2. Content
In order to attract people to my magazine, I have advertised a variety of different things on my
front cover and contents page. On the front cover, I have presented very few sell lines because I
didn’t want there to be too much content revealed, so the reader feels they are in for a surprise
and feel like they need to read on to find out. I also chose the articles that I thought would be
the most popular and important to the readers as R&B listeners. This would instantly make them
become engaged and intrigued to read on. I also advertised winning tickets to a concert to see
one of the most famous artists in R&B. This would attract more readers and would also reiterate
the fact that it is an R&B magazine, as R&B concerts always meet very high expectations. It could
also be seen as a reward for buying the magazine. My contents page had a small description to
go with the subheading, as this would give the reader knowledge about that certain article.
Having a small description creates suspense for the reader as they would want to find out more
and then would refer to the article.
3. Images
The images that I have used are all images that fit in with the style
of magazine and also the genre of R&B. The style that they have fit
in with the genre of R&B and would address the audience I aim to
attract. I am confident that the style of my images will orchestrate
what type of magazine I am aiming to release in order to attract my
audience. My images also make my magazine stand out and
become noticeable to people. My images also make eye contact
with the reader, confirming direct address and creating a personal
relationship with the readers.
4. Font
For the font, I have used a unique font that will attract people to my
magazine. It is very bold, which represents the genre of R&B as that is
what people would associate this particular genre with; bold music. The
font that I have used would definitely fit in with the genre of R&B. The
fact that I have used different but bold fonts, means that the fonts are
still connected in some way. It makes the magazine stand out, when
having different fonts as it makes the magazine look unique in its own
way.
5. Colours
I have used similar colours throughout my front cover, contents page
and double page spread. I have used a dark colour scheme, with hints
of white, red and yellow. This creates a house style that can be used to
attract my target audience as the colours are associated with the
genre of R&B, further reinforcing the genre of R&B. It could also
attract my audience because of the sensible assortment of colours and
wouldn’t look childish with a lot of colours all over the magazine. The
colours also don’t gendercide my magazine, as it implies that it can be
read by both sexes and is not just aimed at one.
6. Layout
The layout attracts the audience as it is set out in an organised yet
unique way, compared to other magazines. It still meets the typical
codes and conventions. The main image on the front cover of my
magazine would instantly attract and engage my audience as it shows
who the main article is based around. The text is positioned very
neatly around the image but in a way where it doesn’t cover the
image so you are still able to see the main image’s eyes. The way
everything is laid out, shows the reader how organised the magazine
is.
7. Language
The language that I use can be associated with the genre of R&B. This
would make the audience feel that it is directed at them. It attracts them
because it may make them feel more engaged with the music they love.
My target audience would be attracted to my magazine because of the
terminology and they would know what genre of music it is. The way that
the language has been used could easily grab the readers attention and
attract them to the magazine. It is written in a way which would be
suitable for any age group. It wouldn’t be too childish so people know it
would be appropriate for both teenagers and young adults.
8. Conclusion
I produced a series of questions to ask my potential target audience. These
helped me to determine what I was going to include in my magazine and what I
wasn’t. It helped me to improve my magazine to attract and address my target
audience. My target audience said my magazine could be read by teenagers and
young adults. This shows that I was successful in attracting my chosen target
audience. I also did audience research before I planned my magazine which
helped me to produce the best magazine for my target audience.
Overall, I think I attracted and addressed my target audience very well and
followed the typical codes and conventions. The results of my survey were
positive and judging by my feedback, my magazine would sell well and do well
on the market.
