Procedures
I am going to greet my students and make a lovely comment about what a pleasure it is
to share classes together.
“Hello everyone!!! how are you today? It is a pleasure to meet you.”
This week we will start working with a new theme, are you eager to learn? Well, let's
see, I want you to tell me about the jobs and professions you know in English.
“Guys, we are going to watch a video about six people who tell us about their
professions. They are Yvonne, Stacey, Andy, Anya, Emer and Dan. They tell us a little
about their work. What you are going to do is to watch it, and you will find the profession
of each one. For this reason, I am going to write the names and occupations on the
blackboard, and you must order them in order of appearance and place their profession.
The students will have the list of people, the professions and they will have to find the
correct ones and order them correctly, for this they will listen to the audio three times
and then we will correct the activity on the blackboard.
Audio: What is your job? https://youtu.be/0x1WRY4fvz4?si=YPVsgrVSt2V8jceW
YVONNE – DAN- EMER- STACEY- ANDY -ANYA
SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTOR- LAWYER- WAITRESS- NURSE-
JOURNALIST- MARKETING
“Excellent children!! Now, we are going to work on some sentences from the previous
video. We are going to see how to form sentences according to the subject and the
profession.”
This activity will indicate how to put together a sentence considering subjects, definite
articles, verb to be and profession”.
Yvonne: “I´m a nurse “
Stacey: “I´m a lawyer”
Anya: “I´m a snowboard instructor”
Emer: “I´m a waitress”
3. Observing the sentences, we must first consider the subject, then the verb “to be” and
then the article. For this it is very important to remember:
According to the subject it will be the verb to be:
is: she, he, it
are: you, they, we
am: I
according to the letter with which the occupation or profession begins, the
article will be:
words beginning with a vowel: “an”
words beginning with a consonant: “a”
So, if we change the subject, the verb to be changes and if we change the profession,
the article can change. For example:
I am a nurse.
She is a nurse.
She is an architect.
They are architects (aquí eliminamos “an” porque hablamos en plural)
Activity 1:
“Great guys, now that we understand the sentences, we are going to have a break
enjoying this word search with different jobs. “
4. This activity consists of three parts: search for words and search the dictionary or word
reference app for the words (jobs) they do not know. Finally, they will make different
sentences with the jobs, adding subjects, articles, and verb to be.
For example: John is a judge.
Activity 2:
“We are going to continue working on different jobs, for this we are going to read the
little sentences that serve as clues and describe different jobs.”
Here the students will practise reading and observing through a text.
Students will need to look up unknown words and create a glossary.
pilot / waiter / English teacher / post man / baker /
farmer / police officer / firefighter / taxi driver / doctor /
chef / astronaut / flight attendant / barber / student
Before finishing today's class, I will leave you a task: you must look for five images of
different jobs or professions in the newspaper or magazines, and you will make
sentences like the ones that I show you in class.
