2. Logo Attempt One
• I made my first attempt of a production company logo using the
computer program 'LiveType'. I had no previous experience with the
program and I found it difficult to use at first.
• Before making the first edit of my production logo I had to decide on
the following things.
1. What would my production company be called?
2. Would my production company logo include the whole of the
company name?
3. What font design/colours would be appropriate and would they fit
the conventions of a production company's logo who focuses
mainly on horror films?
3. Logo Attempt One
• The font that I chose was of a gothic style. This was very appropriate for
my production company as horror films and gothic style are often
associated with each other.
• The purple colour of the font was relatively dark but I feel that in order to
improve the effectiveness of the logo, the colour needed to be changed to
red. We often associate red with blood, which is used in horror films a lot.
• I feel that the white background should be changed to black. Black is the
colour that horror films usually fade to in order to create fear or suspense.
• As I had little experience with LiveType, I feel that I should get to know the
program more and learn new features. This will allow me to be able to
make a more professional production company logo which will be as
effective as the logos created by companies such as 'Hammer Films'.
4. Logo Attempt Two
• This production company logo was created after I had more experience with
the program LiveType. I knew how to create the logo in the correct format as
well as how to change fonts, colours and animations.
• To help with the continuity of the film opening, I decided to use the same font
for my logo as the font for the titles of the film. I felt that this created a
professional image for the logo whilst also helping the film to run as smooth
as possible.
• Having a black background created a dark and mysterious edge to the logo
and coincided well with the fade to blacks throughout the film opening.
• Using red and white uppercase font worked well in the logo. Similarly, the
red and white uppercase font of 'Red Hour Films' logo, a production
company who produced horror film 'The Ruins' was effective. Uppercase
font is also a key characteristic of Hammer Films logo.

6. Hammer Films
• Hammer Films are a well known production company who
launched in the United Kingdom in 1934. They are most
famous for their gothic horrors featuring monsters, gore and
ghosts.
• The production company's logo features a distinct legible
font in uppercase letters. The letters are filled with well
known characters from previous films that they have
produced. Doing this allows the viewer to be able to
associate renowned characters with their company. After
seeing the eminent characters pass by, the writing wipes to
a deep red colour. This obviously symbolises blood, a key
convention of most horror films.
