This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. ASSIGNMENT I: ONLINE TEACHING
Collaborative Work
DEADLINE: August 21, 2020
Here are the instructions:
This assignment is about designing activities to be shared with
students in this peculiar context. You should include all resources
you are planning to use (visual aids, audiovisual materials, etc), just
as you´ve seen in the examples above.
You should create two sets of activities (week 3 and week 4),
so as to finish this Didactic Unit on Describing People. As well as
this, you are asked to outline a synchronous lesson of about 40
minutes, describing the different stages of such a meeting. This
would be closer to our regular lesson plans…
Week 3 → Describing people
3. Activity 1
Watch this video and try to imitate the pronunciation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEDy0wGaXJY
Now, let’s play a game! Match the words, to form the correct
sentence. Then, make a draw for each description, and imagine
hairstyles for each person.
In our next Zoom meeting we will share your drawings!
Let's have fun!

ke-the-sentences/people-and-appearance
Activity 2
Download this image, match each
description with the correct
number. Not everybody has a
description, choose three and
describe them. Write the
description in your notebooks, we
will share it in our Zoom meeting.
WEEK 4
Activity 1
4. Create your own character. Choose different images of people from
newspapers, magazines, photos, etc. Then, cut different parts of
their bodies, and match them as you want. You can play with your
imagination!
Then record a very short video describing your character.
Remember to mention all the vocabulary learnt.
Finally you will upload your video to our Google Classroom.
Activity 2
Look on the internet for two famous people. One woman and one
man. Singers, sport players, actors, cartoons, etc. Describe them in
your notebook. We will work with them in our next zoom meeting.
For example:
‘’Harry Potter is tall and slim. He has got dark short hair. He
wears glasses. He is a magician. ‘’

7. ROUTINE (3’)
First, we will make sure every student is online before we start. While we wait, we will greet
them: Hello guys! ‘How are you? Let’s wait a couple of minutes for everybody. We also need
to make sure the connection is stable - Can you hear me? Ok! Great. Let 's begin.
WARM- UP AND PRESENTATION (5’)
We will ask them if they could access the activities. ‘’Did you guys like the game?’’ Great!
Fantastic. Remember, in activity 2 from week 3 you were asked to describe three of the
characters who didn’t have a description. ‘’Any volunteer?’’ - We will hear some description
and give feedback such as ‘’ Amazing!’’ ‘’You did very good!’’ - By doing this, we will check
that students have learnt what they needed before we move on to the next activity.
In this video call, we will play two games. ‘’Who is ready for a game?!’’ For the first one, we
will use the description of famous people you had to do as your last homework. ‘’Please, can
you take your notebooks out? The first game is called ‘’Guess who’’ and the second one is
called ‘’Listen and draw’’.
DEVELOPMENT (PRACTICE and PRODUCTION) (20’)
We will ask students to take a look at their famous character. ‘’Great. Do you all have a
famous character?! Please, don’t say it out loud.’’ We will explain how the game is going to
work: We have to make questions in order to guess. For example: You should ask ‘’Is it a
boy or a girl?’’ ‘’Is he/she tall’’? ‘’Is he/she fat?’’ until we all finalize who the character is.
The one who guesses it first, will be asked next. The aim of this activity is to practice
everything we have learnt for the past few weeks. Moreover, students will practice ‘’to be’’
in every form as well as ‘’have got’’- The teachers will scaffold them when they struggle
with the questions. Some students might make some mistakes at the beginning: ‘’Have
glasses?’’ to which the teacher will reply ‘’HAS HE got glasses?’’ Every student should
participate and use their famous character. This game will last about 15 minutes.
Well now, let's play the second game! You will use your imagination and creativity for this
activity, are you guys ready? Take out your pencils first. For this game, the teachers will have
a bag with all the vocabulary learnt during the last four weeks, written and cut beforehand.
Who knows what this is? Yes! It 's a bag! Can you guess what I have inside the bag? There
are a lot of papers! Let's read them all together! Excellent! Do you remember what all these
8. words mean? Before we start the game, we will make sure students know the meaning of
every word so they can make the drawing. Ok, now we will check if you really remember
them with a funny game!
We will randomly choose three words, and you will have to memorize them. This time,
nobody can't say anything. ‘’Please, mute your microphones and put your hands in the air,
nobody can’t take notes until the teacher says so’’ This will help to engage with their
attention. The one who says the meaning of the words or repeats them, loses. Then, we will
give you only one minute to create a draw using the three words that we previously
mentioned. For example: “Ponytail, Moustache, Tall”. ‘’You are expected to create an
individual using those characteristics. After one minute, you will show your drawings on cam
at the same time. We really love drawing, so We will participate too.’’ If anybody or even us,
has made any mistake on their drawing, don´t worry! We will correct mistakes all together!
The teachers will commit mistakes on purpose to make students recognize the errors on their
drawings
CLOSURE (3’)
Since both games are very complete when it comes to vocabulary and structure, we will use
most of our Zoom meeting playing them. In the last two or three minutes of class we will ask
them what they think of the activities, “Do you have any doubt with regard to all we have
learnt?” “What was your favourite part of this meeting?” “Did you dislike any moment
during this zoom?” ‘’Did you have any issue accessing the game?’’ We hope you have
enjoyed this meeting as well as we did. See you in our next meeting! Take care, goodbye!
