Broken family Parents divorce Live with mother and stepfather Neglected Addicted to online gaming Corporal punishment Mother and stepfather did not involve John in their holiday plans
Problems in school Teachers did not probe into his problems No counseling in school Rejected by peers Lack of motivation in school
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Maslow has developed a hierarchy of needs of a person. A person’s basic needs must be satisfied before he progresses to the next levels of needs before achieving self-actualization which is reaching one’s full potential at the final stage.
Difficult for John to move to the next stage of human needs (self-actualization).  Almost impossible for John to have a good self-esteem, being recognized and approved. John’s psychological needs are badly lacking.  As an evidence of: ,[object Object]
Lack of support from teachers and peers.John’s basic needs are adequately met.
Building a good family relationship is one of the crucial aspects for John’s development. John will have a sense of belonging and feel loved Allow John to move onto the next stages of needs till self-fulfillment needs Intimate relationship achieved within the family Positive impact in other areas (improved relationship with friends and teachers)

  1. John has to achieve a state of equilibrium when moving into his ‘new’ family. However the process of adaption is hindered as he is unable to assimilate into the new environment due to the different experiences in both families.
