Assure Method Model
Classroom Situation: Teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students: 11 girls and 9
boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
A: Analyze learner
The students are 4th graders who are obviously diverse, and they have little to no behavior or learning
disabilities.
S: State Objectives
The class will recite all of the major holidays (Muslim, Jewish, African American, and Christian) and their
traditions by various activities which include PowerPoint presentations, student presentations, movies,
and graphic organizers by the end of the week with 100% accuracy.
A: The class of 4th graders
B: The learner will recite all of the major holidays and their traditions which pertain to the students in
class.
C: It will be done by various activities such as PowerPoint presentations (by the instructor), movies,
graphic organizers, and presentations (done by students and then given to the class – pictures, essays,
etc.).
D: The performance will need to be 100% accurate by the end of the week.
S: Select methods, media, & material
-

-

For the PowerPoint presentation, will need: computer, projector
For the student presentations will need: computers, projectors, pencils, paper, various art
supplies (as needed for whatever student needs to do with presentation since it is their own
discretion)
For the movie will need: dvd (?), computer, projector
For the graphic organizers will need: handout provided by teacher OR student has option to
create their own graphic organizer

U: Utilize Media & material
-

-

For the PowerPoint presentation: the instructor (me) will organize and create a brief slideshow
which contains information on all of the holidays and their traditions as an introduction to the
assignments of the students
For the student presentations: the instructor will give the children access to computers, paper,
pencils, art supplies, etc., for them to come up with their own presentation on the holiday that
pertains to them to later share with the class.
-

For the movie: the teacher will supply YouTube clips or full length movies (if possible) to show to
the students each holiday
For the graphic organizers: after the students have been informed with all of the holidays and
their traditions, the teacher will provide them with a graphic organizer to fill in with their
knowledge and the information of each holiday

R: Require learner participation
For any work the student has to do to be presented or given to the teacher – the graphic organizers and
presentations – they are allowed to work in groups and help each other. Otherwise, the students are
expected to give 100% attention and participate when asked or needed.
E: Evaluate and revise
Students will be asked to tell one similarity and one difference that they learned after all of the
presentations. Students will do this this with 100% accuracy by the end of the lesson.
