2. Synergy: The simultaneous release of two or more products
that will boost the sale of/promote each other. Big
companies often use synergy as different elements of the
company work together to promote products across different
media.
The products have a mutually beneficial relationship – they
are symbiotic.
Conglomerates (ie.Sony) benefit from synergy the most as
they own lots of different companies.
3. Cross media convergence
The combining of two or more different forms of media
Convergence can happen in production, distribution and
exhibition.
All convergence is synergy but not all synergy is convergence.
4. Synergy in The Inbetweeners
A soundtrack was released featuring the songs played
throughout the film. This enabled people who watched the
film to buy the soundtrack featuring songs from iconic parts
of the film. 8 of the songs featured in the soundtrack were
only able for purchase on the album. This means if someone
wanted to buy one of the songs they would have to buy them
all.
As we know, the film stars four characters who have just left
sixth form. A yearbook was released in shops for fans to buy.
5. Cross Media Convergence
within Disney
Disney use a variety of accounts across the social media
platform. This allows the company to promote their products
and therefore make a profit whilst giving the given social
media site traffic. This traffic will then allow companies such
as Facebook to be able to sell advertising.
The company work hard at providing their consumers with
interesting, exclusive information which they would not be
able to find elsewhere.
