3. Manipulation of front cover
I decided to manipulate the main image for
my front cover, because it makes my
magazine look more professional. I decided to
take out the background of the image. To do
this, I used Photoshop to add a mask on to
the image. Then I used the brush tool to
makes the background white, and give it a
smooth edge. Additionally, I added text onto
the image such as coverlines, top strip, pugs
and other valuable information a magazine
needs to have. Additionally, I decided to
change the levels and the contrast of the
image; this is so that it makes the model look
less yellow, and it makes it seem more
professional. I did this by changing the
contrast and the brightness.
5. By comparing my front cover to a pre-existing one I
can see that there are a lot of similarities. From
comparing the text between the two front covers, I
can see that we have both used similar types of fonts,
which stand out to the reader. Additionally, I believe
that both my magazine and the pre - existing one
have used similar amounts of texts and coverlines,
which is easy for the reader to understand. Our
coverlines are placed all around the place and not
just in one section. Additionally, there is a continued
colour scheme on both pages. We have both included
a strap line, which condenses the information for the
reader and enables them to see what is going on.
7. Manipulation of contents
page
I further decided to manipulate the images
on my contents page. For the picture of the
model in the bottom right hand corner, I
used the quick selection tool, to crop out
the orange background behind him; this
helps him stand out from the page and
also blend in with the magazine. I added a
border to the main image of a group, this is
because it follow the codes and
conventions of a stereotypical music
magazine. For the picture of Scarlett, I
again added a mask and then used the
brush tool to remove the background,
leaving a smooth finish.
9. By comparing my contents page to a pre - existing
one we can see that the amount of text here differs.
This is because for the construction of ‘POPTASTIC!’
I have included more information about what will be
included in the magazine rather than have more
pictures. However, comparing this to the pre - existing
magazine, they have include more images than text.
Both magazines include pull quotes, to grab the
readers attention and persuade them to read that
certain article. We have both included an editorial
letter to inform the reader, what we think of the
magazine; however I included less information in
mine.
11. Manipulation of double page
spread
For my double page spread I
manipulated the image. I again used
a mask in the bottom right hand
corner to remove the background. I
also used the quick selection tool to
remove any other bits of the image. I
believe that the mask and brush tool
is good to use because it gives the
image a much more smoother and
professional look.
13. By comparing my double page spread to a pre -
existing one we can see that the amount of text used
on both pages is very similar. Both pages have
included a pull quote to grab the readers attention
and also encourage them to read the magazine. The
layout for both DPS’s is similar as one page is for just
an image of the artist and the other page includes the
actual article and information of the person who is
being interviewed.
