2. I attracted my target
demographic by using the
conventions of music magazines
in order to give information
about their interests. For
example I made sure that all of
the cover lines and feature
stories link to popular bands for
the rock/ alternative music
genre.
I included information about
upcoming gigs and tour to appeal
to fans of certain artists. I also
included exclusive interviews to
attract my target audience as they
feel as if they are getting a special
insight into their favourite artists.
I used the
research that I
underwent when
investigating my
audience in order
to add content
that would attract
people to the
front cover of my
magazine.
3. All of my pages were very easy to follow and professional which would appeal to
my target audience. The different aspects that I have included such as plugs
and cover lines are common conventions of magazines, this therefore means it
would fit well into its genre and would appeal to people as they are familiar to
it. All of the content that I chose to include was carefully selected to make sure
that it was relevant and also that it would be suitable for the interests of my
demographic. I made sure that I followed a consistent layout and house style in
order for my magazine to look professional and interesting.
4. I used informal language to address my audience as
it is the best way to grab their attention. If I talk in
a chatting language then they can relate to the
magazine and can understand it better than if it was
very formal. Also it creates a symbiotic relationship
between the audience and my magazine making the
text more interesting and making them more likely
to want to read it.
I used some forms of slang in the magazine to
make the text seem recognisable to the audience.
By adding slang it can make my target audience
want to read it as they may think that a cool hip
person has written it. I also used explanation
marks to make it even more informal and to
address the audience in a different way to grab
their attention.
In the main cover line I used the word ‘you’
and underlined it, this would attract my
target audience as the use of direct address
would make the audience feel as if the
magazine is talking directly to them and
therefore influence them to read it.
5. All of the images I used, I carefully staged in order to engage the target audience.
The dominant images used on the front cover and on the contents page are used to
give an indication of what the magazine could be about. The front cover makes use
of the iconography of the rock genre, through the use of mise-en-scene. One aspect
of mise-en-scene that is used in the photos is the use of props. All of the photos that
are used include a musical instruments for example a guitar; this acts as a signifier
not only for the genre of music but also connotes how passionate the artists are and
how dedicated they are to their music.
6. Whilst creating my magazine, I tried to keep the focus of the magazine unisex throughout
so that I attracted the attention of both male and female and in order to create a wider
niche audience. I used neutral colours so that my audience do not get the impression that
it is aimed at a specific gender, also so that it matched the iconography of rock. I thought
very carefully about the models that I used in my magazine and decided to use 3 teenage
boys. This is the same age as the target audience which would therefore mean that the
target demographic are most likely to be able to relate to them. Also by using teenage
boys it would create 3 figures that boys can inspire to be like and it would attract female
attention as they may find the band members attractive.
7. In order to fully attract my audience I would have to carefully thing about my method of distribution in order
to make sure I was placing it in the right places where it would be noticed by my target demographic. I would
have to place it in places that link to my audience interests; for example I know that my readers would be at
lots of gigs and concerts of the artists included in my magazine. If posters and advertisements of my magazine
were on show at certain gig venues people would notice it and want to know more about my magazine,
therefore it would be very beneficial for my magazine to be seen there. Also I would place advertisement on
streets so that it can be seen by a mass audience. I would place the advertisement in places like Camden as
this is a very indie/rock music location.
