3. Research
• My research was very valuable to me as it helped me to work out what I wanted to create as
my product and how I could advertise it to my suited audience. When I was creating the mind
map’s I thought it was very useful to have three ideas that I could explore and alter to make it
is as appealing as possible to my audience. Once I had done that I chose the product which I
thought would work the best and then developed it more. This helped to give me a very good
understanding on what I had to do and how I was going to do it. Mind maps were also useful
as I could return to them and make sure I am not missing anything, which would be beneficial
to my product and selling it to my audience. I felt that the mood board wasn’t as necessary in
my research as it only helped to look at picture similarities and colour schemes which I
already had an idea of due to my mind maps. Creating a survey and allowing people that had
an interest in your product give their opinion on what would make the event better and what
they would like to see in the event. This made it to easily see what would make the event
worth coming to in the eyes of the audience, this meant that I had a basic guideline of what I
had to do to make people want to go the event. If I had just got the opinions of the audience
and not analysed them It would have made it very hard to interpret what they wanted so
that helped massively with the production of my event. If I could have done something better
and improved on it, it would have been my interviews as I felt they did not help me that
much towards the event planning. I would have improved the interviews by asking more
people as I found that only two peoples opinions would not have been very much use as they
could have had different opinions to other people and made the event worse for others. If I
were to ask more people I could have had more detailed information from more people
which meant that I could compare all the answers and come up with a compromised solution
which would appeal to all my audience. I could not achieve this as if I had only 2 answers as if
I had chose one answer then the other person would not have agreed with meaning half the
people in the interview would not be happy with the outcome of the event.
4. Planning
• The pre-production PowerPoint was very useful to make sure I was not missing anything
before I created my products. I found that the colour schemes and looking at the different
types of text font helped a lot to make my products appealing. Analysing the fonts was good
to know why I was using the font and what type of message I was trying to send to my
audience. I thought that my layout plans could have a been a bit more detailed as I did not
find much use for them when it came to making the final products. I also made a last minute
change top what I was producing which made the layout plan irrelevant. If I had made more
time I would have made detailed layout plans, it would have helped to make the production
time faster which would have helped massively as I fell behind on the product I didn’t have a
layout plan for. Having a more detailed layout plan meant that I already had a guideline of
what I wanted to make which would have helped me get started faster before production
time. I found that my strength in planning was the proposal helped me to finalise my ideas
really well because when I had written down everything I wanted to make it shows me a clear
understanding of what I was creating. The proposal helped me to finalise my ideas as I was
still unsure of what I wanted to create, this meant that I had all my final ideas in one place I
could go back and have a look at what I had to do in case I forgot meaning my production was
organised and easily accessible which would mean I could focus on the detail and standard of
the products more without having any problems. The contingency planning helped me to
eliminate any problems that may occur before they did. Listing the different possibilities of
problems allowed me to aware of the problems so that they don’t happen which would set
me off schedule or loose parts of my products which would be very time consuming.
5. Time Management
• I thought I could have managed my time better as I fell behind when creating
the products as I didn’t have a very good understanding of E-booklet. falling
behind and having to rush my E-booklet to keep to deadlines made the E-
booklet look a little basic, if I would have had extra time I think my E-booklet
would have been more useful and appealing to my audience. If I also had
more time I would have got more experience on InDesign before creating my
booklet as I was working too slow on the software to keep up with the
production schedule, I was working too slow as I had to search how to use the
software every time I was using a new tool or altering my work. I thought that
all my other products were up to standard as I felt they were appealing to my
audience as I spent the majority of my time on them leaving me not enough
time to complete the E-booklet properly. If I was to do the project I would
have made my E-booklet first so that could spend the right amount of time so
that the booklet looked as good as the other products, this would have
allowed me to spend a little less time on the other products but I would have
been able to work faster on the products as I have experience in Photoshop,
this would have made all the products the same standard which would be
more appealing to customers.
6. Technical QualitiesThe insomnia 62 poster is similar to mine
as they are both gaming festivals posters.
When creating a poster for an event it is
important to showcase what is going to
happen in the event or big features in the
event. This is why both my product and
the insomnia poster have lots of images
and photos but not large amounts of text
as if someone looked at lots of pictures
that excited them and let their
imagination’s think of what I would be like
it would made them want to attend the
event rather than someone looking at the
lots of text and not bothering to read it. I
chose to show the games that will be
played in the event so that my audience
have an idea of what they're expecting
and also if people do not know about the
event and see the games they enjoy
playing and want to compete in, this will
make more people want to attend the
event. Another similarity is that the titles
are a large font as I wanted to make the
name of the event is more memorable to
my audience as if it is a large font it will be
the first thing people notice on the poster.
This helps if people remember the name
they will mention it to friends or family as
they would want to attend with other
people meaning more people will be
attending the event.
In the insomnia poster the title is in the
center of the page which imply that the
center of all the fun and games that are
shown in the photo’s Is at insomnia games
which is good for actual photos that
cannot be recognized by the images alone
but with my poster, my audience will be
able to recognize characters from the
games (as they're already world wide
known games) and be able to tell which
games are being showcased in the event
so it did not seem necessary to have the
title in the middle of the page. The photos
in the insomnia poster have been altered
so that there is a green tinge in the photo
which helps to set the mood of the poster.
This is alright if the photos do not have
much meaning behind them, such as the
lady acting as all the poster is trying to
show is that there is shows that take place
in the event, where as my images are
recognized by the colours in the images
and characters which could confuse
people if they saw a green footballer in
Fifa which wouldn’t make sense, giving
people the wrong idea and making them
not want to attend.
7. Technical Qualities
This is the insomnia 62 logo. A
similarity between the logos is that
mine is linked in with the event as
the logo for insomnia is an eye that
is open meaning they’re awake
constantly just like when you have
insomnia which is when you have
trouble sleeping and a stereotype is
that people stay up all night playing
video games and don’t sleep hence
the open eye this would make
people want to come as people in
the gaming community enjoy the
idea of staying up late and playing
video games. This is similar to mine
as mine is a retro gaming controller
as my audience is older I chose to
use the retro controller my
audience would have grown up with
and had lots of good memories with
which would help to make people
want to attend more.
A difference is that the
insomnia logo comes with the
number of times it has been
around, where as mine is a
constant logo so that it is more
memorable to my audience.
Having numbers next to the
logo takes away the attention
from the individual logo which I
did not want to happen with
mine. I also used simple shapes
to create my logo as I found it
was the best way to make my
logo as I did not want it to
make it too confusing to look at
as it is only a logo and will be
pressed down in to a scale size
for my other products. Having
it too confusing at a small scale
would make it hard to make
out what the logo.
8. Technical QualitiesThis is one of the
insomnia tickets. A
similarity in both my ticket
and the insomnia ticket is
that there there is a
section of the ticket which
is for the information and
the dates and location of
the event. Grouping all
the information helps the
audience to quickly read
the information they
need. Having it all in one
place also makes the
ticket look more organized
and user friendly which
will give a better overall
out look on the festival, as
if all the information was
scattered around it would
make the event look
unprofessional making
people not want to go.
A difference is that I have a
small image in my ticket
design as I feel it is makes
the ticket look more
aesthetically pleasing and
gives the audience
something other than text
to look at. Having a small
image helps to even the
ratio of text to images out
meaning it isn’t as daunting
to my audience. In the
insomnia ticket the
information is down the
middle where as mine is cut
off down one side, I found
that it looked more
traditional and easy to
identify it was a ticket where
as the insomnia ticket is
harder to recognize that it is
a ticket.
9. Technical Qualities
https://insomniagamingfestival.com/whats-on/
This is the insomnia
interactive eBook, a difference
is the layout of the different
topics mine was set out as
pages which makes people
read all of the slides before
they get to the bit they want
to look at this forces people to
look through at all the
different activities that are
available to my audience. This
is a good way to show off the
variety that is on offer to
them. If they use the insomnia
eBook they could miss out on
something that could make
them decide to want to
attend, as they don’t have to
look at all of the different
options available.
A similarity is that the insomnia
eBook pushes the same selling points
as I do in my eBook such as the Q&A’s
the special guests and the different
games to try out. All the different
activities will make people want to do
as in the gaming community want to
be the best and try everything first
which is why it is important to show
the customers that the event has the
latest things for them as they want to
look like achievers being the best in
their game and have the latest
equipment to show off to their
friends and seem more successful to
people. I found that the insomnia
eBook had lot more photos than mine
of the actual event, this was
something I would have liked to do
but it was harder for me as there
wouldn’t have had any previous
material I could have used in my
programme.
10. Aesthetic Qualities
This is my poster design, I
was happy with the outcome
of my poster and I feel it is of
a good standard. I was
pleased with the images and
how they have parts taken
out of the photos so that it is
not just a straight line. This
helps to make the poster
look more fun. I especially
think that the metal like bars
work well to go over the
edges of the images as I feel
they make the poster look
well presented. I also like the
colour gradient I added in as
I felt it made the poster look
better than one solid colour
behind the text. I thought
that my work looks creative
as images are not normally
shown with all the images
together and with the text in
the corner.
If I had more time I would have
added more text into the top right
corner as I feel it looked a bit empty
and could have had some more text
such as ‘the biggest gaming
convention in the UK’ this would have
helped create the effect that the
convention is full of different
activities rather than the poster
looking empty as if there wasn’t
enough in the event to fill a poster.
As I made my poster before I had
made my E booklet I hadn’t planned
out what was in the event fully this
meant that I didn’t know what
information I could put in the top
right corner which is why I linked it to
the hypothetical website. I would
have improved it by adding in more
text about what was in the event this
would have given people more of an
idea of what it was about which
would have made people want to
find out more about the event.
11. Aesthetic Qualities
This is my ticket design, I
thought that my ticket
design looked very
aesthetically pleasing as
it is not like any other
ticket design as a
traditional ticket design
is formal and dull. This is
why I decided to make
my ticket have a fun
theme to it as the event
is all about people doing
what they enjoy
together. I would
improve the purple half
of the ticket by adding in
more information such
as emergency contacts
which would make the
ticket more useful to my
audience.
I feel a weakness in
the ticket is that the
ticket has some empty
spaces in that I feel
need more
information or images
in. this would make
the event seem like it
has more content in
which would appeal to
my audience. I feel
another weakness is
the playercon title as it
makes the ticket look
like a poster as I feel
now that I should have
the title smaller and
on the other side
leaving more room for
images.
12. Aesthetic Qualities
I thought that my logo design was very creative as I made it
entirely from shapes. Creating my own logo from shapes meant
that it had its own originality and that it wasn’t copied by anyone. I
think a strength in the logo is the gaps in controller as it gives the
controller a 3D effect as it the bars are getting smaller as they go
up. I think a weakness is the head of the control as I feel it is too
big and out of proportion to the rest of the controller, this makes
the controller look unrealistic which would make the audience feel
there is no detail put into it.
13. Aesthetic Qualities
I thought that my ebooklet
looked appealing as the green
and purple colour theme is
fun and relaxing for the
customer as if it was black
and white it would harsh to
look at and dull due to white
and black being such
contrasting colours. The back
and front pages work really
well together I think, as the
first page grabs the attention
of my audience and makes
them interested as to why
their favourite games are on
the front, and then the back
cover brings excitement to
them once they’ve read the
booklet as they will see their
favourite games and want to
see if they can win.
I think I would improve the
about page and add in some
images of equipment and
possibly in game screenshots of
games which would give my
audience something other than
text to look at as they might just
skip past that page and miss out
on how the event plays out as
the map and schedule do not
show how it works. I liked the
map of the event as it is useful
and is neatly organized which
suggests to the customer that
the event is well organized and
also that it has had a lot of detail
and care in to it so that the
customers have the best
experience when there, which
would appeal to my audience
and make more people want to
attend.
14. Audience Appeal
I thought that the ticket
design looked very appealing
to my audience as the colours
of the ticket would suggest
that the mood of the event is
not formal and is to be
enjoyed. I used the font
battleground for my ticket as
it is thick and bold which
suggests power which would
appeal to my audience and
make them want to attend
more as they will want the
power if they win the
competition. The subheading
‘the UK’s gaming convention’
will appeal to my audience as
they're belongers and they
will want to be part of the
small community that is going
to be at the event.
The image of the car
from rocket league will
excite my audience as if it
is their preferred game
they will be waiting to
see if they can be the
best and seeing that
image will make them
want to attend even
more. The logo of the
retro controller will
appeal to the audience as
my audience is aged up
to 35 which is the time
that gamers used them
types of controllers,
meaning that the sight of
them controller will link
to their childhood and
make them want to
attend.
15. Audience Appeal
This is my poster design for
the event. The games that
are advertised on the photo
are some of the most
competitive and highly
rated games all over the
world. This means that the
majority of gamers looking
at the poster will be
interested in why the games
are being advertised.
Gamers always want to be
the best in their game and
want to unlock as much as
they can so that they can
show off to their peers. This
means that if the games are
on show they will want to
play them to see if they can
beat more than their peers.
The metal bars on the
poster are ragged and
have sharp corners which
suggest danger and and
power that it has been
smashed together and
trying to push through to
have the most space on
the poster which can be
linked to going head to
head and battling it out
top see who is the best
and be the last one
standing. This will appeal
to my audience as they
will want to be the last
person standing and be
the most powerful.
16. Audience Appeal
the logo design would appeal to my audience as I chose a retro
gaming controller as my audience is older I chose to use the retro
controller my audience would have grown up with and had lots of
good memories with which would help to make people want to
attend more. I used a darker shade of blue as my audience are
mature and do not need to have their attentions caught by bright
colours, and also if I was to use bright colours my audience may
fond that the event is too childish for them and make them not
want to attend.
17. Audience appeal
I think that my programme would
appeal to my audience as it is full
of information that would make
them want to attend. I
programme is very helpful for my
audience as it has a schedule and
map of the event, this would
make people want to attend as
they can see exactly what is
happening which means that if
the audience see something on
the schedule that they like it will
make them want to come. The
special guest would appeal to my
audience as they don’t know who
it is that is attend and will play on
the curiosity of people as they will
want to know who it is and go
incase it is someone that they
like.
In the about section of the
programme I have used multiple
rhetorical questions such as ‘do
you have what it takes’ to make my
audience question themselves and
prove to themselves that they can.
This will appeal to my audience as
people in the gaming community
like to be tested and like
challenges so that they can achieve
their goals and look like achievers
to their peers and people around
them. The font used in the
programme would appeal to my
audience as it suggest that it is a
relaxed environment and to have
fun in which can be very appealing
to adults that have stressful jobs
and like to relax by playing video
games.
19. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the poster design as I thought the images were
shown nicely and worked well to grab my attention.
– I thought the ticket was laid out well and organised which
made it look profession.
– I like that you have kept a colour scheme with all the
products, they all link well together.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– I would have made the E-booklet a little more detailed as I
thought it looked a little basic.
20. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked how the images were shown through out the
poster and E-book with the metal bar running down.
– I thought that the poster could have had more
information on it.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- I thought that the poster could have had more
information on it.
21. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked the logo as it is cool idea for a gaming event and
also fits with the theme.
– The e booklet could had a nice fun style to it, which
helps the outlook on the event.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- I would have had the logo head a different
colour or smaller.
22. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback? I
agree with my peer feed back as I feel it has had some
consideration and I would agree that the poster needs
some more information on it and I feel that the E-
booklet could have more information on it but I did not
have the time to make any more alterations and
improvements.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I disagree with the comment about the logo head being
too small as I feel it should be that big so that the logo
stands out more because if the logo is small it is harder to
get it noticed by the audience.
23. Peer Feedback Summary
Due to the peer feedback I would change my poster and add in more information
and restyle the text stating tickets are on the website as I feel It wastes a lot of space
on the poster. If I was to add more text and information I would add in some
subheadings such as ‘the UK’s biggest gaming festival’ this would have been good for
the event as It would get people’s attention as they would want to find out why it is
the best in the UK or they would want to be a part of the biggest gaming festival. I
would keep the logo the same as I don’t think it has to be changed because it has to
have something that stands out on the logo so that it is memorable. Changing the
colour of the head of the logo would be a good idea but having it one solid colour is
good to fit it into small corners as there is less chance of the colours contrasting with
the background and as it is at such a small scale it would just blend in with the
background. From the comment about the E-booklet looking basic, I would have had
another page about the activities and different stalls that there is for the customers.
This would have made the event seem like it has more of a variety of activities to do
in the festival, this would make more people want to go as there is more chance of
someone seeing something that they enjoy if there were more activities being
advertised.
