2. Artist Mise- En-Scene
– The mise en scene throughout the entire video will be a key focus as it will lead
to both a good look of the video and also suggest whether it is realistic or
professional. Furthermore the mise en scene of the artist itself will help tell the
story of the music video I am trying to create, throughout the makeup,
costume, lighting and so on as well as suggesting the tone of the music video
and genre.
3. My Artists
– Male Artist: My male performer will have the inspiration from the 90’s indie
rock genre. Following bands like that of Oasis and the Stone Roses. With this I
would like him to look as if he is a bit rough around the edges and not totally
perfect. He will be far more relaxed in what he is wearing but also incorporate
older era fashion. This will add to him as the performer of the song and part of
the indie genre. I will constantly show this character in low key lighting with the
majority of the shots only showing half of his face in the light, adding the sadder
and heartbroken tone of his character.
4. My Artists
– Female Artist: The female artist in my music video although also being
presented throughout in low key lighting, will also be shown in full lighting
across her face; adding emphasis to her as the focus of the music video. She will
be shown to be superficial in her character, by constantly applying makeup and
adjusting her hair and clothing. Her lips will be in bright red lipstick and will be
the only colour in her outfit, as if they are the focal point suggesting that she is
a lustful character and that her appearance is all that is to be focused on. This
will add to the overall idea that she is what the male character is striving to get.
5. Locations
– The locations will only be limited to two primary areas.
– The first being the black box drama studio, where I will film majority of the performance
based narrative to the music video. The all black walls to this location will suggest that they
are trapped in an never ending ‘black box’ and as the female character is the only one able to
be shown in other locations, the male character is presented as ‘stuck’ in the box unable to
get out. This studio will also easily allow me to adjust and change the lighting to how I want it
and also add gels to the lights to change the overall colour to it.
– London: London will be used in the music video also. I will focus on using populated areas like
that of Westminster Southbank and also Piccadilly Circus. I will be shooting at night so that it
will match the aesthetic of the other shots taken in the black box; showing the much more
serious tone of the music video and also will be able to use the lights coming from the
buildings, lamps and advertisements throughout the city to add something different to the
music video as a whole.
