Mr. Lucas has a class of 25 twelfth grade students that will be studying The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien over the course of a week. Through class discussions, readings, viewing a film adaptation, and student group presentations, the objective is for 90% of students to understand all aspects of The Hobbit. Each day will involve popcorn reading activities, discussions, and viewing the 1977 animated film adaptation. Student groups will present on the book on Thursday and Friday to demonstrate their competency.
2. My Students
My twelfth grade class has twenty-five
students, ten girls and fifteen boys. They are in
their final semester of their Senior year in high
school.
3. Objectives
By the end of one week and with a 90%
accuracy, my students will know all there is to
know about The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. They
will achieve this and show their competency
through the use of class discussions, class
readings, watching a film, and group
presentations.
4. Day by Day
Monday - I will start the week with a popcorn
reading activity followed by a class discussion
on what we read.
Tuesday - I will continue with popcorn reading
and class discussion.
Wednesday - I will show them the 1977
animated Hobbit cartoon.
5. Day by Day (continued)
Thursday - Group Presentations
Friday - Group Presentations
6. Use of Technology
The main uses of technology will come from
watching the film I have chosen to show my
class and their group presentations, which will
be done on Powerpoint and shown in front of
the rest of the class via projector.
