Reflection Of APA Style Writing
First of all I would like to thank you for the time and hard work you put in this semester to teach
my classmates and me. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing,
how to write different format essays and Bloom s Taxonomy. In your course I not only learned
how to become a better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was
feeling the first day of class. This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel
worse. Since the first day I came into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve
my writingskills in English one specific assignment that I consider to be helpful in my writing
skills was the thesis tweeter assignment . I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing
because my first language is Spanish and I have a lot of trouble learningEnglish. In this letter I will
let you know what I learned and how I have met the program s standards of focus, development
and clarity because I have practice APA style, writing assays and using Bloom s Taxonomy
When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your
course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the
correct way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from
the librarian on how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers
and videos. The yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the
semester because I would always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning
how to properly use Apa style was very helpful for me because now I apply those skills on my
assignments and I do a better job than before. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident
while writing. Before learning the proper way of using APA style I was always unsure If I was
giving credit to the sources I was using. I m planning on applying this writing skill in and out of
class to have a clear and smooth writing when It gets to give credit to sources.
Throughout the semester we practice literature by writing several essays such as diagnostic,
narrative, current event and common exit essay. In all these four essays

theft be dealt with under the law in this country? In Great Britain, the Theft Act of 1968 is an Act

A decision will be drawn from here. This process is characteristic of the inquisitorial model. In a
case of theft, such as petty theft, it is considered a misdemeanor and under civil law it would
involve investigation by civil servants called procurators (Law and Society, p 57). The case
would be tried under civil law and a defendant in civil litigation is never incarcerated and never
executed. A losing defendant in a civil litigation is only expected to reimburse the plaintiff for the
goods stolen. Punitive damages are usually never awarded unless the defendant had malicious
intent or gross negligence. If damages are awarded and the defendant does not have assets or
insurance, the plaintiff will receive nothing even though the court awarded monetary damages
(http://www.rbs2.com/cc.htm). Identify any other factors for consideration. Would the fact that
your friend is female impact her treatment under the law in this country? In France, the fact that
she is a female would not have an impact on the outcome of her crime. The same process would
apply whether she is female or male. In civil law, the wrongdoer is not punished; he only suffers
so much harm as is necessary to make good the wrong he or she has done (http://www.rbs2.com

most, under civil law. When

An Environmental Assessment ( Ea ) For Maryland Gas ...
QUESTION PRESENTED Did FERC s issuance of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and
corresponding Finding of no Significant Impact (FONSI) for Maryland Gas 400 Line pipeline
project violate NEPA? Should the Sierra Club sue FERC over this issue? SHORT ANSWER
Yes. FERC s EA violated NEPA s requirement to consider the cumulative and indirect impacts of a
proposed project. While FERC did consider some indirect impacts of the 400 Line project, FERC
failed to analyze the 400 Line in conjunction with two connected pipeline projects: the 500 Line
and the 600 Line. FERC s fragmented analysis violates NEPA s requirement that environmental
review consider interdependent parts of a larger action (40 C.F.R. В§ 1508.25a). Other potential
objections to FERC s EA, including the project s effects on endangered species and FERC s
failure to analyze certain alternative arrangements, have a smaller and less certain likelihood of
legal success. FERC provided a reasoned explanation for most of their choices, and will thus
receive generous deference from any reviewing court on those issues. FERC, though, failed to
mention either of the two related pipeline projects in the EA, so the Sierra Club will have a
strong case that FERC did not meet the requirement, cited in Robertson v. Methow Valley
Citizens Council, 490 U.S. 332 (1989), to take a hard look at the environmental consequences of
the 400 Line pipeline. FACTS See prompt. DISCUSSION Does a categorical exclusion (CATEX)

Masculinity In The Film Ripley s Aliens
While Ripley manages to use the technology, machinery and weaponry to defeat the aliens, she
tries to be as inventive and resourceful as possible to distinguish herself from the militarised
approach of the marines. And so when the marines start to be wiped out one by one by the
aliens, Ripley decides to take on a leadership role because no one would listen to her at first and
doesn t want to feel responsible for any more deaths. At this point in the film, she destroys any
fantasy version or perception of what men want in women. We fully now know how Ripley is a
person. She is pushy, aggressive, rude, injured, suffering from PTSD, doesn t wear makeup, tired,
smart, motherly, angry, empathetic, and determined to save others, even at great cost to herself
which makes her character all the more heroic and masculine as a majority of these attributes hold
connotations with masculinity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Reagan era in American society of the 1980s, there were more opportunities for
middle class college graduates and women for work as there was a rise in rise of hi tech firms,
finance and retail. Where as for men, the decline in heavy industry made it hard for men to find
high paid full time work in industry, in which so many working class men joined the military. Yet
Ripley with all these male attributes can relate more to men in the Reagan era. James Cameron
rewrites Ripley as an action hero, as Aliens (1986) is a military expedition/combat film. At the
same time, the political climate of the Reagan era informed the film s conservative revision of
Ripley into a socially authorized female role: the mother Ellen Ripley . (Gallardo C. Smith, 2004:
10) Even tough she has all these male attributes to her personality, there is one thing that keeps a
part of her feminine and it s the maternal instinct she has for Newt throughout the

A New Form Of Energy
Oil drove the industrial revolution and brought civilization a step forward, but so much money
should not be spent on something that is quickly running out or that is doubling in price. Oil has
brought civilization towards greatness, developed countries, and even brought them back from
the brink of poverty. Society has lived off of fossil fuels for the past hundred years powering
cities and driving it forward towards great innovations. Such as the car engine, electricity, the
power of flight, and the power to globalize trade worldwide. With a growing dependence in oil and
natural gas, the supply is quickly diminishing and prices are soaring causing countries to invest
billions and create global environmental changes. A new form of energy... Show more content on

Oil supply is decreasing and with the great number of oil dependence in this country, some of the
American people s hope that the new bill called the Keystone XL project is pass in order to help
Americans resupply their oil. According to Valerie Volcovici of the Chicago Tribune, the
Keystone XL project will pipeline Canada to the United States and be able to bring down oil
shale or oil sand down to our refineries for processing, oil shale is basically oil stuck between the
pores of sand and rock (Volcovici). This project will not only be expensive, it will also be bad
for the environment, In order to get the oil shale, one must strip the land of its entire soil
foundation which causes mass environment and land change. This bill would also be
hypocritical of president Barack Obama. In the president s inaugural address, he stated that
America s growing price on gas, its dependence, as well as the issue of global climate change.
His plans on passing this bill, all that he stated would be implausible. With many people
supporting and opposing the president s bill, this is the one of the most scrutinized infrastructure
project in our nation s history, according to the president of building and construction, Sean

2 December 2016 Social anxiety All day, every day, life is like this. Fear. Apprehension.
Avoidance. Pain. Anxiety about what you said. Fear that you said something wrong. Worry about
others disapproval. Afraid of rejection, of not fitting in. Anxious to enter a conversation, afraid you
ll have nothing to talk about. Hiding what s wrong with you deep inside, putting up a defensive
wall to protect your secret. ( What Is It Like to Live with Social Anxiety? ). Social anxiety is a fear
that causes struggle in people all the time. Being shy is different than having social anxiety. In
America social anxiety is a big deal. There certain ways to help someone with social anxiety.
Social anxiety and shyness are two different conditions; shyness can be overcome while social

Shyness is the physical trait of a person. Social anxiety affects the mind because it is a mental
illness. Being shy causes a person to be nervous in social settings, but then in social setting
someone with social anxiety is more likely to have panic attack and a melt down. After a while a
person who is shy will become comfortable with their current situation. Being socially anxious is
hard to overcome and takes much longer for the person to become comfortable in the same
situation. People who are shy can live a normal life but someone social anxiety is going to live
in fear of leaving the house. The nature of the relationship between shyness and social phobia can
be clarified by assessing rates of social phobia in highly shy and normative samples. (chavira,

Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon
The novel Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes is narrated through progress reports written by
Charlie Gordon the protagonist of the novel. Novel is based on how people mock mentally
challenged people and how people treat others inferior in terms of intelligence. Charlie is a kind
hearted mentally challenge person who has a desire of knowledge. He was gave the opportunity
to take an operation that will amp his intelligence which was first successful on a lab mouse

knowledgable. Charlie undergo the surgery and he slowly and then tragically become an genius.
The surgery soon takes an negative impact on him. He begins to become bitter and starts to

Throughout the story Charlie gradually remember his past life such as his mother resented him for

Knowledge. As the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve gave them power of knowledge the operation
gave Charlie knowledge. The nurse who was on duty while Charlie was recurring and Fanny who
works with Charlie at the baker both mention that Charlie is defying God s will just like Adam and

Love Run Smooth
William Shakespeare once said, The course of true love never did run smooth. In the drama
Romeo and Juliet they were star crossed lovers which means that they are destined to never be
together. Throughout the drama you can see that their love didn t run smooth. In the matter of
four days, Romeo and Juliet were married, Romeo was banished, and they both killed
themselves. Throughout the whole drama, the Nurse was always there for Juliet. Juliet and the
Nurse have two kinds of love. They have storge and philia love. Philia is friend love and storge
is family love. The Nurse raised Juliet from a baby. In that time the richer women would do
nothing and they would have servants and nurses to do everything for them. In the scene III Act I
the Nurse talked about how she remembers when Juliet was born and how she was the prettiest
baby she had every nursed. She also talked about how she thinks that Juliet is too young to start
talking about marriage even though Lady Capulet was married around the same age as juliet. She

Friendship In John Knowles s A Separate Peace
In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance
is no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a
companion will move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from
again, or pass away, never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a
relationship. It all depends on whether the resolution of it will cement a life long friendshipor a
lifelong schism. Any relationship can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This
is similar to what John Knowles writes about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of
one of his main characters, Gene Forrester, experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes
his friend Finny s leg to be broken, and Knowles uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a
friendship does not always have to make sense for it to exist. In nearly every major interaction
involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which would certainly sabotage his relationship
with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong emotions, which eventually do make
themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene begins a conspiracy against
Finny, thinking, Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies (53). Even after Finny
eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim to Gene s
latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a

How Technology Can Enhance His Students Understanding Of...
My CT uses technology in many ways to enhance his students understanding of Math and Science
concepts. I have noticed in my class Science lessons, they often engage in learning through a
document camera presentation, computer lab activity, IPad research, PowerPoints, and educational
videos. My CT tried to use various types of conceptdelivery to keep his students engaged in the
concept being taught. When the students were learning about lifecycles of animals, the students
were taught with all of the different types of technology listed.
My CT would use a document camera or a PowerPoint to teach his Science lessons. The
document camera allowed the teacher to display opaque worksheets, pictures, and stories to the
whole class so that they were able to follow along. One day, my CT was talking about the life
cycle of a sharks and he wanted to show the class an article from a National Geographic weekly
that talked about sharks and human interactions. The document camera allowed the teacher to
display the article and its pictures to the whole class at once instead of trying to talk about it while
the students passed around the magazine article. By using technology in Science, the teacher was
able to keep his students involved in the content instead of having students become disengaged due
to worrying about where the magazine is and where it s going.
The teacher used videos to get the students to see how an animal progresses through the different
stages of life and how we can

The American Of American History
Learning about American history is an extremely fascinating topic. It s intriguing how our great
nation developed and changed throughout history. From wars to treaties, it s all essential in
understanding how our nation has grown to be what it is now. In our ever growing society today,
immigrants are migrating to this nation with hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams that lead them
to live a better and more prosperous life. The United Statesof America is known as big melting pot
. This melting pot that they refer to is an integration of nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities
during the 1980 s. This term came into use in the 1780 s. Multiculturalism has always played a
vital role in shaping our society. It is defined as the historical evolution of cultural diversity within
a jurisdiction. The jurisdiction being the United States. With this in mind, it is evident that the
idea of an American dream did influence immigration over the course of our nation s history. For
any American citizen, living the American Dream is an essential part. It is what they want to be a
part of. Citizens feel entitled to live the American Dream because they it s become so important in
this country to become successful. This has been part of American social issues for a very long
time and continues to be an issue now, in the present day. American Dream? Well, what exactly is
an American dream? Is it an idea? A notion? A thesis? Well, in the simplest form, the American
dream is an idea. An idea

The Increasing Application of Scientific Management...
The Increasing Application of Scientific Management Principles Of Work
Organisations To Services Is, Despite Its Limitations, Inevitable and
Irreversible.
IIntroduction
From the outset of this essay it is necessary to define the basic principles of
Scientific Management in order for the statement to be fully understood and why if at all such a
practice is В‘inevitable and indeed В‘irreversible within a service industry context.
The underlying belief that scientific management, or rationalisation= , is able to provide the basis
for separating management from the execution of work. В‘The rationalisation of work has the
effect of transferring functions of planning, allocation and co ordination to managers, whilst

Within the service sector there is often more labour and less capital. This В‘human emphasis greatly
limits the application of scientific management principles.
Targett (1995) has identified seven distinctive characteristics that highlight the limitations of
applying scientific management principles and therefore raising doubts over the В‘inevitability of
such management practices being used in the service sector.
Measurement of output and performance is difficult. Quality of service cannot be measured solely
by easily quantifiable data, such as revenue and sales volume alone. For example, the performance
of a health care organisation is a combination not only of financial results and patient throughput but
also of quality of care, the effectiveness of preventative measures and many other factors The
product is not tangible. Amongst the many effects of this are that quality control is not straight
forward. For example checking the quality of car manufacture is a lot clearer task than checking
the quality of service given at a hotels reception desk. Production and consumption are usually
simultaneous. A particular implication of this is that there can be no inventory of the service itself,
therefore not allowing В‘systematic observation nor measurement. For example, a shop assistant s
advice to a customer cannot be stored. Hales (1994) has suggested that where the end product is
tailored to specific customer wants, the

Vast Mountain Mountains
Warren Wilson. How did I end up here? I could, be anywhere else. However, Appalachia
undoubtedly has to be the perfect place to foster my curiosity of the mountains. Throughout my life
I have been interested in protecting the environment, many different avenues of art expression, and
the cultural roots of mountain people. Now, all of those subjects are covered in The Encyclopedia
of Appalachia, but I can go further to tie all of those subjects into the main topic of agriculture,
specifically sustainable agriculture, which I just so happen to be majoring in (convenient, huh?).

Vast mountain ranges and rocky cliffs come to mind. Those are both some obvious factors as to
why agricultural practices may be hard in the region, but other than physical boundaries, what
are the difficulties of growing in this mountainous region? I will surely need to know these if I
plan to make a living off of growing in the mountains. My fascination for how native tribes work
with the land raised the question of what crops were originally grown/are native, in Appalachia
prior to the European invasion bringing about other crops. Were these new crops brought in
essential for a growing population or were they destructive to the soil, being invasive plants?
Tying into the idea of native crops, I would love to look more into the herbs found within the
forests of Appalachia. Wanting to be a doula and homesteader, I have found interest in researching
the benefits of medicinal herbs on the pains of childbirth. Finding those herbs right here in
Appalachia would be ideal. The encyclopedia had a section entirely on mushrooms. I did not dive
into what it said because at this point I am just seeking questions. I am wondering, however, why
do mushrooms grow well here? Is it simply because of the thick canopy of the forest providing
ample shade or do these mountains contain particular nutrients necessary for mushroom growth?
My father has always shown an interest in growing shiitake mushrooms. I have never spoken to
him about what sparked his interest, but living in the Cherokee National Forest, which is
neighboring the Appalachian Mountains, I could find this information

Cultural Pressures to be Thin Essay
Have you ever taken a second to compare the size of men and women today to the sizes years
ago? Recently there is a huge new trend of becoming as thin and fit as possible and thinking this
is how one becomes beautiful. No one actually knows where this idea has emerged from. In the
past big has been known as being healthy and beautiful. Take for instance Marilyn Monroe, she
was the pin up girl for many men and wasn t exactly thin to today s standards. Today s celebrities

We have elevated the pursuit of a lean, fat free body into a new religion (Seid, 498). Her point is
trying to bring across how people are beginning to live their lives around being as thin and fit as
physically possible. They eat breathe and sleep this new fitness craze and follow all the rules as if
they were the 10 commandments. There is no clear reason why the media is promoting this extreme
slenderness other than many people are so deathly afraid of becoming fat that they would do
anything to avoid it. Advertisements are promoting unhealthy weight loss and crazy gimmicks such
as diet pills. Despite almost universal criticism following weight loss programs and an epidemic of
dangerous eating disorders, people continue to spend billions of dollars yearly on weight loss
products and services. This unrelenting pressure to be thin is driven by diet, fashion, cosmetic,
fitness and pharmaceutical industries.
These industries promote their products with financial rewards and unreachable expectation for
all, especially women. The fashion industry affects everyone. When one walks into a clothing
store the nice clothes are found in smaller sizes. Different stores are for larger women and men to

states, fashionable beauty is no longer about the clothes covering the body, but about the naked

Mrs. Mallard Character Analysis

Mallard represents a key character in the story, also known as the protagonist. This story discusses
a loveless and repressive marriage between Mrs. Louise Mallard and Mr. Brently Mallard. This
identifies as unusual, considering that in this time period society deemed that a woman simply

feels trapped in an oppressive marriage. When Mr. Mallard passes she feels a sense of vast
independence. She embraces her new life after death experience and discovers a newfound sense
of freedom. In The Story of an HourKate Chopin clarifies Mrs. Mallard s emotions after her
husband s death by stating, Into this she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that

Songs Break Up Songs
Break Up Songs Throughout Different Genres
What does Paris by The Chainsmokers, Say Something by A Great Big World, and Here Comes
Goodbye by Rascal Flatts all have in common? They are break up songs. Each in their own way,
all of these songs are about pain and sadness caused by break ups. Some of these songs are meant
to cause an already sad person to cope with their sadness by pushing them farther into The Abyss .
A few are meant to touch on the happier memories of the relationship giving someone hope that
they will love again. All of these songs, through their lyrics, structure, and rhythm, are all meant to
cope with a person s sadness that results from a break up. Paris by the Chainsmokers is a song that
reflects on the happy side of a relationship that is rarely seen in break ups. The song is essentially
the writer remembering a relationship with fondness. It tells the tale of two young lovers on their
own and in love who eventually break apart. It also touches on happy memories like the lyrics We
were staying in paris,/ to get away from your parents (Chainsmokers, 1 2). By highlighting the
highs instead of lows, it shows the listener that they should not be sad about their loss but happy
that they ever got to experience the joy and happiness that most relationships provide. Almost no
relationships end with happiness but this song shows that it is possible to think happily of a
relationship that has ended. This song also uses higher pitched, electronic music to

ROIC has decreased from 2008 to 2010 and increased in 2011 by about 10%. However, the ROIC
is projected to decrease to 2014 and then remain stable @ 20% for the next 10 years. Based on
the APV and comparable multiples valuation, it can be seen that the future of Dell looks bleak
as it stands today. The Personal Computers (PC) industry is not a great industry to invest in
unless you are ready to innovate and adapt to the changing demands of consumers. Adding this
to the fact that consumers are slowing moving away from PCs to smartphones and tablets makes
it a no brainer for Dell to make significant changes to its business model as soon as possible DEAL
STRUCTURE Dell s 2013 interest coverage ratio has decreased from about 44 in 2011 to 17.6. This
trend is a bit of a concern as the risk of bankruptcy increases with more debt. Dell has about $21.8
billion in liability obligations and $10.9 billion in excess cash ((Yahoo Finance). At a $13.75 per
share, an equity amount of $3 billion is needed to complete the deal. It is recommended that
Michael Dell stays on as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after the LBO deal.

The Contribution of the Supernatural to Richard III Essay
The Contribution of the Supernatural to Richard III
During the Renaissance period people were very superstitious and England on a whole was an
extremely religious country; people believed in both God and the Devil and Heaven and Hell.
They also believed in prophecies, supernatural and curses. A modern audience would have reacted
very differently to the play than a Shakespearean audience. The events contained within Richard III
must have seemed very real to a Shakespearean audience as it depicts the historical events of the
rise and fall of Richard III. For a Shakespearean audience these events happened only a century
earlier. To a modern audience it is viewed as what it is, a dramatisation of a... Show more content

Richard III is a play based upon the dramatisation of history.
The supernatural is an event that depends upon the superseding of the laws of nature, an event
which cannot occur naturally in our world under any circumstances with or without the assistance
of any natural being. Only God, or the Devil, has the power to cause supernatural events to occur.
Richard III deals with supernatural elements such as curses, devils, dreams and witchcraft. I
believe supernatural elements were included in Richard III to add a sense of dread that matches
the malice of Richard, to show that divine nemesis exists. Shakespeare created Richard as a
machiavellian who takes delight in governing through fear and force. He is a character of sheer
evil; however Shakespeare provides a contrast to Richard s villainy via the voices of the female
characters. Margaret and Anne contribute by predicting the dire consequences of Richard s acts;
they also express their intense hatred through curses.
The most common use of supernatural by Shakespeare within Richard III is curses. Curses are
magic spells placed upon people with the intention of harm. The desired affect of curses can range
from illness to death. Curses are commonly associated

How Did Andrew Jackson Influence The Ideologies Of Government
Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were two influential political figures in two very different
eras. Each formed their own democracy that helped shape the way people think about American
government and continually held their own ideologies. Consequently, the ideologies the two
presidents supported were changed also at many points throughout their terms. The continuities and
changes of their ideologies will be examined throughout this paper
Thomas Jefferson was a towering personality who wrote the declaration of American
Independence and became the third President of the country. He was the founder of the
Democratic Republican Party and even served as the Secretary of State in the cabinet of George
Washington. He was first elected President in 1801 and is known as the President who purchased
Louisiana from France. During his second term, he passed a bill that banned the import of slaves
into the country. His vision contained many philosophical principles, which allowed him to believe
that the will of the people provided the best results when it came to directing the government.
(UShistory.org, 2012)
Jackson was the 7th President of the US and considered as a great democratic President by the
historians. He is hailed for his role in protecting liberty and democracy. He is also known for his
policies that supported power for individual states though he wanted a strong federal government
too. He is the President who was strongly against a central bank and, in fact, ensured

Kennelly Citizen Youth
II. Dominant Narratives and Findings of Kennelly s Citizen Youth The terms citizen and activist are
often used broadly. Without any historical, social or political context, the fundamental reasons that
evoke political participation are usually lost. Eventually, notions of the citizen activist become
generalized across social and political spectrums. For youth, modern discourses surrounding
activism lacks the differentiation between citizen and activist. As a result, the many underlying
reasons for political participation become almost invisible. In the book, Jacqueline Kennelly
explores the importance of what it means to be a certain kind of youth citizen in the twenty first
century (p. 3). Furthermore, she explores how youth activism... Show more content on

15). Without understanding certain historical processes that shape notions of an idyllic citizen, like
those discussed in the previous paragraph, we cannot understand the current exclusions that lead to
activism. Specifically, Kennelly argues that the constraints of neoliberalism are reinforced
differently through what she calls the habitus. The habitus is a system of dispositions that create
certain conditions for youth activism (p. 75). In this chapter of the book, Kennelly interviews
several participants to understand how the habitus acts as an influencing agent. For example, by
growing up in a home that emphasizes social justice (i.e. having activist parents), an individual
could be predisposed to the importance of activism (p. 79). At the same time, certain
predispositions may also encourage activism. Along various racial, cultural and ethnic fault lines,
activism may be encouraged for the sake of equality. Among many examples, Kennelly uses the
example of Sanna, a Kenyan Canadian who feels the need to explain she is more than just
Canadian based on her appearance (p. 85). In this aspect, the both habitus examples conflict in
origin, yet both create a sense of social justice. This paragraph largely relies on Pierre Bordieu s
notion that every field contains a certain

Reflection Paper On Japanese Garden
The Japanese gardens is going to be the basis of my reflection paper with regards to the topic on
reconnaissance. The Japanese gardens are small gardens with a certain unique landscape found
especially in eastern japan. The Japanese gardens apart from being archaic, are existent to date. In
major countries in the world today, it is next to impossible to find practices that have existed to
date bearing in mind the speedy population growth (Harry). Moreover, japan being one of the most
industrialized countries in the world, one would think that the population should be thinking of
more industrial expansion for the benefit of economic growth. Japan has however defied the odds
by preserving their gardens not only for this generation but also for the generations to come. This is
something in my opinion that is of keen interest. There are certain elements that are depicted in the
reading that are depicted that makes it stand out as compared to the other three genres that were
provided. First, their religious beliefs are automatically depicted in their environment.... Show more

The art employed in its design is something that leaves a lot to be asked. The symbolism
employed in its design such as the three stones to represent Buddha and the raked sand to
represent water flow is something that brings out the aesthetic value of the gardens. Beauty in its
general meaning is not just something or someone that looks good on the face of it. Beauty
should be able to speak for itself in a way that can be understood not by anyone but only by those
whom it is designed to communicate to leaving the rest of the world guessing. The Japanese
gardens have not failed under this definition. They speak a lot on the Japanese culture but only the
Japanese understand it. The rest of the world only marvel at its uniqueness while at the same time
understanding close to nothing on the very meaning of the Japanese gardens. That to me is

Roles Of Animals In Medieval Times
In the Middle Ages from the 12th to 14th centuries, animal books, or bestiaries, depicted and
explained the roles of animals in natures. However, these books had greater significance than
merely providing necessary knowledge for the survival of these wild peoples as the medieval
period in Europe was primarily and intensely Christian, the bestiaries carried a distinctly religious
connotation as well. The Physiologus, the most widely distributed book in Europe after the Bible,
not only describes mythical and real animals, but also explains why they exist. For example, just
as Christ revived humanity with his blood after three days in his grave, the beautiful pelican can
revive her perished young after three days with her own blood. God, as creator, purposefully
designed his creatures to reflect his teachings and thus, nature and the bestiary tradition is God s...

Equality 7-2521 Research Paper
Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers
Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a
blessed thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to
stand by his own convictions. In Ayn Rands novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient
being. Equality has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the
Council that determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book,
encompassing the idea that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is
an individual in a communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... Show

Equality is often locked in the cellar as a child, more so than the other children, for being taller
and more intelligent than his teachers. In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from
[your] brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality
multiple times by his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being
intelligent. He often understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even
completed the curriculum. Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom
than the many Scholars who are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54).
Equality is one of the smartest mortals in his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is
more intellectual than members of the Home of the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers
justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a sinister motive because his intelligence could
lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if citizens decide to depend upon the man

Jack s Transformation In Lord Of The Flies Essay
As time progresses on the island without a real system of order, human nature takes over in many
of the boys, starting with Jack. Although it does not last, at the beginning of the novel even Jack
agrees with Ralph saying that they need to have rules and obey them (Golding 42). This helps
display the dramatic transformation the boys go through to eventually become full fledged savages.
Golding allows this transformation to happen in what seems like an unsettlingly fast amount of
time. It shows how quick humans can go from being functioning parts of society to savages that act
like animals without any regard for right and wrong. This makes one think about civilizationin
general. It raises the question of how close society as a whole is to falling apart. Most would say
that it comes down to individual ethics and morals. If more individuals lean on... Show more content

someone to rescue them, keeping a signal fire lit at all times is their best shot. Jack seemingly
does not care about this at all. He and his group abandon the fire and go hunting for pigs
(Golding #). This is quite alarming as he has already lost sight of getting off the island. Roger kills
Piggy with a boulder that simultaneously destroys the conch, leaving Ralph as the only
representation of civilization in any form (Golding 180 181). Ralph is one of the few alive that
cares and understands that civilization and order are important. He strives to save the group, but he
cannot save the group unless they help themselves. Instead of being productive and unable to get

Persian Gulf War Analysis
The Persian Gulf War is also known as Americans Operation Desert storm. It was one of the most
major events in American history from 1990 to 1991. The Americans fought in this war and had a
great excuse for conquering Kuwait. The Gulf War was upraised by Saddam s violent tendencies
in ordering an invasion of Kuwait. The nation large oil reserves had canceled a large debt that Iraq
owed to Kuwait. Iraq also had an expansion of power in the region. On August 3 the United
Nations Security Council called for Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait, and on August 6 the council

Saddam Hussein felt smothered, and unable to find money to repay the other Arab states for
Iraq s previous war with Iran. The only way for Iraq to obtain revenue was through oil exports.
Kuwait, who didn t need the extra revenue, was overproducing which drove prices down, and
drove Saddam s frustration up (Wilson, 1995). Enough time has elapsed to study the economic
impact of the Gulf War on the region. Most of the economic costs were incurred by Iraq. Losses
in military equipment alone totaled over $50 billion (Wilson, 1995). The time and effort needed
to repair the damage and build replacement facilities will take years to accomplish. This will also
be difficult for Iraq because of the pending arms embargo on the state. The economic position
may be easier for Kuwait, although the impact is still hard felt. The most expansive damage was
that inflicted upon the oil installations. Overall, the costliest damage was the environmental
disaster caused by the oil slicks, which cost more the $700 million to clean up (Wilson, 1995).
From 1991 1992, Kuwait s oil industry severely deteriorated and suffered a massive drop in
production due the destruction of their oil wells. Kuwait s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
increased as a result of its growing oil industry. Namely, oil exports were on the rise once again.

Along with the false message of beauty, there is this idea that your life can just magically
become better with the snap of your fairy god mothers fingers. The problem with this idea is that
there is no such thing as a fairy god mother in real life. There should not be a single woman out
there who waits on someone else to make their future better Fairy tales are more fables that
transform lives with supernatural events. Modern versions of Cinderella grant her wishes
without requiring her to take all active role in determining her future (Coady, 2009 Pg 4). Every
girl should be taking steps today to become a better person and improve her live for tomorrow.
Over generations, fairy tales and folk stories have given the wrong impression to their audiences
and since they are classics these stories are continuously passed down. Every young girl can
remember a times in their life when Cinderella was, indeed, the women they wanted to become.
The fancy dresses, marvelous lifestyle, and a Prince Charming to keep them safe. Even though
there is many different versions of this story, the same message is clear throughout all of them.
Each country or culture may change a few minor details within the fairy tale, but the men always
manage to save the women and become the hero. In a sense, this story is teaching girls all over the
world that they cannot be independent or successful on their own. In reality, this is incorrect,
women of all ages can be successful and support

A Brief Note On California s Water Crisis
The case study that I will be analyzing and responding to is a major environmental issue in many
areas, especially with the state of California. California s water crisis is a major issue that has
brought the attention to many people to try to fix the problem. With the Central Valley being the
agricultural capital of the world, the current droughtissue that we are facing is not only historic, but
also very alarming for several reasons. With the current record breaking drought in California, there
are three factors that are said to be the reasons for causing the drought, which includes rising
temperatures, shortage of water from the Colorado River, and depletion in groundwater
(Macdonald, 2015). With rising temperatures over the years, the environmental changes that occur
with this are an increase in evaporation, which is taking water from reservoirs and other sources
where irrigation is coming from. With climate change with higher temperatures, this is taking away
water that is needed to water the many crops that produce vegetation that is distributed all across
the United States. The threatening of water supplies, especially here in the state of California is an
issue that is very much real and is something that should not be ignored. The second concern that
comes with the water crisisin California comes from the Colorado River water shortage. With the
Colorado River being the greatest source of water for all of Southern California, the source of
water has declined

Differences Between Western Hills And O Health Maintenance...
Differences:
Western Hills: o Health maintenance is typically focused on podiatry at the clinic. The podiatrists
at Western Hills have recommendations for patients regarding foot care and the main
recommendation emphasized was that the patients should not wear flip flops. This prevents
unnecessary foot problems and can be prevented by wearing supportive shoes. They also
emphasized the importance of well fitting shoes. o Many patient s will only discuss their foot care
needs, however, the nurse in this setting should be aware of other important health topics to help
prevent illness. Since the patient feels like they are unable to ask other questions regarding health
issues, this often prevents a teachable moment from occurring to help prevent future problems. For
example, if the patient states that they have diabetes but are unaware that diabetic patients take a
longer time to heal and may acquire infections easier because of this, the nurse would be able to
provide the diabetic patient with ways to prevent sores on the feet. However, since the patient may
not correlate diabetes to the feet, this moment of health maintenance teaching may not occur.
Hospital: o Information is always being provided to patients at the hospital to prevent illness and
prevent current health problems from progressing. For example, if a patient comes to the hospital
for a COPD exacerbation and the nurse becomes aware that the patient smokes a pack of cigarettes
a day, the nurse will provide

Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate By Laura Esquivel
The Journey to Self Actualization No human being is completely free. Individuals values, ideas
and identities are influenced, and to a certain degree, shaped by the cultures and societies they
live in. However, by realizing identity, an individual can find a sense of independence, which
subsequently leads towards self actualization. In the novel Like Water for Chocolate , by Laura
Esquivel, the protagonist, Tita, faces her journey from a young, submissive daughter to a strong,
independent woman who is eventually able to achieve self actualization, which is reflected in her
non traditional sense of identity and independence, and is something that not only ties in with
Maslow s hierarchy of needs, but I can relate myself to as well. Self actualization refers to the
desire to achieve one s greatest potential or as Maslow writes what a man can be, he must be
(Maslow). Abraham Maslow, a researcher and a pioneer in the field of psychology, strongly
believed that people can control their own behavior and have the abilities to reach their full
potential. Maslow is perhaps best known for his Hierarchy of Needs that culminates in self
actualization. This hierarchy begins with so called basic needs psychological, safety, social, and
esteem and concludes with the growth need . Among other characteristics, Maslow describes self
actualized people as highly creative, independent, genuine individuals who are resistant to
enculturation and accept themselves for who

The Dividing Lien of Plato s Allegory of the Cave Essay
Plato s allegory of the cave, located in Book VII of The Republic is one of the most famous
allegories in which he has created. This simile touches base on a number of philosophical ideas
which Plato developed over the progression of The Republic (Plato, G.M.A Grube, 1993), the
most noticeable being the dividing line. The dividing line is the point between the world of ideas
where we live and the world of the forms which is in the heavens. This allegory of the cave helps
people understand the theory on which philosophyis based. It is also in this Book where the
education of the guardians is outlined. We are asked in Book VII of The Republic to imagine a
group of people sitting inside a cave, with their hands and feet bound. It is by... Show more content

When the prisoner turns his head towards the light of the fire his eyes hurt him and he is
confused because he is unable to see the objects of the shadows he had been subjected to his
entire life. It is because of this pain and confusion that the prisoner wishes to return to the life
that he is accustomed to, and the reality he knows, the world of the shadows. We are asked to
envision the stubbornness displayed by this prisoner to leave the world of the shadows, a
stubbornness which causes him to be dragged into the sunlight. Upon seeing the light of the sun
the prisoner is temporarily blinded, unable to see anything around him, blinding him more than
when he was a prisoner of the cave. Eventually the prisoner s vision adjusts and he is able to see
more clearly. His mind will first be able to recognize the shadows, then moving on to reflections
of objects in the water, and lastly the objects themselves. This new sight leads the prisoner to
question the colours and objects around him. He questions what it is that causes him to being able
to see all the things he can, compared to only seeing poor reflections of objects in the cave. The
prisoner eventually concludes that it is the sun which illuminates all around him and is the source
of his sight. This now knowledgeable individual remembers the others who are still trapped in the
cave ignorant to the wonders which lay outside of it. He considers him self lucky to

Lenin s Contribution to Marxism up to 1905 and the Consequences
Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote the Communist Manifesto, which encouraged
workers to unite and seize power by revolution. His views became known as Marxism and
influenced the thinking of socialists throughout Europe in the late nineteenth and twentieth
centuries.
Marx believed that history was evolving in a series of stages towards a perfect state Communism.
These stages started with Feudalism with the aristocrats controlling politics. Next would come
Capitalism with the bourgeoisie in control of politics. Finally the perfect state would arrive

The idea of the paper was to establish it as the leading underground revolutionary paper that would
push forward the revolutionary movement.
In 1902 he published a pamphlet called What is to be done? This pamphlet contained his radical
ideas towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In this pamphlet, there were three main points that
Lenin made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party.
An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is
revolutionary activity… This organisation must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret
as possible.
This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out
and do something for the party rather than sit around and do nothing to help the cause of the party.
This idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP.
Lenin also stated;
The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy,
strictest choice of members, training of professional revolutionaries.
Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn t want the country to know that there was a
revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt against the current government.
The third major point that Lenin made in his pamphlet was;
We must break completely with the tradition of a purely workers or

Gender Expectations Essay
Before we are born and actually take that first breath of air into the world, Society and our family
prepares us to play our role as a male child or female child, leading into adult hood. When the
parents are told by the doctors whether or not it is a boy or girl; we as a society plan for our
showers, to coordinate with the sex of the baby. If it is a femalechild, the decorations for the
shower are mainly pink, and if the sex of the child is a male child, the decorations are of course
mainly blue. Female children are given dolls, tea sets, and pretend kitchens. Little girls are trained
to nurture, take care, and be beautiful. Little boys usually receive sports equipment, toy cars, and

Is it because the child is a male child, one may assume that football is definitely something the
little boy should be interested in? When we start grade school there are many different groups
that are available for us to become a part of. There is rarely a football, baseball, or basketball
team available for a little girl to join at such a young age. It is automatically assumed that because
of the roles we are expected to play, that only the little boys would be interested in these types of
sports. At such a young age, we have experienced gender inequality in sports. Little girls are then
forced to join cheerleader teams. Early on, little girls are trained to stay in the background, and
cheer on the men. They are forced to sit in the bleachers, stand on the sidelines, and be that
nurturing, supportive woman that they will soon enough be in their adulthood. The litte girls are
put in their cute little cheerleading costumes, getting all dressed up to play their leading roles.
While cheerleading is considered to be a sport, since it is mainly a woman s sport it is not showed
the respect it should. There are boys that may join the cheerleading sport as well. When this
happens society automatically stereotypes and may consider that boy to be homosexual. Society
needs to accept the different sports that both men and women can compete in, not letting gender
become the main factor. Women should be able to participate

For Any Inner City and Rural Area Summarise the Contrasts...
There are key differences in the characteristics of the Isle of Purbeck in South East Dorset and
Byker Ward in Newcastle upon Tyne; such as the housing type, ethnicity, age structure, wealth,
employment and services unsurprisingly many are interlinked. These also have had key effects on
social welfare; which lead to further contrasts between the two areas. Social welfare measures the
well being of communities shown through jobs, housing, health care and education.
The most significant contrast is the housing type. Byker Grove is an inner city electoral ward in
Newcastle upon Tyneconsisting of council housing for many decades, whilst the Isle of Purbeck is
largely private/owner occupied. In the 1960s, Byker had exclusively small ... Show more content on

This contrasts significantly to the type of housing in the Isle of Purbeck where 73.7% is owner
occupied. Further, in the last decade house prices have risen above the national average due to
competition from second homeowners, retirees and in migrants. For example, property at
Sandbanks is the 4th most expensive in the world. The situation is made worse by the fact that
employment opportunities in the area are limited. Only 7.7% is council housing in recent times
only 2 small Housing Association developments in Corfe Castle have been planned to deal with
this. Therefore, this has a key effect on social welfare. It results in a richer population, with high
demand for private healthcare and farm/organic shops. In contrast, Byker is likely to have very
few high end shops as a result of income being low resulting in a reliance on state services, and
the creation of what Edwina Curry saw as food deserts ; meaning very little healthy food options
due to the dominance of cheap, fast food outlets. In turn, this is likely to increase obesity and
lower life expectancy reducing social welfare further. In contrast, organic/farm shops in the Isle of
Purbeck are likely to have the opposite effect raising life expectancy.
Another contrast is seen in the age structure of the two areas. Whilst the Isle of Purbeck has a
population where over 20% are over 65 and 18.6% are retied, Byker Ward has a much more evenly
distributed age

Essay about The Role of Humanism in the Poems of E.E....
It can be said that poetry is very much like its poet, seeing as they both contain two different sides:
one that is seen while taking your very first glance and another that can only be unearthed and
understood through the study of its underlying influences. So it is not unusual that in order to gain
a complete and comprehensive outlook on a poem, one must first study nonfiction sources to see
the motivation and purpose behind each chosen word. E.E. Cumming s works, a notable World War
Iera poet of the modernist movement, were heavily affected by the hatred and atrocities of warfare,
which is seen in the way that his resentment towards humanity grows within this period, and thusly
reflects in the poems he created around this time. One of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What gives the largest intimation as to the complete message of Cummings poem is the clearly
evident satirical tone that Cummings often uses when the subject matter of his poem is something
that disgusts him. Cummings writes,
Humanity i love you/ because you would rather black the boots of/ success than enquire whose soul
dangles from his/ watch chain which would be embarrassing for both/ parties... (Cummings 1 5)
Here, Cummings basically, with much added sarcasm, says he loves how humanity would rather
shine and maintain a rich aristocrat s shoes rather than think of the many commoners who are under
his beck and call. Such a habit of subjecting a person to the members of the higher class is not an
action deserving praise, which outlines the use of satire within this first example Cummings uses.
Cummings continues in another stanza with the use of his sardonic speech. Humanity i love you
because/ when you re hard up you pawn your/ intelligence to buy a drink ... (Cummings 9 11). Such
a statement chastises humanity for degrading themselves to drinking and defiling their intelligence
when they are having a hard time, which further contradicts the Humanity i love you... he uses to
begin each statement. Both these devices of using capitalization for emphasis of the word
Humanity and of the cynical tone depicted in the word choice both make up the theme of this
poem: that ultimately, the fortunate are irreverent and that society s

Music During The 19th Century
For thousands of years, music has been a significant part of daily life. Spanning through time, we
have seen an incalculable amount of talented musicians that have transformed our world;
unfortunately, a copious amount of their work was unable to be captured as the technology was not
advanced enough. It wasn t until around 200 years that we were finally able to uphold a copy.
Within the past century, there have been multiple improvements to the process of recording music;
one of the most important is the invention of vinyl.
During the 19th century, the invention of vinyl began. Inventors tried various renditions of disc
records, but many of them suffered a high level of surface noise. In 1930, RCA Victor was the
first company to launch a vinyl music record to the public; however, there was still ... Show more

This creation started the never ending process of improving the recording device. Throughout the
past fifty years, there have been products such as cassette tapes, 8 tracks, and CD s that have
further improved the sound and convenience of music recording devices. Instead of a 12 inch
vinyl record, we are now able to listen to music through an application on our cellular devices. All
of this was made possible through the invention of a vinyl music record.
Vinyl records will always be remembered as an iconic creation for the music industry and world as
a whole. This development brought music into the homes of millions of individuals for them to
enjoy. It provided musicians with a new, major profit which supported many struggling. While
vinyl records may be seen as a thing of the past, they have made a monumental comeback in
2013, increasing by 52%. Currently, over 9 million units are sold annually. In the digital age,
vinyl records are still adored by millions of individuals and will continue to be for many years to

  • 2. Reflection Of APA Style Writing First of all I would like to thank you for the time and hard work you put in this semester to teach my classmates and me. This semester I learned a lot in your class such as APA style writing, how to write different format essays and Bloom s Taxonomy. In your course I not only learned how to become a better learner but also a better person. I still remember how nervous I was feeling the first day of class. This was my first semester attending college, which made me feel worse. Since the first day I came into your class I was expecting this course to help me improve my writingskills in English one specific assignment that I consider to be helpful in my writing skills was the thesis tweeter assignment . I consider spelling to be my greatest weakness in writing because my first language is Spanish and I have a lot of trouble learningEnglish. In this letter I will let you know what I learned and how I have met the program s standards of focus, development and clarity because I have practice APA style, writing assays and using Bloom s Taxonomy When I was in my senior year of high school, I learned a little about writing in APA style. In your course I learned that I was making some mistakes when I thought I was using APA style the correct way. Something that I considered to be very helpful for me was getting the help from the librarian on how to use APA style using different kind of sources such as books, newspapers and videos. The yellow sheet he gave us in his presentation was allot of help throughout the semester because I would always use it when It was time to do writing assignments. Learning how to properly use Apa style was very helpful for me because now I apply those skills on my assignments and I do a better job than before. Now I feel way more comfortable and confident while writing. Before learning the proper way of using APA style I was always unsure If I was giving credit to the sources I was using. I m planning on applying this writing skill in and out of class to have a clear and smooth writing when It gets to give credit to sources. Throughout the semester we practice literature by writing several essays such as diagnostic, narrative, current event and common exit essay. In all these four essays ... In Great Britain, the Theft Act of 1968 is an Act of the Parliament of the UK. It governs most of the general property offenses in English law. Theft is defined as a person shall be guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A decision will be drawn from here. This process is characteristic of the inquisitorial model. In a case of theft, such as petty theft, it is considered a misdemeanor and under civil law it would involve investigation by civil servants called procurators (Law and Society, p 57). The case would be tried under civil law and a defendant in civil litigation is never incarcerated and never executed. A losing defendant in a civil litigation is only expected to reimburse the plaintiff for the goods stolen. Punitive damages are usually never awarded unless the defendant had malicious intent or gross negligence. If damages are awarded and the defendant does not have assets or insurance, the plaintiff will receive nothing even though the court awarded monetary damages (http://www.rbs2.com/cc.htm). Identify any other factors for consideration. Would the fact that your friend is female impact her treatment under the law in this country? In France, the fact that she is a female would not have an impact on the outcome of her crime. The same process would apply whether she is female or male. In civil law, the wrongdoer is not punished; he only suffers so much harm as is necessary to make good the wrong he or she has done (http://www.rbs2.com /cc.htm). The criminal label you would have imposed upon you seems to be suffering enough, for most, under civil law. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. An Environmental Assessment ( Ea ) For Maryland Gas ... QUESTION PRESENTED Did FERC s issuance of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and corresponding Finding of no Significant Impact (FONSI) for Maryland Gas 400 Line pipeline project violate NEPA? Should the Sierra Club sue FERC over this issue? SHORT ANSWER Yes. FERC s EA violated NEPA s requirement to consider the cumulative and indirect impacts of a proposed project. While FERC did consider some indirect impacts of the 400 Line project, FERC failed to analyze the 400 Line in conjunction with two connected pipeline projects: the 500 Line and the 600 Line. FERC s fragmented analysis violates NEPA s requirement that environmental review consider interdependent parts of a larger action (40 C.F.R. В§ 1508.25a). Other potential objections to FERC s EA, including the project s effects on endangered species and FERC s failure to analyze certain alternative arrangements, have a smaller and less certain likelihood of legal success. FERC provided a reasoned explanation for most of their choices, and will thus receive generous deference from any reviewing court on those issues. FERC, though, failed to mention either of the two related pipeline projects in the EA, so the Sierra Club will have a strong case that FERC did not meet the requirement, cited in Robertson v. Methow Valley Citizens Council, 490 U.S. 332 (1989), to take a hard look at the environmental consequences of the 400 Line pipeline. FACTS See prompt. • 5. Masculinity In The Film Ripley s Aliens While Ripley manages to use the technology, machinery and weaponry to defeat the aliens, she tries to be as inventive and resourceful as possible to distinguish herself from the militarised approach of the marines. And so when the marines start to be wiped out one by one by the aliens, Ripley decides to take on a leadership role because no one would listen to her at first and doesn t want to feel responsible for any more deaths. At this point in the film, she destroys any fantasy version or perception of what men want in women. We fully now know how Ripley is a person. She is pushy, aggressive, rude, injured, suffering from PTSD, doesn t wear makeup, tired, smart, motherly, angry, empathetic, and determined to save others, even at great cost to herself which makes her character all the more heroic and masculine as a majority of these attributes hold connotations with masculinity.... During the Reagan era in American society of the 1980s, there were more opportunities for middle class college graduates and women for work as there was a rise in rise of hi tech firms, finance and retail. Where as for men, the decline in heavy industry made it hard for men to find high paid full time work in industry, in which so many working class men joined the military. Yet Ripley with all these male attributes can relate more to men in the Reagan era. James Cameron rewrites Ripley as an action hero, as Aliens (1986) is a military expedition/combat film. At the same time, the political climate of the Reagan era informed the film s conservative revision of Ripley into a socially authorized female role: the mother Ellen Ripley . (Gallardo C. Smith, 2004: 10) Even tough she has all these male attributes to her personality, there is one thing that keeps a part of her feminine and it s the maternal instinct she has for Newt throughout the ... A New Form Of Energy Oil drove the industrial revolution and brought civilization a step forward, but so much money should not be spent on something that is quickly running out or that is doubling in price. Oil has brought civilization towards greatness, developed countries, and even brought them back from the brink of poverty. Society has lived off of fossil fuels for the past hundred years powering cities and driving it forward towards great innovations. Oil supply is decreasing and with the great number of oil dependence in this country, some of the American people s hope that the new bill called the Keystone XL project is pass in order to help Americans resupply their oil. According to Valerie Volcovici of the Chicago Tribune, the Keystone XL project will pipeline Canada to the United States and be able to bring down oil shale or oil sand down to our refineries for processing, oil shale is basically oil stuck between the pores of sand and rock (Volcovici). This project will not only be expensive, it will also be bad for the environment, In order to get the oil shale, one must strip the land of its entire soil foundation which causes mass environment and land change. This bill would also be hypocritical of president Barack Obama. In the president s inaugural address, he stated that America s growing price on gas, its dependence, as well as the issue of global climate change. His plans on passing this bill, all that he stated would be implausible. With many people supporting and opposing the president s bill, this is the one of the most scrutinized infrastructure project in our nation s history, according to the president of building and construction, Sean McGarvey (qtd. In the drama Romeo and Juliet they were star crossed lovers which means that they are destined to never be together. Throughout the drama you can see that their love didn t run smooth. In the matter of four days, Romeo and Juliet were married, Romeo was banished, and they both killed themselves. Throughout the whole drama, the Nurse was always there for Juliet. Juliet and the Nurse have two kinds of love. They have storge and philia love. Philia is friend love and storge is family love. The Nurse raised Juliet from a baby. In that time the richer women would do nothing and they would have servants and nurses to do everything for them. In the scene III Act I the Nurse talked about how she remembers when Juliet was born and how she was the prettiest baby she had every nursed. She also talked about how she thinks that Juliet is too young to start talking about marriage even though Lady Capulet was married around the same age as juliet. • 10. Friendship In John Knowles s A Separate Peace In life, a person is never able to stay in contact with every person they have met. An acquaintance is no exception to this idea; friends will come and go, and this is inevitable. Sometimes a companion will move away, never to be seen again, cut themselves off, never to be heard from again, or pass away, never to do anything again. One bad occurrence can make or break a relationship. It all depends on whether the resolution of it will cement a life long friendshipor a lifelong schism. Any relationship can be complicated, to the point of making no sense at all. This is similar to what John Knowles writes about on his novel, A Separate Peace. Knowles writes of one of his main characters, Gene Forrester, experiencing some of the themes above. Gene causes his friend Finny s leg to be broken, and Knowles uses the resulting events to convey the idea that a friendship does not always have to make sense for it to exist. In nearly every major interaction involving Gene, he consistently exhibits behavior which would certainly sabotage his relationship with Finny and other peers. He harbors harsh and strong emotions, which eventually do make themselves clear to the person they belong to. For example, Gene begins a conspiracy against Finny, thinking, Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies (53). Even after Finny eventually resolves the complications between himself and Gene, he still falls victim to Gene s latent emotions a short moment after the reconciliation. In a ... I have noticed in my class Science lessons, they often engage in learning through a document camera presentation, computer lab activity, IPad research, PowerPoints, and educational videos. My CT tried to use various types of conceptdelivery to keep his students engaged in the concept being taught. When the students were learning about lifecycles of animals, the students were taught with all of the different types of technology listed. My CT would use a document camera or a PowerPoint to teach his Science lessons. The document camera allowed the teacher to display opaque worksheets, pictures, and stories to the whole class so that they were able to follow along. One day, my CT was talking about the life cycle of a sharks and he wanted to show the class an article from a National Geographic weekly that talked about sharks and human interactions. The document camera allowed the teacher to display the article and its pictures to the whole class at once instead of trying to talk about it while the students passed around the magazine article. By using technology in Science, the teacher was able to keep his students involved in the content instead of having students become disengaged due to worrying about where the magazine is and where it s going. • 12. The American Of American History Learning about American history is an extremely fascinating topic. It s intriguing how our great nation developed and changed throughout history. From wars to treaties, it s all essential in understanding how our nation has grown to be what it is now. In our ever growing society today, immigrants are migrating to this nation with hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams that lead them to live a better and more prosperous life. The United Statesof America is known as big melting pot . This melting pot that they refer to is an integration of nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities during the 1980 s. This term came into use in the 1780 s. Multiculturalism has always played a vital role in shaping our society. It is defined as the historical evolution of cultural diversity within a jurisdiction. The jurisdiction being the United States. With this in mind, it is evident that the idea of an American dream did influence immigration over the course of our nation s history. For any American citizen, living the American Dream is an essential part. It is what they want to be a part of. Citizens feel entitled to live the American Dream because they it s become so important in this country to become successful. This has been part of American social issues for a very long time and continues to be an issue now, in the present day. American Dream? Well, what exactly is an American dream? Is it an idea? The Increasing Application of Scientific Management Principles Of Work Organisations To Services Is, Despite Its Limitations, Inevitable and Irreversible. IIntroduction From the outset of this essay it is necessary to define the basic principles of Scientific Management in order for the statement to be fully understood and why if at all such a practice is В‘inevitable and indeed В‘irreversible within a service industry context. The underlying belief that scientific management, or rationalisation= , is able to provide the basis for separating management from the execution of work. Within the service sector there is often more labour and less capital. This В‘human emphasis greatly limits the application of scientific management principles. Targett (1995) has identified seven distinctive characteristics that highlight the limitations of applying scientific management principles and therefore raising doubts over the В‘inevitability of such management practices being used in the service sector. Measurement of output and performance is difficult. Quality of service cannot be measured solely by easily quantifiable data, such as revenue and sales volume alone. For example, the performance of a health care organisation is a combination not only of financial results and patient throughput but also of quality of care, the effectiveness of preventative measures and many other factors The product is not tangible. Amongst the many effects of this are that quality control is not straight forward. For example checking the quality of car manufacture is a lot clearer task than checking the quality of service given at a hotels reception desk. Production and consumption are usually simultaneous. A particular implication of this is that there can be no inventory of the service itself, therefore not allowing В‘systematic observation nor measurement. For example, a shop assistant s advice to a customer cannot be stored. Hales (1994) has suggested that where the end product is tailored to specific customer wants, the ... Throughout my life I have been interested in protecting the environment, many different avenues of art expression, and the cultural roots of mountain people. Now, all of those subjects are covered in The Encyclopedia of Appalachia, but I can go further to tie all of those subjects into the main topic of agriculture, specifically sustainable agriculture, which I just so happen to be majoring in (convenient, huh?). My appreciation for these mountains have grown so much that I want to choose a life that will work mutualistically with the mountains to not only accept the bounty they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vast mountain ranges and rocky cliffs come to mind. Those are both some obvious factors as to why agricultural practices may be hard in the region, but other than physical boundaries, what are the difficulties of growing in this mountainous region? I will surely need to know these if I plan to make a living off of growing in the mountains. My fascination for how native tribes work with the land raised the question of what crops were originally grown/are native, in Appalachia prior to the European invasion bringing about other crops. Were these new crops brought in essential for a growing population or were they destructive to the soil, being invasive plants? Tying into the idea of native crops, I would love to look more into the herbs found within the forests of Appalachia. Wanting to be a doula and homesteader, I have found interest in researching the benefits of medicinal herbs on the pains of childbirth. Finding those herbs right here in Appalachia would be ideal. The encyclopedia had a section entirely on mushrooms. I did not dive into what it said because at this point I am just seeking questions. I am wondering, however, why do mushrooms grow well here? Is it simply because of the thick canopy of the forest providing ample shade or do these mountains contain particular nutrients necessary for mushroom growth? My father has always shown an interest in growing shiitake mushrooms. I have never spoken to him about what sparked his interest, but living in the Cherokee National Forest, which is neighboring the Appalachian Mountains, I could find this information ... Recently there is a huge new trend of becoming as thin and fit as possible and thinking this is how one becomes beautiful. No one actually knows where this idea has emerged from. In the past big has been known as being healthy and beautiful. Take for instance Marilyn Monroe, she was the pin up girl for many men and wasn t exactly thin to today s standards. Today s celebrities wear sizes 0 2 and are the supposed poster girls of what beautiful looks like. There are many factors that are causing people young and old to get caught up in the new health and fitness craze. One of these factors affecting almost everyone is the media. Celebrities are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have elevated the pursuit of a lean, fat free body into a new religion (Seid, 498). Her point is trying to bring across how people are beginning to live their lives around being as thin and fit as physically possible. They eat breathe and sleep this new fitness craze and follow all the rules as if they were the 10 commandments. There is no clear reason why the media is promoting this extreme slenderness other than many people are so deathly afraid of becoming fat that they would do anything to avoid it. Advertisements are promoting unhealthy weight loss and crazy gimmicks such as diet pills. Despite almost universal criticism following weight loss programs and an epidemic of dangerous eating disorders, people continue to spend billions of dollars yearly on weight loss products and services. This unrelenting pressure to be thin is driven by diet, fashion, cosmetic, fitness and pharmaceutical industries. These industries promote their products with financial rewards and unreachable expectation for all, especially women. The fashion industry affects everyone. When one walks into a clothing store the nice clothes are found in smaller sizes. Different stores are for larger women and men to find clothes to fit their body types. fashion is not just about the clothes you wear these days as Seid states, fashionable beauty is no longer about the clothes covering the body, but about the naked body itself (Seid, ... Each in their own way, all of these songs are about pain and sadness caused by break ups. Some of these songs are meant to cause an already sad person to cope with their sadness by pushing them farther into The Abyss . A few are meant to touch on the happier memories of the relationship giving someone hope that they will love again. All of these songs, through their lyrics, structure, and rhythm, are all meant to cope with a person s sadness that results from a break up. Paris by the Chainsmokers is a song that reflects on the happy side of a relationship that is rarely seen in break ups. The song is essentially the writer remembering a relationship with fondness. It tells the tale of two young lovers on their own and in love who eventually break apart. It also touches on happy memories like the lyrics We were staying in paris,/ to get away from your parents (Chainsmokers, 1 2). With sales of their once famed laptops and PCs quickly declining, their market share has taken a hit as a result. Lenovo and HP are not only to blame for Dell s demise, Apple and Google have established new markets for smartphones and tablets that has shifted demand to these new toys away from laptops/PCs. These new disruptive technologies are a cheaper and thus more accessible substitute to the old guard (laptops and PCs). From the ROIC chart shown below, it can be seen that Dell s ROIC has decreased from 2008 to 2010 and increased in 2011 by about 10%. However, the ROIC is projected to decrease to 2014 and then remain stable @ 20% for the next 10 years. Based on the APV and comparable multiples valuation, it can be seen that the future of Dell looks bleak as it stands today. The Personal Computers (PC) industry is not a great industry to invest in unless you are ready to innovate and adapt to the changing demands of consumers. Adding this to the fact that consumers are slowing moving away from PCs to smartphones and tablets makes it a no brainer for Dell to make significant changes to its business model as soon as possible DEAL STRUCTURE Dell s 2013 interest coverage ratio has decreased from about 44 in 2011 to 17.6. The Contribution of the Supernatural to Richard III Essay The Contribution of the Supernatural to Richard III During the Renaissance period people were very superstitious and England on a whole was an extremely religious country; people believed in both God and the Devil and Heaven and Hell. They also believed in prophecies, supernatural and curses. A modern audience would have reacted very differently to the play than a Shakespearean audience. The events contained within Richard III must have seemed very real to a Shakespearean audience as it depicts the historical events of the rise and fall of Richard III. For a Shakespearean audience these events happened only a century earlier. To a modern audience it is viewed as what it is, a dramatisation of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Richard III is a play based upon the dramatisation of history. The supernatural is an event that depends upon the superseding of the laws of nature, an event which cannot occur naturally in our world under any circumstances with or without the assistance of any natural being. Only God, or the Devil, has the power to cause supernatural events to occur. Richard III deals with supernatural elements such as curses, devils, dreams and witchcraft. I believe supernatural elements were included in Richard III to add a sense of dread that matches the malice of Richard, to show that divine nemesis exists. Shakespeare created Richard as a machiavellian who takes delight in governing through fear and force. He is a character of sheer evil; however Shakespeare provides a contrast to Richard s villainy via the voices of the female characters. Margaret and Anne contribute by predicting the dire consequences of Richard s acts; they also express their intense hatred through curses. The most common use of supernatural by Shakespeare within Richard III is curses. Curses are magic spells placed upon people with the intention of harm. The desired affect of curses can range from illness to death. Curses are commonly associated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each formed their own democracy that helped shape the way people think about American government and continually held their own ideologies. Consequently, the ideologies the two presidents supported were changed also at many points throughout their terms. The continuities and changes of their ideologies will be examined throughout this paper Thomas Jefferson was a towering personality who wrote the declaration of American Independence and became the third President of the country. He was the founder of the Democratic Republican Party and even served as the Secretary of State in the cabinet of George Washington. He was first elected President in 1801 and is known as the President who purchased Louisiana from France. During his second term, he passed a bill that banned the import of slaves into the country. His vision contained many philosophical principles, which allowed him to believe that the will of the people provided the best results when it came to directing the government. (UShistory.org, 2012) Jackson was the 7th President of the US and considered as a great democratic President by the historians. He is hailed for his role in protecting liberty and democracy. Without any historical, social or political context, the fundamental reasons that evoke political participation are usually lost. Eventually, notions of the citizen activist become generalized across social and political spectrums. For youth, modern discourses surrounding activism lacks the differentiation between citizen and activist. As a result, the many underlying reasons for political participation become almost invisible. In the book, Jacqueline Kennelly explores the importance of what it means to be a certain kind of youth citizen in the twenty first century (p. 3). Furthermore, she explores how youth activism... Without understanding certain historical processes that shape notions of an idyllic citizen, like those discussed in the previous paragraph, we cannot understand the current exclusions that lead to activism. Specifically, Kennelly argues that the constraints of neoliberalism are reinforced differently through what she calls the habitus. The habitus is a system of dispositions that create certain conditions for youth activism (p. 75). In this chapter of the book, Kennelly interviews several participants to understand how the habitus acts as an influencing agent. For example, by growing up in a home that emphasizes social justice (i.e. having activist parents), an individual could be predisposed to the importance of activism (p. 79). At the same time, certain predispositions may also encourage activism. Along various racial, cultural and ethnic fault lines, activism may be encouraged for the sake of equality. Among many examples, Kennelly uses the example of Sanna, a Kenyan Canadian who feels the need to explain she is more than just Canadian based on her appearance (p. 85). In this aspect, the both habitus examples conflict in origin, yet both create a sense of social justice. The Japanese gardens are small gardens with a certain unique landscape found especially in eastern japan. The Japanese gardens apart from being archaic, are existent to date. In major countries in the world today, it is next to impossible to find practices that have existed to date bearing in mind the speedy population growth (Harry). Moreover, japan being one of the most industrialized countries in the world, one would think that the population should be thinking of more industrial expansion for the benefit of economic growth. Although each story is different, they all have similar meaning and each one demonstrates how universal the Cinderella story is, as well as how unique each version is to the particular culture out which it grew (Tam and Cam, 2012 Pg 194). Little girls all over the world are told some type of Cinderellastory and they grow up dreaming that one day they ll be a princess just like the characters in the stories. They will find their prince charming to sweep them off their feet. However, these manipulative stories tend to teach girls that they do not need to be dependent on a man to take care... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the false message of beauty, there is this idea that your life can just magically become better with the snap of your fairy god mothers fingers. The problem with this idea is that there is no such thing as a fairy god mother in real life. There should not be a single woman out there who waits on someone else to make their future better Fairy tales are more fables that transform lives with supernatural events. Modern versions of Cinderella grant her wishes without requiring her to take all active role in determining her future (Coady, 2009 Pg 4). Every girl should be taking steps today to become a better person and improve her live for tomorrow. Over generations, fairy tales and folk stories have given the wrong impression to their audiences and since they are classics these stories are continuously passed down. Every young girl can remember a times in their life when Cinderella was, indeed, the women they wanted to become. The fancy dresses, marvelous lifestyle, and a Prince Charming to keep them safe. Even though there is many different versions of this story, the same message is clear throughout all of them. Each country or culture may change a few minor details within the fairy tale, but the men always manage to save the women and become the hero. In a sense, this story is teaching girls all over the world that they cannot be independent or successful on their own. In reality, this is incorrect, women of all ages can be successful and support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. A Brief Note On California s Water Crisis The case study that I will be analyzing and responding to is a major environmental issue in many areas, especially with the state of California. California s water crisis is a major issue that has brought the attention to many people to try to fix the problem. With the Central Valley being the agricultural capital of the world, the current droughtissue that we are facing is not only historic, but also very alarming for several reasons. With the current record breaking drought in California, there are three factors that are said to be the reasons for causing the drought, which includes rising temperatures, shortage of water from the Colorado River, and depletion in groundwater (Macdonald, 2015). With rising temperatures over the years, the environmental changes that occur with this are an increase in evaporation, which is taking water from reservoirs and other sources where irrigation is coming from. With climate change with higher temperatures, this is taking away water that is needed to water the many crops that produce vegetation that is distributed all across the United States. The threatening of water supplies, especially here in the state of California is an issue that is very much real and is something that should not be ignored. The second concern that comes with the water crisisin California comes from the Colorado River water shortage. With the Colorado River being the greatest source of water for all of Southern California, the source of water has declined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Differences Between Western Hills And O Health Maintenance... Differences: Western Hills: o Health maintenance is typically focused on podiatry at the clinic. The podiatrists at Western Hills have recommendations for patients regarding foot care and the main recommendation emphasized was that the patients should not wear flip flops. This prevents unnecessary foot problems and can be prevented by wearing supportive shoes. They also emphasized the importance of well fitting shoes. o Many patient s will only discuss their foot care needs, however, the nurse in this setting should be aware of other important health topics to help prevent illness. Since the patient feels like they are unable to ask other questions regarding health issues, this often prevents a teachable moment from occurring to help prevent future problems. For example, if the patient states that they have diabetes but are unaware that diabetic patients take a longer time to heal and may acquire infections easier because of this, the nurse would be able to provide the diabetic patient with ways to prevent sores on the feet. However, since the patient may not correlate diabetes to the feet, this moment of health maintenance teaching may not occur. Hospital: o Information is always being provided to patients at the hospital to prevent illness and prevent current health problems from progressing. For example, if a patient comes to the hospital for a COPD exacerbation and the nurse becomes aware that the patient smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, the nurse will provide ... • 41. Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate By Laura Esquivel The Journey to Self Actualization No human being is completely free. Individuals values, ideas and identities are influenced, and to a certain degree, shaped by the cultures and societies they live in. However, by realizing identity, an individual can find a sense of independence, which subsequently leads towards self actualization. In the novel Like Water for Chocolate , by Laura Esquivel, the protagonist, Tita, faces her journey from a young, submissive daughter to a strong, independent woman who is eventually able to achieve self actualization, which is reflected in her non traditional sense of identity and independence, and is something that not only ties in with Maslow s hierarchy of needs, but I can relate myself to as well. Self actualization refers to the desire to achieve one s greatest potential or as Maslow writes what a man can be, he must be (Maslow). Abraham Maslow, a researcher and a pioneer in the field of psychology, strongly believed that people can control their own behavior and have the abilities to reach their full potential. Maslow is perhaps best known for his Hierarchy of Needs that culminates in self actualization. This hierarchy begins with so called basic needs psychological, safety, social, and esteem and concludes with the growth need . Among other characteristics, Maslow describes self actualized people as highly creative, independent, genuine individuals who are resistant to enculturation and accept themselves for who ... This simile touches base on a number of philosophical ideas which Plato developed over the progression of The Republic (Plato, G.M.A Grube, 1993), the most noticeable being the dividing line. The dividing line is the point between the world of ideas where we live and the world of the forms which is in the heavens. This allegory of the cave helps people understand the theory on which philosophyis based. It is also in this Book where the education of the guardians is outlined. It is because of this pain and confusion that the prisoner wishes to return to the life that he is accustomed to, and the reality he knows, the world of the shadows. We are asked to envision the stubbornness displayed by this prisoner to leave the world of the shadows, a stubbornness which causes him to be dragged into the sunlight. Upon seeing the light of the sun the prisoner is temporarily blinded, unable to see anything around him, blinding him more than when he was a prisoner of the cave. Eventually the prisoner s vision adjusts and he is able to see more clearly. His mind will first be able to recognize the shadows, then moving on to reflections of objects in the water, and lastly the objects themselves. This new sight leads the prisoner to question the colours and objects around him. He questions what it is that causes him to being able to see all the things he can, compared to only seeing poor reflections of objects in the cave. The prisoner eventually concludes that it is the sun which illuminates all around him and is the source of his sight. Lenin s Contribution to Marxism up to 1905 and the Consequences Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote the Communist Manifesto, which encouraged workers to unite and seize power by revolution. His views became known as Marxism and influenced the thinking of socialists throughout Europe in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Marx believed that history was evolving in a series of stages towards a perfect state Communism. These stages started with Feudalism with the aristocrats controlling politics. In 1902 he published a pamphlet called What is to be done? This pamphlet contained his radical ideas towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In this pamphlet, there were three main points that Lenin made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party. An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is revolutionary activity… This organisation must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret as possible. This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out and do something for the party rather than sit around and do nothing to help the cause of the party. This idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP. Lenin also stated; The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy, strictest choice of members, training of professional revolutionaries. Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn t want the country to know that there was a revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt against the current government. • 44. Gender Expectations Essay Before we are born and actually take that first breath of air into the world, Society and our family prepares us to play our role as a male child or female child, leading into adult hood. When the parents are told by the doctors whether or not it is a boy or girl; we as a society plan for our showers, to coordinate with the sex of the baby. If it is a femalechild, the decorations for the shower are mainly pink, and if the sex of the child is a male child, the decorations are of course mainly blue. Female children are given dolls, tea sets, and pretend kitchens. Little girls are trained to nurture, take care, and be beautiful. Little boys usually receive sports equipment, toy cars, and Incredible Hulks. They are trained to be strong, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it because the child is a male child, one may assume that football is definitely something the little boy should be interested in? When we start grade school there are many different groups that are available for us to become a part of. There is rarely a football, baseball, or basketball team available for a little girl to join at such a young age. It is automatically assumed that because of the roles we are expected to play, that only the little boys would be interested in these types of sports. At such a young age, we have experienced gender inequality in sports. Little girls are then forced to join cheerleader teams. Early on, little girls are trained to stay in the background, and cheer on the men. They are forced to sit in the bleachers, stand on the sidelines, and be that nurturing, supportive woman that they will soon enough be in their adulthood. The litte girls are put in their cute little cheerleading costumes, getting all dressed up to play their leading roles. While cheerleading is considered to be a sport, since it is mainly a woman s sport it is not showed the respect it should. There are boys that may join the cheerleading sport as well. When this happens society automatically stereotypes and may consider that boy to be homosexual. Society needs to accept the different sports that both men and women can compete in, not letting gender become the main factor. Women should be able to participate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. For Any Inner City and Rural Area Summarise the Contrasts... There are key differences in the characteristics of the Isle of Purbeck in South East Dorset and Byker Ward in Newcastle upon Tyne; such as the housing type, ethnicity, age structure, wealth, employment and services unsurprisingly many are interlinked. These also have had key effects on social welfare; which lead to further contrasts between the two areas. Social welfare measures the well being of communities shown through jobs, housing, health care and education. The most significant contrast is the housing type. Byker Grove is an inner city electoral ward in Newcastle upon Tyneconsisting of council housing for many decades, whilst the Isle of Purbeck is largely private/owner occupied. Further, in the last decade house prices have risen above the national average due to competition from second homeowners, retirees and in migrants. For example, property at Sandbanks is the 4th most expensive in the world. The situation is made worse by the fact that employment opportunities in the area are limited. Only 7.7% is council housing in recent times only 2 small Housing Association developments in Corfe Castle have been planned to deal with this. Therefore, this has a key effect on social welfare. It results in a richer population, with high demand for private healthcare and farm/organic shops. In contrast, Byker is likely to have very few high end shops as a result of income being low resulting in a reliance on state services, and the creation of what Edwina Curry saw as food deserts ; meaning very little healthy food options due to the dominance of cheap, fast food outlets. In turn, this is likely to increase obesity and lower life expectancy reducing social welfare further. In contrast, organic/farm shops in the Isle of Purbeck are likely to have the opposite effect raising life expectancy. Another contrast is seen in the age structure of the two areas. Whilst the Isle of Purbeck has a population where over 20% are over 65 and 18.6% are retied, Byker Ward has a much more evenly distributed age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Essay about The Role of Humanism in the Poems of E.E.... It can be said that poetry is very much like its poet, seeing as they both contain two different sides: one that is seen while taking your very first glance and another that can only be unearthed and understood through the study of its underlying influences. So it is not unusual that in order to gain a complete and comprehensive outlook on a poem, one must first study nonfiction sources to see the motivation and purpose behind each chosen word. E.E. Cumming s works, a notable World War Iera poet of the modernist movement, were heavily affected by the hatred and atrocities of warfare, which is seen in the way that his resentment towards humanity grows within this period, and thusly reflects in the poems he created around this time. One of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What gives the largest intimation as to the complete message of Cummings poem is the clearly evident satirical tone that Cummings often uses when the subject matter of his poem is something that disgusts him. Cummings writes, Humanity i love you/ because you would rather black the boots of/ success than enquire whose soul dangles from his/ watch chain which would be embarrassing for both/ parties... (Cummings 1 5) Here, Cummings basically, with much added sarcasm, says he loves how humanity would rather shine and maintain a rich aristocrat s shoes rather than think of the many commoners who are under his beck and call. Such a habit of subjecting a person to the members of the higher class is not an action deserving praise, which outlines the use of satire within this first example Cummings uses. Cummings continues in another stanza with the use of his sardonic speech. Humanity i love you because/ when you re hard up you pawn your/ intelligence to buy a drink ... (Cummings 9 11). Such a statement chastises humanity for degrading themselves to drinking and defiling their intelligence when they are having a hard time, which further contradicts the Humanity i love you... he uses to begin each statement. Both these devices of using capitalization for emphasis of the word Humanity and of the cynical tone depicted in the word choice both make up the theme of this poem: that ultimately, the fortunate are irreverent and that society s ...
