What I Would Never Have Believed That Concepts From Economics
Prior to writing this, I would never have believed that concepts from economics would have fit into my decisions in course selections. But, now
looking at the individual concepts and what they really entail, it makes perfect sense.
As a sophomore picking out classes, I had free choice whether to enter the CP course, the Honors course or the AP course. The only reason why I
was able to choose between these three courses was because of my grades. This is similar to the concept of "barriers to entry" in economics; the students
are the new firms, the courses are the industries, and the different grades are the actual barrier into the courses. During sophomore year, I maintained an
average grade in the honors history course of higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, some of the benefits included more credit, a more interesting topic, and learning more. On the other hand, the costs included more time
dedicated, a harder course, and the AP test. These costs were of a lesser importance than the benefits were, plus, the AP test could be beneficial. By
using this concept, I determined that taking the AP course did benefit me more in the long run than taking the honors course. One of the major
benefits that I looked at was whether taking this course would help benefit me in the long run. I used the concept of "human capital", thinking that
with this course and my other "collective" knowledge that I would gather from other classes, I was preparing myself to be a well–rounded student and
so possibly more successful in the future. In taking the AP course, I would learn a slightly different topic than the Honors or CP classes, and at a
higher level of difficulty. I would definitely learn the topic and broaden my knowledge, but I would also learn more skills, like managing time
wisely and different studying skills for a harder course. On the other hand, the costs of taking the AP course was like the concept of "opportunity
cost", the things I had to give up in order to take the course. For one, I would have to give up taking an easier course, and perhaps a better grade, if I
opted to take the AP course. I would also have to give up more of my time to prepare for the course, hence eliminating

Police Body Cameras Should Reduce Police Misconduct
The idea of using the hook and eye method to achieve coherence and connect thoughts between sentences and paragraphs makes perfect sense.
However, I had never put much thought into the method used to accomplish this. As I poured through articles, looking at the different types of
research methods used, I could not help but notice the hook and eye connections. I also wondered if they the author was familiar with the hook and
eye concept, or if this is a common, natural way of writing. I also know that I need more time using and identifying the main connections (phrases or
words).
I selected an article about police body cameras. The article cited several studies, as well as the authors' ideas and thoughts. The article, titled Police
Body Cameras, is part of the CATO Institute's National Police Misconduct Reporting Project, and prepared by Matthew Feeney in 2015. The theme
throughout the article is that the use of body cameras will reduce police misconduct. Although we all hope this is the case, we must also look at the
other issues involved with the wearing of body cameras. In an effort to gain citizen buy–in and obtain their opinions, they conducted surveys.
Interestingly enough, most people did not want the officers to record them, unless it was during an enforcement encounter, such as a traffic stop or
arrest situation.
In looking at the effects body camera had in relation to police behavior, they cited a study from Rialto, California. They conducted the study over a

An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath
An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of
Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted in devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP),
located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley, 2012). AP is an oxidizer that when combined with
aluminum makes the base for solid–state rocket fuel (Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, all space exploration by
NASA was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite (Lilley, 2012). The disaster was caused by repair work
done after high winds damaged the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
4). Each of these materials is makes AP act as a class–A explosive as explained in Appendix B. Also, within many buildings at the PEPCON facility,
dust control was either minimal or nonexistent, while cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert & Alvares, 2003, p.7). This
led to massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated the situation further once the fire started (Lambert & Alvares, 2003,
p.7). The incredibly risky storage practices of this powerful oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen.
The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple buildings, the most important of which to this incident is the
batch–drying building located in the southwest portion of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley, n.d., p. 22). The batch
dryer was used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing, however, this facility was not suitable for this work due to its construction. The
building was constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up on the fiberglass and accelerated the
fire out of control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk was known by PEPCON as there had been previous fires in this building, however
nothing was done to deter future fires (Case

Keeping Cool On The Hot Seat Analysis
Chapters eighteen through thirty–six in Keeping Cool on the Hot Seat by author Judith Hoffman discusses preparing for and recovering from the
press. Getting the correct informational statements out to the media in a timely and accurate fashion is important to any Crisis Management Team;
and being prepared for any forum of public speaking is vital as one only gets one chance to make a first impression. In order to begin preparation, it is
recommended by Hoffman to begin with brainstorming to come up with the any and all possible questions that the press corps could possibly ask.
Having the answers to questions goes a lot further with one's credibility than the answer "I don't know." Some of the methods of brainstorming can
include: historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Answer the question: "use the advice provided earlier to formulate a clear, concise, positive answer, with a quotable sound bite". (Hoffman 2011, 145).
And Make your point – bridging to a 'must air' comment/message. Every question posed can provide the spokesperson with an opportunity to reinforce
the major points. Some of the other themes that the author points out include, if it is a false assertion, correct it; confusing questions should be
clarified, but be careful not to keep asking for a question to be restated, this will make the spokesperson look incompetent. Don't let the reporter put
your words into another meaning – "so what you are saying..." is a common pitfall to avoid. The reporter is never 'off the record' – when a journalist
gets a hold of a piece of information that could stimulate the general public, suddenly the record was never off in the first place. Going back to the ten
'Cs', calm is one of the most important when talking with the press. Nothing grabs headlines like Donald Trump yelling at a Hispanic reporter to get

Analysis Of ' Perseverance ' By Maya Angelou
Perseverance "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you know
who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it" (Maya Angelou). In all the nonfiction books read in class perseverance is the
main concept in each story. The dictionary defines perseverance as "continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or
opposition : the action or condition or an instance of persevering". In terms of usage, perseverance is a noun. Common synonyms for perseverance
include "persistence" and "steadfastness". The antonyms of perseverance is giving up and not trying. This is important because perseverance is having

Everyday Melba was taunted, spit on, yelled at, and had her heels walked on but persevered through it all and never gave up. Malala Yousafzai
persevered everyday to try to get an equal education. Malala never gave up trying to get an equal education and wanted to be treated no different
because she was a girl. Coach Thomas known as Ed demonstrated perseverance towards his family, friends, and his AP football team. Ed always
pushed the boys to their best ability and never treated anyone negatively. He not only was a coach he was a role model, inspiration, and a leader to
the entire community. Each individual wanted to make an impact on everyone 's life. Nonfiction literature represents the understanding of
perseverance and connects to influencing readers by doing anything, no matter the difficulty of achieving a certain goal and connects an individual by
behavioral traits and feelings they have. Melba Pattillo Beals in Warriors Don't Cry demonstrates how she never gave up and looked at all the
positives. Nine students including Melba immigrated a school system, but did not get treated well. While the nine students wanted to give up they did
not let anyone stop them and kept going back to school. "A large crowd of jeering, pencil–throwing students hovered around us menacingly. We had no
choice but to go forward"(162). Perseverance is the author's purpose because this demonstrates how the nine students never gave up even as they went

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hand Irons
Hand Iron
Hand irons are appropriate method of fusing where the interlinings could be fused at comparatively at low temperatures and pressures and in relatively
short time period. But only small components can be fused in this system (Fairhurst 2008; Cooklin 2006).
8.1.4.3 Steam Press
Regular steam pressing machines are not chosen for fusing even though some fusibles are produced for use on these machines. The main limitations of
pressing machines concerning fusing are:
Inability to reach the heat levels required by majority of resins
Shape and size of bucks limit size of components that can be fused
Most utility machines are not fitted with programme controls, which means entire process is operator controlled
If the resin is activated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

8.2.6 Types of pressing equipment
Solid surface pressing equipment uses a firm surface to apply pressure while steam and heat mould the fabric, garment or garment parts. Pressure may
be applied through rolling action, gliding action or compression (Holme 1999).
8.2.6.1 Hand Irons
For more than hundreds of years hand irons were heated on coal stoves. These methods were steadily replaced by gas heating. Steam was created by
lightly wetting the area to be pressed or by pressing through a dampened piece of linen. The most frequent but least productive ironing and pressing
equipment is the hand iron, which is suitable for performing a large number of operations in processing with heat and moisture (Holme 1999).
More sophisticated and more productive but less prevalent are ironing presses, which allows a considerable degree of mechanization and automation of
processing with heat and moisture. Fabrics are steamed to eliminate lustrous appearance which develops when ironing and pressing equipment is used.
The two basic types of irons used today

Just as well, the displeasure from the students regarding the third floor itself has very little to do with the quality of the networks. There existed
few complaints with the network's quality by the users. Ekahua software was used to get a technical perspective of the infrastructure. The figure
to the right is a heat map of the library's third floor. The icons spread around the map are the access points of the floor in their locations. It is worth
noting that, toward the end of the map on either side is a collection of APs from the floors below. At the edge of the third floor there is likely less
insolation, allowing the APs from the lower floors to be picked up. Above each of the icons the ESSIDs and their level of security is detailed in black
print. Below, in the purple subscripts are the channels that each AP acts on. There are two ESSIDs on each AP (all running 802.11n standard) out of a
total of four existing networks: rit_guest, rit, ritwpa2, and eduroam. The latter two networks are both WPA2 authenticated while rit and rit_guest both
being open networks for guest usages. While unclear in the figure, each AP possesses one open network and another WPA2 authentication network.
The student body and faculty frequent ritwpa2 network and is likely the most congested of the networks on the floor. The shaded areas indicate the

The Associated Press Vs Fairey Summary
Copyright Report
Copyright is the right to stop other people from copying, publishing or adapting a creatives work without his/her permission. If one were to do so
they must attribute and acknowledge the owner as a reference. Copyright owners also have ownership of moral rights; this is so that people can not
use a piece of work in a way that the owner does not support or believe in such as political or religious means. Many artists run into troubles when
debating about at what point os an original work sufficiently transformed enough to not be an infringement of copyright. This issue became apparent an
American case 'The Associated Press vs. Fairey' which occurred in 2008 and a trial was placed in 2009. There was much debate around whether ... Show

“over 30 Workers Trapped After Chilean Copper Mine...
Knowing your Audience Paper and Communication Release
William Whelchel

When a company needs to pass information to another organization or a group of people it is very important that the company knows their audience. If
the information is regarding a disaster, it is even more important to make sure the company knows their audience. One example of a company needing
to know their audience was the Chilean copper mine in South America.
On Thursday, August 5, 2010, A collapse of one of the shafts in the Chilean copper mine left 33 workers trapped approximately 300 meters
underground. At once, rescue efforts began but just two days later another collapse in the mine halted the efforts of the rescue... Show more content on

Once the families have been informed it is important to let the fellow co–workers know what is happening. Many of the men trapped would have
friends who also work for the company and they would want to know what is happening. By making sure the other employees know about what is
happening, the company can try to keep them from saying too much to news reporters and it will help ease their minds. Once the employees have been
notified, make it clear that all information to the press needs to come from the company. When something is said to an audience that was not properly
prepared for that audience, it could have disastrous results.
Through the press the company will next have to handle the communication on an international level. Because the mine company was global they were
on the world stage. The company owned mines in many other parts of the world, not just in South America. In a situation like this one, rumors began to
fly without much hesitation and although rumor control was important with the company, it is impossible to stop.
Another aspect of communication that was not very publically known was the communication with the investors, owners and stockholders of the
company. It is very important to keep this audience informed with what was going on because if information was withheld then it could potentially
cause a panic. Once in panic mode, the investors could damage the company more by stopping funds, dumping assets and plunge the

Analysis Of The Book Hardball : How Politics Is Played By...
Know the Rules Politician and the author of the book Hardball: How Politics Is Played, Told by One Who Knows the Game Christopher Matthews
is well renowned as a leading figure in explaining the inner workings of American politics. His book Hardball is a nonfiction he wrote about his
experiences in politics and boiled down succeeding as a politician into fourteen maxims. He bases these maxims off of his own real experiences in
politics and others' who have both succeeded and failed. For you do well in the game of politics you should make sure to follow at least these two
maxims: "All Politics is Local" and "Keep your Enemies in Front of You." However, you must be aware that Matthew's maxim "Press is the Enemy"
isn't necessarily true. Remembering "All Politics is Local" is absolutely vital for surviving in politics as it is pleases voters. This maxim means
exactly what it says and that the game of politics must be played locally to succeed on a larger scale. People care most about what is affecting the
things closest to them and by catering to the needs of those who can vote for you, you will get those people to vote for you. It's even possible to win
elections just by being local because people will assume you know the district better and can better serve their needs. That's exactly what worked for
New Jersey Congressman Eddie Patten when he "ran an ad in a local newspaper. It was nothing fancy, just the Manhattan telephone directory with his

Lying Is Unneccessary and It Can Hurt You
Lying that you didn't eat the last cookie from the jar can't compare to the lies that some important people have told. Lying is a crime. Time, money
and care are stolen because liars were able to fill people's heads with false information. It is not fair to the people who believe these unpleasant lies. Yes,
it is but a lie can be disrespectful, hurtful and dangerous. However, what happens when a lie is told and revealed? It is too late to actually tell the
truth. By the time you are about to explain it, everyone is already mad and disappointed at you. What if we turn it all around? What if the superhero
is already there to the save day? No one needs to signal them or cry to let them know that there is a crisis. The fact is the superhero exists, he's
always going to be locked up inside you and it's called the truth. The truth can be told right after an incident and there's no point for the villainous lie to
appear.
Lying can ruin careers, as it did to Ben Johnson in 1988. Ben was born in Falmouth, Jamaica on December 30th 1961. He immigrated to Canada
when he was 15 years old. Ben joined the Scarborough Optimists Track & Field Club, where he met Coach Charlie Francis. Coach Francis was a
Canadian 100m sprint champion. At the 1982 Commonwealth Games, Ben won two silver medals, his first international success. He was established

The Debate Over Unauthorized Use Of A Person's Art Work
In contemporary photography a major issue has been debate over unauthorized use of a person's art work to create something new. Appropriation is
the most frequently used word whenever a body of work comes into question. Exploring deeper into this phrase used to justifying stealing, may
sound simple on the surface, but appropriation has been a hot topic for many legal battles that can favor either side. Photographers and other artist are
constantly in and out of court, fighting that their works is being infringed, while others argue originality. What guideline is there to protect someone
from their being considered stolen? Exploring the laws behind appropriation and plagiarism, as well some photographer that fought on both sides
may give a better idea of on how one can protect them. The first step to understanding the controversy appropriation is to know the definition, The
MOCA in Los Angeles states, "To appropriate is to borrow. Appropriation is the practice of creating a new work by taking a pre
–existing image from
another context–art history, advertising, the media–and combining that appropriated image with new ones. Or, a well–known artwork by someone else
may be represented as the appropriator's own. Such borrowings can be regarded as the two–dimensional equivalent of the found object. But instead of,
say, incorporating that "found" image into a new collage, the postmodern appropriator redraws, repaints, or rephotographs it." This definition in itself

Shepard Fairey, The Artist Behind The Barack Obama...
Shepard Fairey, the artist behind the Barack Obama presidential election "Hope" poster, chose a photograph as an aid to achieving an ideal pose, that
was taken by an Associated Press, AP, photographer, Mannie Garcia. This led to a controversy as Fairey used an image he did not own for his
personal artwork. This leads to the question of whether illustrators and artists should be allowed to use photographs under the copyright "Fair Use"
clause without having to ask permission or pay royalties to the original artist or copyright holder.
Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary graphic designer, street artist, illustrator and founder of the OBEY Clothing company. In 1988 he
graduated from Idyllwild Arts Academy in Palm Springs, California. Fairey realized his interest in art while working at a skateboard shop where he
proceeded to post his homemade stickers. From there, he moved into the street art culture and graffiti movement where he became interested in
stencils. While receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISDI), Fairey became known for his "Andre the Giant
Has a Posse" sticker campaign for OBEY. However, his fame sprouted during the 2008 U.S. presidential election when he created Barack Obama's
"Hope" poster, which sparked controversy. Some of his other works which combine elements of graffiti, pop art, business art, and Marxist Theory have

Article Analysis: “Environment Group Aims to Stop Work on...
In his article "Environment Group Aims to Stop Work on Power Plant", Tom Parsons reports on two unnamed environmental groups who are asking
the Arkansas Supreme Court to order that all work on a new power plant cease until further environmental studies have been completed. This article is
written in the inverted pyramid style (nice use of a related term). This style presents the most important information first, drawing readers to the
headlines and opening paragraphs, and also allowing the editors to remove content from the bottom of articles in order to meet the space requirements
of print media. In the power plant article, all of the most basic facts are presented in the first paragraph. "Two environmental groups have asked a federal

This is not interpretive journalism (again, nice use of a term). The reader is left with no indication of how the reporter feels about the protesters or
the power plant, and that is the intent. In this style of writing, the goal of the writer is not to explain the issue to the reader or to place the issues
within context. The goal is only to present the information in a clear and concise manner that is nearly scientific. The reader gains knowledge of what
is happening regarding the power plant, and why the environmental groups are opposed to the construction, as well as what has happened in the recent
past regarding this situation. The reader also learns what the owner of the plant believes the issues are, and how they've dealt with the obstacles to this
point. There is no commentary offered, no emphasis added to the quotes that are printed. Much of modern reporting tends towards interpretive
journalism, in which the writer attempts to explain what is happening, and place the events into context socially or historically. However, it is fitting
that this is a story from the Associated Press wire (great point, often what comes across the AP will be the basis for a story developed by a news
outlet where they take facts and turn them into a story they want. Nice observation). As is common, this style of writing is formulaic and able to be
transmitted quickly and efficiently. According to the text, the inverted pyramid was created so that civil war

Richard Jewell Case
Often, the media is very quick to jump on a story as they want to be the "very first" to bring the news story since they compete with other news
outlets. Add the issues of law enforcement sources who leak information to news sources, and you have the potential of someone being found guilty
of public opinion. As was seen in the case of Richard Jewell, a man who acted heroically was scrutinized and ridiculed by the media all because law
enforcement wanted to question Jewell further. Even though Richard Jewell was questioned and his rights were read to him, he was at no time
arrested or detained, and it seems there never existed any probable cause for law enforcement to do so. However, the media painted Jewell as the

In the years to follow, the media has been quick to provide information and at times that information has been incorrect and at the cost of the
people they have mistaking identified. After the Boston Marathon Bombing, two men dubbed the "bag men" by news reports were identified as
possible suspects even though they had nothing to do with the attacks (Sack, 2013). As of recently in the Phoenix metro area, the local freeways
have been facing a series of random shootings. The Arizona Department of Public Safety has already call the unknown suspect a domestic terrorist
even though the person or persons are not known nor are their motivations. A few days ago, every news agency was reporting a major break in the
case and reporting an arrest in the freeway shootings. The man accused had his name and picture placed on many news outlets as being the freeway
shooter. However, the AZ Department of Public Safety is only charging the man with a marijuana charge. AZ DPS has also publicly announced that
the man is not their primary suspect and that they still believe the actual shooter is still at large. It is possible that the man is connected, and criminal
charges related to the shootings will occur. However, it is also possible that this man has falsely been painted as the serial freeway shooter and a

Sports Journalism
For my career research paper I have chosen to delve into the world of the sportswriter, and take a closer look at what that occupation may hold for
myself. I have chosen to research this form of journalism because I consider myself to be a sports fanatic, and would very much enjoy spending
the rest of my working days writing about the conditions in the world of sports. During the last year or so I have taken a period of time everyday to

Writers are found in their office in the morning, and they have afternoons off unless there is a game or interview that they are supposed to cover.
Nights are spent covering an event or interview and then writing the article for it afterwards that night (Heitzman 44). Sports journalism can be a
difficult occupation at times, but it can also be very rewarding. To help cover games better writers get tickets for excellent seats at all events they are
assigned to, they meet with sports stars and coaches (if they are not a writer in a small town newspaper), and sometimes you travel abroad to cover
events (Heitzman 44).
A sportswriter in a small town newspaper would be one of two employees in the sports section. The other employee is the editor. The small town

The First Real Newspaper, Relation, And Politics
The first real newspaper, Relation, was printed in 1605 in Strasbourg. The first French paper was published in 1632. The first regularly published
English newspaper appeared in London in 1622. They were owner–operated, and were largely autonomous, although risky because talking about
royalty and politics was illegal.
Most early newspapers were short–lived. Printing and paper were expensive and relatively few people could read. Journalism was also a risky business,
as those in power did not welcome criticism or scrutiny.
The late 18th century saw an important shift in European societies, namely the formation of a group known as 'the public'. Urban life had to develop
sufficiently for strangers to be regularly thrown into contact with one another. Common interests began to be widely shared among people otherwise
not linked by family, religion, or other established categories of social life. A rising bourgeois class came out from under exclusive royal control,
bringing with them leisure time, education, and financial means. It signalled a power shift, both financial and political.
In 1729 Benjamin Franklin, then owner–editor of the Pennsylvania Gazzette, pioneered the idea of paid newspaper advertising. He also put in place a
policy of editorial impartiality, clearly articulated in an editorial column in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1731, voicing sentiments familiar to journalists
of the digital area: "If all Printers were determin'd not to print any thing till they were

Weymouth Steel Corporation
WEYMOUTH STEEL CORPORATION
Weymouth Steel Corporation is currently in the sort of dilemma which may turn into a disaster for the company. However, given the situation if the
top management is able to inspire its employees (who survive this downsizing) with a vision and hope for the rejuvenation of the company; this
dilemma can easily become a pivotal time for its success. Once the bad news is broken and the downsizing process starts, stress is inevitable; for

news will not only be ineffective in its transfer of information, but will also fail in embedding the new vision of the company into ... Show more content

A press conference should be arranged no more than a day after the conference with the employees (to avoid rumors) and some members of the top
management (example the CFO and General Manager) should attend the meeting. Mr. Weymouth must not attend this meeting in order to leave room
for strategic changes in comments in the future.
The person attending the press conference should be economical with the truth and avoid any figurative view of the company's present situation. The
downsizing must be covered by the new salary scale and benefits being offered to the employees and this time it should be portrayed as a turning point
in the history of Weymouth Steel Corporation. Expected questions from the reporters must be prepared in advance before this conference in a
brainstorming session of the top management.
3.A new vision to the survivors
Once the downsizing is complete it is time for Weymouth to energize his company with a fresh vision, inspiration and motivation. Another general
conference of the remaining salaried employees must be called where again Mr. Weymouth should head the meeting. Here the main focus should be to
remove the ill feelings of employees against the company and to convince them that the company is still a workable organization which cannot work
without their support.
Here they must mention the new salaries and all sorts of benefits that the company has added for its employees. Using these Mr. Weymouth should try

I grew up and lived out my childhood in Sioux City, IA. I am a first–generation American from two Mexican parents who immigrated to this great
country. My mother is a full–time housekeeper at a hotel in the state over and my dad is a full–time carpenter. I would describe myself as blessed as I
have never had to feel the pain of hunger. Even though I do have less than my friends I make up for it with work ethic. I had to learn to work hard
as a young kid trying to call doctors and make appointments, this is so because my parents didn't speak the language. Though some would say that it
is a misfortune I beg to differ. Even though I had difficulties with some of the duties given to me, I grew up with independence. I was never a child
who was afraid of asking questions, I often hear and see the anxiety some individuals have with simply asking for a ketchup packet at a fast food
joint. Independence is an important attribute I believe I gained, because of something my parents lacked. Though I was never an awkward child I was
an overly worrisome child. At a young age, I was involved in the financial aspect of my home. This meant that as a child I understood the value of
money. However, this had its problems, it meant that at the age of 8 was worried if I spent that spare dollar on a packet of gum my parents would later
find themselves in the need of a dollar. I eventually grew to understand how the spare dollar could be spent without the fear of Armageddon. As I grew

The Associated Press: Stylebook Analysis
The Associated Press (2015) Stylebook defines that hyphens are joiners. Use hyphens to avoid ambiguity or when you want to address one single
idea from two or more words. Use of a hyphen is far from standardized. It is optional in most cases, a matter of taste, judgment and style sense. We
cannot speak about general rules for use of hyphens. The use could be optional depending of the judgment, style and sense. Ben Yagoda, a professor of
English and journalism writes in the Chronicle of Higher Education' blog post Hyphenation, Carbonation and X–Ray (2015) "that over time, a common
pattern in English is two–words/hyphenated compound/one word, as in base ball/base–ball/baseball." On the other hand, the Associated Press
Stylebook recommends use of hyphens in cases to avoid confusion. For example, the Stylebook clarifies with examples for use of a hyphen in
small–business owner, but recommends no hyphen in health care center. Use or not of hyphens could cause disagreements. For... Show more content on

Competition is a great way to level the playing field. Competitive bidding drives suppliers down to a market–efficient pricing environment where the
negotiation process can work optimally.
But to have a competitive environment in any acquisition, the following conditions must exist:
В· Competition: First and foremost, there need to be a number of qualified suppliers in the targeted marketplace–that is, no single or sole source
constraints.
В· Ability to move: The buyer must be able to move the business away from the current provider; there can be no binding commitments, for example.
В· Sufficient Volume: The buyer must have enough volume to warrant interest from a sufficient number of qualified bidders.
В· Time for competition: Sufficient time must be available to proceed through the entire competitive process.
В· Willingness to change: The buyer's internal line of business groups must be willing to use any of the qualified bidders.
When negotiations follow a structured bid process (RFP, RFQ, auction, and so forth) or when accuratecost data is known for the product or service in
question, buyers can usually leverage a negotiation technique known as "competitive bargaining." This is the traditional way of hammering out a deal,
marked by hard discussions focused mainly on price and based upon concrete facts. Competitive bargaining can be applied in a wide range of
circumstances, even including single–source

Introduction:
The Associated Press (AP) is an American news agency that was established in 1846 by five daily newspapers from New York City. They
established the cooperation in order to deliver news about the Mexican War faster than the U.S. Post Office could. The known founder was Moses
Yale Beach and the first CEO, named Alexander Jones, came to power in 1848. Today the company is run by Tom Curley who has been the active
CEO since 2003. Curley is stationed in the AP headquarters located in New York City. The AP is, just like it always has been, a not

From the establishments of the company and forward it has been these people who have been traveling all over the world, risking their lives in order
to gather the breaking news that AP is so famous for. These men and woman are the reason that AP has been able to be the first to deliver the breaking
news from many of the most important historical events happening to mankind. From the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the assassination of Abraham
Lincoln to the death of Pope John Paul II and the fall of the shah of Iran the Associated Press's reporters has been there to break the news before anyone
else. The Associated Press has won 49 Pulitzer Prizes in both writing and photography which gives another great example of what an amazing strength
their reporters are to the company. The trustworthiness among these reporters and photographers are once again proven.
When discussing human capital there is another branch that is contributing to the strengths of the company and that are the people that deal with the
corporate part of the company. Even if the reporters and photographers are doing an amazing job creating a brand image for the company it could not
be one without the people running it. One example is the people in the Research and Development department who are always ahead of their time
creating new and innovative ideas for the company. One example of this is the Stylebook a guidebook for journalists, reporters, and photographers all

Luce's introduction talks about how the American press is wrong and how she tries to address the problem. She starts off by tells the other journalist
how she is happy, but the audience makes her unhappy and challenged. This shows her hard work in writing and how the press lacks in writing true
stories.
In the beginning of the speech, she addresses to the audience that she will tell the American press about the truth. Luce criticizes how the media write
false stories and get full credit for it. She states that "I stand here at this rostrum invited to throw rocks at you. You have asked me to tell you what's
wrong with you –American press" (5–7). She wants her audience to have some background information about what they write. By using ethos and
logos, her audience is going to take the feedback because Luce knows her audience. Her audience sees how she uses logical and ethical appeal to
state her claim to the journalist in the room. These devices show that the journalist is being told what they do wrong and how they should try to fix it.

Media Reflective Essay
One of my clients (let's call her Alicia) has always delayed her responses to media inquires or requests. In my line of work, we deal with
monthly, weekly and even daily deadlines, so this type of behaviour has clearly costed us many opportunities in getting exposures in the media.I used
any possible means to reach my clients, being extra proactive while making sure she responds before the deadline. I suggested my superior to mention
it to regional office as this situation affects our business as their public relations consultant. If we don't get enough media exposures as targetted, we
may lose them as a client. Alicia has started to respond the inquries and requests almost promptly. The use of casual communication mean such as
Whatsapp for a friendlier reminder has been more effective in getting her to work as fast as our pace.
During the month of Ramadan, one of our clients held a social activity by providing dinner box to taxi drivers around the city to break their fasting. I
have briefed our photographer to get the exact poses we needed to produce photos for the press release. Turned out the event wasn't prepared

English Class Reflection
I can say with a high degree of confidence that AP Upper–Mid English has been unlike any other English course that I have taken during my academic
career. Put plainly, the material and in–class instruction of the class is revelatory in every sense of the term, and, overall, the organization and matter
of the course was exceptional. In terms of the organization of the course as a whole, I believe that the English Department was able to successfully
distill all of the dominant aspects of learning that an English class epitomizes into the relatively short period of time that school is in session. In my
experience, I have found the class to be organized and structured competently. The schedule, curriculum, andwriting assignments were easy to
understand and I felt as though I exited the classroom every class feeling as if I accomplished what I had to for that day and I had a definite grip on
what to expect for the next class. That being said, I think it is also imperative for me to mention that the course was not overly constricting or
overly–structured either –– the schedule had enough malleability to accommodate for impromptu activities. For instance, when Bob Levy, an
acclaimed journalist for the Washington Post, visited Taft, our class used our period to have a invigorating conversation with him about the future of
Internet Privacy, a conversation that I think was instructive and, in all likelihood, prepared me for the AP Exam just as much as the traditional class

Instead, accounting standards require that Bally recognize initiation fee revenue over the entire membership life. This means that for members who
maintained their memberships beyond the financing period, or initial period of membership, Bally was required to defer initiation fee revenue and
recognize it over the estimated membership life, not over the term of the initial period of membership. However, Bally prematurely recognized its
members' initiation fee revenue over a period that was not only shorter than the estimated membership life, but in most instances even shorter than the
initial period of membership.
Personal Training Services: In addition to selling health club memberships, Bally also sold personal training services (i.e., exercise sessions with
personal trainers). Some customers prepaid for sessions with personal trainers. Accounting standards require that revenue from prepaid personal
training services be recognized only when earned, which is when the personal training services were actually provided. Bally, however, recognized
revenue related to personal training services before those services were actually provided.

Taking the Side of Ms. Narwin from Avi's Nothing But the...
If you've read the book nothing but the truth by Avi, you know that there are many sides you can take. It seems every time you turn a page you can
form a new opinion. With every opinion you can form new points of view and sides. One of the main points of view is Ms. Narwin's. My reasons for
taking Ms. Narwin's side are one, Ms. Narwin meant nothing against patriotism by sending Philip out of the class, two, Philip isn't doing anything in
the sake of Patriotism, three, Philip is a liar who gets around the truth, four, not only does the gossip of people blow things our of proportion, but the
press defiantly does too, and five, there is a teacher/student stereotype that gibes the student a "poor me" reputation which makes them always right ...

His whole case was supported by the facet that he wasn't allowed to sing the song.
Philip is never really clear on his facts. He never tells his parents the real reason he isn't going out for track. He completely lied when he said no one
really even like Ms. Narwin. Ms. Narwin was also never out to get him, yet that's what he told several people. Most importantly though, he never made
it clear weather he was singing or humming the National Anthem. If he would have just made it clear that he was humming in the first place, patriotism
might not have been such assumed intention. On page 35, 46, and 50–54, you see these deceptions.
One thing everyone knows is when people gossip and the press gets a hold on a story, the story won't be straight and it will be a distortion of the truth.
Both can be manipulating, false advertised, and one–sided. Also, both can be just as bad as the other. It depends on your situation.
One example of what gossip can do is shown in the Anderson Independent News Paper in an article called "Trusting Loved Ones Enough to Tell
Them the Things They Need to Know." The story tells about two sisters who were very close concerning aspects of their lives. One of the sisters,
Sharon, calls her brother, Joe, only to find out the sister, who she thought she could confide in, is going to a heart doctor. The sister had previously

European History the following year, I chose to take AP because I felt like history should be something challenging that forces one to think and

didn't go well and I failed. Frustrated by this failure and feeling powerless, I dug in my heels the second semester and began to study more and yet

Criminal Law Reflection
The law has always intrigued me, I have grown up my whole life wanting to be an attorney, specifically in criminal law. While I am now unsure if I

late in the semester, week nine, and ten in the articles project, I still follow them now. Before this assignment I never read the newspaper, aside from
the occasional "Dear Abby" story. After this assignment I realized there was a difference in the way the same stories were portrayed in the newspaper
and on the news on the television. Reading the newspaper has changed my perspective on current events, and has challenged my opinions that I had
made based on watching the news. The first major story that I started following was in week three, and it was an article published in the New York

Casino Royale In Casino Royale
Paul Haggis, perhaps known best by Bond fans for adapting the celebrated Ian Fleming novel Casino Royale into the 2006 feature film starring Daniel

A civil lawsuit filed in December of 2017, accusing the screenwriter of raping publicist Haleigh Breest has prompted three additional women to break
their silence and come forward to Breest's attorneys with sexual misconduct accusations of their own, claiming to have been violated by the filmmaker
between 1996 and 2015. The women were all struggling to make it in the entertainment industry when, they claim, that Haggis lured them to private or
semi–private places under the pretense of discussing the future of their careers. One of the publicists professed that he forced her to perform oral sex,
then raped her.
In a recent Associated Press interview, one of the other women chose to speak up disclosing the unnerving incident that allegedly occurred between the
two. "I need to be inside you," she recollected him saying before she managed to escape.
The three newest accusers came clean to AP on the condition that they were not identified publicly out of extreme fear of retaliation from Haggis.
Thankfully, the Associated Press generally does not identify those who claim to fall victim to sexual misconduct.

How Did The Printing Press Advanced European Exploration
Brian Benny

Professor Hoeflinger
Early Modern Europe
Printing Press Cause for Exploration
The printing press advanced European exploration in the fifteenth century. The printing press was a form communication to the people that gave out
information a lot quicker. This became a routine for people to read every day. Because of theprinting press, individuals found out about the explorations
that occurred. They knew about the advantages of exploring and of the dangers associated with exploring new world. The printing press really
emphasized the positives entailed in exploration like more wealth, being able to get your own land, and basically getting a fresh start.
At the point when different nations and explorers acknowledged there could be monetary advantages for themselves and their nation by reading about
the explorations, this prompted more and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This urged more explorations to happen. The printing press was essential to early travelers in that it produced enthusiasm for exploration. Travel
books were very popular when individuals figured out how to read; before this time, many individuals had little information of the world outside
their own particular towns. At the point when Columbus found Hispaniola, he could give a better record of his voyage through the written works as
opposed to only an oral record. This made his story more available and more individuals wound up plainly intrigued by spending money on
exploration. While the land Columbus explored was set aside for Spain, his travel accounts were converted into different dialects too, prompting
English and French enthusiasm for the New World. As more individuals explored, the printing press would likewise be utilized to compose manuals
for future investigation. For instance, these books could contain advice on the best way to compose one's armada or which local groups to

Platinum Box Case Study Essay
Executive Summary The new business venture to produce quality boxes for the U.S market has created a requirement for Platinum Box to source
five new presses. The three bids to supply these presses were from Merakuri, Jabaking and Pnutype. Each bid had its attributes over the other.
Finding a way to fairly evaluate each bid was needed. A Weighted Evaluation System was chosen. Four factors were used to evaluate the bids. They
are: Performance & Quality, Service, Price (total cost of purchase determines the pricing factor) and Financing. By applying a value to each, a better
evaluation of the bids can be made. Performance & Quality was perceived to be of utmost importance to the point where the success of the project
depended on it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection process is further complicated by Platinum Box plan to expand to 500,000 boxes per year in three years requiring more presses so
the desire to form a relationship with a quality supplier is of importance. By using a Weighted Evaluation System as a tool we can better
understand the bids and their attributes. Because not all the four factors Performance, Service, Price and Finance have the same importance a
value or weight has been assigned. Merakuri Jabaking Pnutype Performance 40 35 20 30 Service 20 20 15 15 Price 20 15 20 10 Finance 20 15 10 20
Total 100 85 65 75 Some of the reasoning behind this weighting is based on the importance of Performance & Quality as a sourcing criteria thus it is
given a weight of 40 compared to the other three at 20 equally for a total of 100. Performance has such a high weight because it encompasses such
factors as

What I Would Never Have Believed That Concepts From Economics Prior to writing this, I would never have believed that concepts from economics would have fit into my decisions in course selections. But, now looking at the individual concepts and what they really entail, it makes perfect sense. As a sophomore picking out classes, I had free choice whether to enter the CP course, the Honors course or the AP course. The only reason why I was able to choose between these three courses was because of my grades. This is similar to the concept of "barriers to entry" in economics; the students are the new firms, the courses are the industries, and the different grades are the actual barrier into the courses. During sophomore year, I maintained an average grade in the honors history course of higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, some of the benefits included more credit, a more interesting topic, and learning more. On the other hand, the costs included more time dedicated, a harder course, and the AP test. These costs were of a lesser importance than the benefits were, plus, the AP test could be beneficial. By using this concept, I determined that taking the AP course did benefit me more in the long run than taking the honors course. One of the major benefits that I looked at was whether taking this course would help benefit me in the long run. I used the concept of "human capital", thinking that with this course and my other "collective" knowledge that I would gather from other classes, I was preparing myself to be a well–rounded student and so possibly more successful in the future. In taking the AP course, I would learn a slightly different topic than the Honors or CP classes, and at a higher level of difficulty. I would definitely learn the topic and broaden my knowledge, but I would also learn more skills, like managing time wisely and different studying skills for a harder course. On the other hand, the costs of taking the AP course was like the concept of "opportunity cost", the things I had to give up in order to take the course. For one, I would have to give up taking an easier course, and perhaps a better grade, if I opted to take the AP course. I would also have to give up more of my time to prepare for the course, hence eliminating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, I had never put much thought into the method used to accomplish this. As I poured through articles, looking at the different types of research methods used, I could not help but notice the hook and eye connections. I also wondered if they the author was familiar with the hook and eye concept, or if this is a common, natural way of writing. I also know that I need more time using and identifying the main connections (phrases or words). I selected an article about police body cameras. The article cited several studies, as well as the authors' ideas and thoughts. The article, titled Police Body Cameras, is part of the CATO Institute's National Police Misconduct Reporting Project, and prepared by Matthew Feeney in 2015. The theme throughout the article is that the use of body cameras will reduce police misconduct. Although we all hope this is the case, we must also look at the other issues involved with the wearing of body cameras. In an effort to gain citizen buy–in and obtain their opinions, they conducted surveys. Interestingly enough, most people did not want the officers to record them, unless it was during an enforcement encounter, such as a traffic stop or arrest situation. In looking at the effects body camera had in relation to police behavior, they cited a study from Rialto, California. They conducted the study over a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted in devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP), located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley, 2012). AP is an oxidizer that when combined with aluminum makes the base for solid–state rocket fuel (Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, all space exploration by NASA was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite (Lilley, 2012). Each of these materials is makes AP act as a class–A explosive as explained in Appendix B. Also, within many buildings at the PEPCON facility, dust control was either minimal or nonexistent, while cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert & Alvares, 2003, p.7). This led to massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated the situation further once the fire started (Lambert & Alvares, 2003, p.7). The incredibly risky storage practices of this powerful oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen. The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple buildings, the most important of which to this incident is the batch–drying building located in the southwest portion of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley, n.d., p. 22). The batch dryer was used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing, however, this facility was not suitable for this work due to its construction. The building was constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up on the fiberglass and accelerated the fire out of control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk was known by PEPCON as there had been previous fires in this building, however nothing was done to deter future fires (Case ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Getting the correct informational statements out to the media in a timely and accurate fashion is important to any Crisis Management Team; and being prepared for any forum of public speaking is vital as one only gets one chance to make a first impression. In order to begin preparation, it is recommended by Hoffman to begin with brainstorming to come up with the any and all possible questions that the press corps could possibly ask. Some of the other themes that the author points out include, if it is a false assertion, correct it; confusing questions should be clarified, but be careful not to keep asking for a question to be restated, this will make the spokesperson look incompetent. Appropriation is the practice of creating a new work by taking a pre –existing image from another context–art history, advertising, the media–and combining that appropriated image with new ones. Or, a well–known artwork by someone else may be represented as the appropriator's own. Such borrowings can be regarded as the two–dimensional equivalent of the found object. The first regularly published English newspaper appeared in London in 1622. They were owner–operated, and were largely autonomous, although risky because talking about royalty and politics was illegal. Most early newspapers were short–lived. Printing and paper were expensive and relatively few people could read. Journalism was also a risky business, as those in power did not welcome criticism or scrutiny. The late 18th century saw an important shift in European societies, namely the formation of a group known as 'the public'. Urban life had to develop sufficiently for strangers to be regularly thrown into contact with one another. Common interests began to be widely shared among people otherwise not linked by family, religion, or other established categories of social life. A rising bourgeois class came out from under exclusive royal control, bringing with them leisure time, education, and financial means. It signalled a power shift, both financial and political. The person attending the press conference should be economical with the truth and avoid any figurative view of the company's present situation. The downsizing must be covered by the new salary scale and benefits being offered to the employees and this time it should be portrayed as a turning point in the history of Weymouth Steel Corporation. Expected questions from the reporters must be prepared in advance before this conference in a brainstorming session of the top management. 3.A new vision to the survivors Once the downsizing is complete it is time for Weymouth to energize his company with a fresh vision, inspiration and motivation. Another general conference of the remaining salaried employees must be called where again Mr. Weymouth should head the meeting. Here the main focus should be to remove the ill feelings of employees against the company and to convince them that the company is still a workable organization which cannot work without their support. Here they must mention the new salaries and all sorts of benefits that the company has added for its employees. Using these Mr. Weymouth should try to convince his

My mother is a full–time housekeeper at a hotel in the state over and my dad is a full–time carpenter. I would describe myself as blessed as I have never had to feel the pain of hunger. Even though I do have less than my friends I make up for it with work ethic. I had to learn to work hard as a young kid trying to call doctors and make appointments, this is so because my parents didn't speak the language. Though some would say that it is a misfortune I beg to differ. Even though I had difficulties with some of the duties given to me, I grew up with independence. I was never a child who was afraid of asking questions, I often hear and see the anxiety some individuals have with simply asking for a ketchup packet at a fast food joint. Independence is an important attribute I believe I gained, because of something my parents lacked. Though I was never an awkward child I was an overly worrisome child. At a young age, I was involved in the financial aspect of my home. This meant that as a child I understood the value of money. However, this had its problems, it meant that at the age of 8 was worried if I spent that spare dollar on a packet of gum my parents would later find themselves in the need of a dollar. I eventually grew to understand how the spare dollar could be spent without the fear of Armageddon. As I grew older the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Use hyphens to avoid ambiguity or when you want to address one single idea from two or more words. Use of a hyphen is far from standardized. It is optional in most cases, a matter of taste, judgment and style sense. We cannot speak about general rules for use of hyphens. Competitive bidding drives suppliers down to a market–efficient pricing environment where the negotiation process can work optimally. But to have a competitive environment in any acquisition, the following conditions must exist: В· Competition: First and foremost, there need to be a number of qualified suppliers in the targeted marketplace–that is, no single or sole source constraints. When negotiations follow a structured bid process (RFP, RFQ, auction, and so forth) or when accuratecost data is known for the product or service in question, buyers can usually leverage a negotiation technique known as "competitive bargaining." Put plainly, the material and in–class instruction of the class is revelatory in every sense of the term, and, overall, the organization and matter of the course was exceptional. In terms of the organization of the course as a whole, I believe that the English Department was able to successfully distill all of the dominant aspects of learning that an English class epitomizes into the relatively short period of time that school is in session. In my experience, I have found the class to be organized and structured competently. The schedule, curriculum, andwriting assignments were easy to understand and I felt as though I exited the classroom every class feeling as if I accomplished what I had to for that day and I had a definite grip on what to expect for the next class. That being said, I think it is also imperative for me to mention that the course was not overly constricting or overly–structured either –– the schedule had enough malleability to accommodate for impromptu activities. For instance, when Bob Levy, an acclaimed journalist for the Washington Post, visited Taft, our class used our period to have a invigorating conversation with him about the future of Internet Privacy, a conversation that I think was instructive and, in all likelihood, prepared me for the AP Exam just as much as the traditional class that we ... It seems every time you turn a page you can form a new opinion. With every opinion you can form new points of view and sides. One of the main points of view is Ms. Narwin's. My reasons for taking Ms. Narwin's side are one, Ms. Narwin meant nothing against patriotism by sending Philip out of the class, two, Philip isn't doing anything in the sake of Patriotism, three, Philip is a liar who gets around the truth, four, not only does the gossip of people blow things our of proportion, but the press defiantly does too, and five, there is a teacher/student stereotype that gibes the student a "poor me" reputation which makes them always right ... Ms. Narwin was also never out to get him, yet that's what he told several people. Most importantly though, he never made it clear weather he was singing or humming the National Anthem. If he would have just made it clear that he was humming in the first place, patriotism might not have been such assumed intention.
