Bring me the horizon – Oh No
Ideas
Main singer in the
center of the video
Bright/bold
colours when
needed.
The video has
to tell a story
about the
lyrics of the
song.
Silhouette of the
‘character’ in the
music video.
Camera spinning
technique.
Shots both inside and outside(mainly inside)
(inside) Bedroom,
Livingroom,
kitchen, bathroom.
(outside) Streets
and ally ways.
Trumpet scene
should be filmed
in all one shot.
Simple
effects
nothing over
Disco lights in
some shots
Similar make up/
costume idea.
5. RESEARCH
• Use camera angle for the trumpet
scene in the song and add a
camera spinning effect.
• Use a similar filter(dull lighting but
bold colours)
• Use same facial expression.
• Use same setting and make it look
messy like in the screenshot.
• For the party scenes use this blue/purple/pink
colour scheme.
• Make the singer be in the front/ center for some
shot to show the audience who they are but not
many so the audience can focus of the message
of the video instead.
• Make the interior of the indoor settings modern.
6. RESEARCH
• Build the main “character” on this
rapper.
• Possibly draw on similar tattoos.
• ‘Bad boy’ character
• Possibly had fake piercings but
maybe not?
• Use a similar costume design.
• Use dull colours and not
expensive cloths.
• Need to create this image of a
poor drug user.
8. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
Dull lighting but bold
colour scheme.
Use various camera
angles such as close ups,
extreme close ups, body
shot, first person
perspective, third person
perspective, spinning the
camera and/or dolly shot.
Silhouettes of people in
the foreground and the
background in same
shots(especially if they are
in an area with little
lighting.
Lip syncing.
Playing music behind
the scenes of filming
so the person who is
lip syncing can sing
in sync with the song.
Transition effects.
9. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
For the camera spinning effect I plant on placing the camera on a
spinning object and to slowly spin it over the person in my music video
so that you get a full shot of their body however if this doesn’t work I
plan on panning the person laying down on the bed in the same
location as this setting.
The silhouette idea I have is going to to be set in
a kitchen, a party will be happening and the first
shot will be over the shoulder of the singer
looking at the character doing drugs however
you won’t be able to tell what drug they are
doing and you won’t actual see the drug itself.
The second shot will be behind the character
doing drugs focusing on the singer while he
sings but the person doing the drugs will be
blacked out and it will only be their silhouette .
The colour scheme will be blue, purples and pink
lighting however the lighting need to be dull and
not to vibrant.(Something like this)
10. MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
Song choice: Bring me the horizon – Oh No
Lyrics: They lyrics to the
video is about the main
singers friend being
addicted to drugs.
The drugs can not be shown on
screen, they have to off camera and
have to be implied to the audience
Locations: Bedroom,
Livingroom, kitchen,
bathroom, ally way and
streets.
Bedroom: This is
where all the
depressing scenes will
take place, for
example just laying in
the bed showing no
emotion and crying at
Livingroom: This where most
of the drugs will be take when
the main character is in their
home alone.
Kitchen: This will be where a
maximum of 3 or 4 shots will be
take of the character doing drugs
while at a house party
Bathroom: Their
will not be many
shots in this
location as the
only shot needed
will be the
Streets: This location will also
not need many shots except
one or two of the character
walking down a street unable
to walk straight.
Ally way: This will be another
scene where the charter will
take his drugs but with
doing so he will break down
crying
The singer: They will make an
appearance in most shots while miming
the lyrics in the background an
sometimes even the foreground however
majority of the time they will be invisible
to others, this will be shown when they
are dressed in bold colours
11. SUMMARY
An Idea I had for the scenes in which drugs will be taken I was thing of using some kind of sweets as a pill for
example skittles, I could also buy a tube contain to put them in however I have to keep in mind that I can't show
actual footage of the drugs but only the silhouette or the idea of it being taken for example sniffing along the
table.
The spinning camera shot will be the second to last shot of my music video(probably) as I want to do it over the
characters face and then back away and dolly shot them going into their stash of drugs then the final shot will be
the character laying on the floor with the door wide open after an overdose, the camera will be on floor level and
will capture the told half of the body and then cut to a black screen. However if the spinning camera effect doesn’t
work I will do a full body pan of the performer from the top to the bottom and then change the shot to a full body
shot from the side of the bed zoomed out an continue with the very last shots of the music video.
For the ally way scene I would like to film it in an ally way with a roof over the top of it while it's raining in the
street, if I can't record on a day which it is raining I could always edit it in or change my idea a little.
My first shot will be the charter banging on his friend's door(the singer) while intoxicated by drugs, the singer will
then answer the door pulling angry facial expressions while miming he song at the same time, the character will
not say anything but just stumble and smile a lot
The main scene in the music video will probably be the hardest which is the party scene as I will need to the
correct lighting and colour of lights and I will also need to edit it to make the colours more vibrant, another thing
to consider is have to blur other members of the party out as they are not important, I will have to make objects
and people who are not important seem duller and out of focus.
12. SUMMARY5 restrictions to your ideas
I will not be allowed to
show any drugs(fake drugs)
on camera, I will only be
allowed to create the idea
and possible show the
silhouette
Another restriction I will have will
be to having the correct equipment
to pull off an authentic dolly shot
and spinning shot although I will
hopefully find a way around it.
I will have to be careful when telling a
story about such a serious topic, I will
have to do my research on it and make
sure that all my information is correct
Keeping the lighting the same colour and shade in
the shots that need the same colour scheme will
be tricky but hopefully editing afterwards will help
even it out.
Costume will take a big part in my project as I
will have to think carefully about my choice ,
ideally I would like to have the singer wear a
bright red tux however I do not have the money
for that and I will have to change my idea and
costume design to something cheaper and more
reasonable.
13. FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
Bring Me The Horizon– Oh No
Bring Me the Horizon are an English rock band formed in Sheffield
in 2004. The group consists of lead vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist
Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls and
keyboardist Jordan Fish.
Bring me the horizon have a tour coming up with a band called
sleeping with sires who do the same genre of music as them and
talk about similar topics, however bring me the horizon usually
make music with various different bands and artists who sing
different genres such as pop, death metal and indie.
They started out as a heavy metal band however as the years went
on the vocalist obviously couldn't scream as loud nor a high as
usual so they decide to make rock songs and indie like songs in
stead.
The bands music videos are all different, they all have different
styles and techniques. Some of their music videos tell a clear story
that link with the lyrics but then there are also some videos that
don’t tell a story and are not related to the lyrics at all.
14. FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARYLyrics
You don't have to lie, I know exactly
where you've been
Cause you're chewing off my ear while
you're chewing on your chin
No we're not on the level, you're just off your face
It's not a state of mind though, your head's just in a state
I may be on the outside but you're empty within
It's getting kind of old now, I think it's time to pack it in
Don't call it a party cause it never stops
Now one is too many but it's never enough
Don't tell me you're happy cause this isn't love
So be careful what you wish for
So be careful what you wish for
Who you're trying to fool, you know you're in over your head
Cause you're holding onto heaven but you're hanging by a thread
And we're not on the level, you're just off your face
It's not a state of mind though, your head's just in a state
I may be on the outside but you're empty within
It's getting kind of old now, I think it's time to pack it in
Don't call it a party cause it never stops
Now one is too many but it's never enough
Don't tell me you're happy cause this isn't love
So be careful what you wish for
So be careful what you wish for
Don't call it a party cause it never stops
Now one is too many but it's never enough
Don't tell me you're happy cause this isn't love
So be careful what you wish for
the Voice of the song seems to be talking
somebody who is still addicted to
recreational drugs.
‘You don’t have to lie, I know exactly where
you’ve been’ – here he talks to whoever this
person is telling them he knows that they’ve
been to a party or some ever event to take
drugs.
This person is likely on some kind of
stimulant since they are talking a lot
‘chewing off my ear’ (presumably with
speech) and ‘gunning’ or chewing literally
15. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
I want my music video to tell a story, I want to set it out as a short film but still have elements
of a music video in it like the artist miming the lyrics to the song, however I want the genera of
the of the song to be place into the video as well, for example the party scenes will play when
the beat of the song kicks in and when people who listen to the song would usually start
dancing to it or when the song is no longer up beat and is in a low one and steady beat is when
the more darker side of the story will come out.
My message for the video is going to be about the after effects of drug uses and how it can
damage your body and possible take your life. Overall I would to be spreading awareness on
how drugs are bad for you and how taking them will effect you and others who care and love
for you as well.
In the video I need to make sure I don’t show any signs that drugs are good in anyway, for
example in my party seen you will see them taking drugs and having a fun time however at the
end of the video you will see them pass away due to the drugs and how many they took,
through out the video you will also see them break down and not be happy until they take the
drug however if you listen you the lyrics you you can hear “don’t tell me your happy cause this
isn’t love". Although the drug abuser may think he’s happy while he’s on drugs, he’s actually
miserable in reality. The drugs can only hide hurt and depression for so long, and it definitely
comes with a cost.
17. GUIDANCE:
PRE-PRODUCTION
ASSESSMENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make your
music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
18. TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
Summary: The video will be like a short film telling
a story in each shot and creating this idea of how
bad drugs are and the effects it has on the body
however it will still contain some aspects of a music
video like the miming and the shots being on track
with the beat.
Music track: I chose this track because it’s a song I
like but not to the point where I would say it’s one
of my favorites, The song itself is weird as it is an
upbeat song however the ore you listen to the
lyrics the more you realize what it’s about and ow
the song itself is actually trying to spread
awareness on a serious topic that they have
19. LOCATIONS
Most of my locations will be set
inside a house, the house needs to
look messy and un cared for as the
character in the music video doesn’t
have time nor do they care about
clearing up the place.
The outdoor areas such as the street
could be a bit of a risk as I need it to
be dark and empty so I will most
likely have to go out late at night
when no one is around to accidently
walk into my shot.
The weather in all my hots need to
be gloomy so it doesn’t matter if it
rains or not as long as there is no
clear sky that should be enough to
20. EQUIPMENT
The only equipment I will need is a camera and a tripod
which I can get from college. If I want to book
equipment out, I will have to go on blackboard and ask
at least two day prior to take it out of college, however I
can always talk to my tutor or another member of staff
who works in the media area if I can take equipment
out.
21. FACILITIES
I will edit most of my video in college as they have the programs I need
to be able to create what want however I will be able to add bits too it
at home if a certain program doesn’t have an editing skill that I need to
use or that I had in mind.
The program I will be using the most is Adoble premier pro as I know
how to use it more than any other editing program and it’s the easiest
to access.
22. PERSONNEL
I will need a maximum of 2 main performers(Someone to mime
the song and the character for my music video), I will also need
a few background characters, to achieve this I will need to
gather my friends in a room and just use two of them for the
whole of the music video.
Everyone I need for my project lives nearby
therefore I don’t need to transport them.
Majority of my friends have the same days off as me for
college so I could potentially film then however if they
don’t have time during the week I can always film after
work on the weekends.
23. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
I won't be needing many props as the video focuses on the effect of a specific prop. The only
props I will need are:
An old phone.
An alcoholic bottle.
A bank card(fake).
A magazine.
Halloween decorations.
Costumes are going to be casual clothing however I will need some items of
clothing to stand out or some people to stand out:
Party dresses.
A suit.
Bold colours for the main performers to wear.
Glittery make up(The glitter will symbolize the drug as it ‘brings the party to
them’).
Fake blood.
25. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING
I want my music video to correspond with the audio, I
want moments in the video to be on time with the beat, I
want to tell a story that links with the lyrics and I want to
change scenes settings depending on the beat/ flow of
the song, for example when the beat of the song goes
louder and fast I will play the party scene to correspond
with the audio and when the beat dies down and starts to
get slower and lower again I will bring the story in again
and change the setting to dull and depressing.
Dull and depressing. Bright and lively.
26. PRE-
VISUALIZATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Mise-en-scene: Everything that’s in the frame.
Information on colour/lighting
Dull and depressing. Bright and lively.
General
colour and
lighting
concept.
Feel & look:
For my music video I
am taking inspiration
from the series
‘euphoria’, the reason
for this is because the
song I have chosen is
about drug abuse and
so does this series, I
also chose it because
I generally like the
feel and look of it. It
has a unique and
modern look to it and
Here are some images that
represent what I want my
music video to look & feel
like…
MAIN INSPIRATION
27. KEY MOMENTS IN MY VIDEO
Ending: The ending of my music video will start when the trumpet solo in the audio kicks in, the
performer will be laying down on a messy bed in a messy room not moving or pulling any kind of facial
expression, the camera ill then pan the body slowly from top to bottom and then when I reach the end
on their body he shot will change to a zoomed out shot from the side of the bed, the performer will
then get out of bed and walk out of the frame. The hot will then change to a third person perspective of
them walking to their desk and opening a draw, however when they open the draw their will be close up
of what they pick up in the draw. The last shot in the video will be of the performer laying on the
ground with foam out of their mouth dripping down the side of their face(overdose), the camera will be
on floor level zoomed out and will either fade to blackness slowly or just completely cut to a black
screen.
The beginning: The music video will start off with the performer walking down a dark street all alone,
the camera will be giving a third person perspective and a dolly shot following their every move. The
shot will then change to a front perspective f them doing the same thing except the camera will be a bit
further away and zoomed out more so you can see the setting better and it will give you a full body
shot of the performer. The next shot will be the performer at the door of his friends house which is also
the person who will be miming the lyrics of the song, the shot will then cut to and over the shoulder
shot of the miming person opening the door and the camera will be focused on the performer at the
door. Another over the shoulder shot will happen from behind the performer focusing on the person
miming the lyrics to the song and then it will switch back inside the house focusing on the both of
them while the performer stubbles into the house and slams the door behind him. Then the last few
shots will be inside the house of them arguing.
Party scene: In this scene I want there to be dull purple and pink lighting filling the room while people
ae dancing and smiling. The first shot will be the singer miming the words pulling a blank facial
expression while the rest of the crowd is blurred out, the second shot will then be an over the should
shot behind the mime focusing on the performer doing some kind of drug. The third shot will then be
another over the shoulder shot however this time it will be behind the performer and it will be focused
on the person miming the lyrics.
28. TOOL FOR EXPLORING THE
DIRECTION AND VISUALS
✧ Pink, purple and blue lights.
✧A normal white light for the scenes in the dark.
✧ Tripod for the shots that need to be still or dolly shot.
✧ Possibly a green screen for one or two shots at a
minimum.
30. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
[Verse 1] You don't have to lie, I
know exactly where you've been
'Cause you're chewing off my
ear while you're chewing on
your chin
[Pre-Chorus] No we're not on
the level, you're just off your
face
It's not a state of mind though,
your head's just in a state
I may be on the outside but
you're empty within
It's getting kind of old now, I
think it's time to pack it in
Singer opens the door to friend
who tries to explain where he’s
been and the singer starts
miming the lyrics.
Friend enters the house sulking
while the singing continues to
mime the lyrics making it look
like he’s arguing.
Continues to argue with one
another while singer continues to
mime the lyrics of the full pre
chorus.
31. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
[Chorus] Don't call it a party 'cause it never
stops
Now one is too many but it's never enough
Don't tell me you're happy 'cause this isn't
love
So be careful what you wish for
So be careful what you wish for
Camera focuses on the singer
miming the lyrics of the song
while people are dancing in
the background and
foreground of the video while
he’s at the back staring at the
camera.
Over the shoulder shot from
behind the singer while the
camera focuses on the
performer leaning over a
counter.
Another over the
shoulder shot from
behind the performer
this time focusing on
the singer miming.
Camera zooms in on the
singers lips miming these
words.
The singer will walk out of the room
miming these words, they walk past
the camera and the scene changes to
dull and gloomy.(walks towards the
door way)
[Verse 2]
Who you're trying to fool, you know you're in
over your head
'Cause you're holding onto heaven but you're
hanging by a thread
Sat down on the kitchen
floor crying as the camera
pans towards them.Camera will be above
their head and zoom in
on a phone they are
holding.
32. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
[Pre-Chorus] And we're not on the level, you're just off your face
It's not a state of mind though, your head's just in a state
I may be on the outside but you're empty within
It's getting kind of old now, I think it's time to pack it in
Walks into room and sit’
on the end of the bed,
then places magazine
onto their lap.
The performer is
crushing up pills
with a card while
the singer is in the
background.
Shot from above and
then transition into
another party.
Throws phone across
room and walks out.
33. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
[Chorus] Don't call it a party 'cause it never stops
Now one is too many but it's never enough
Don't tell me you're happy 'cause this isn't love
So be careful what you wish for
So be careful what you wish for
Transitions into the party at the
kitchen table.
Focus on the performers
hands shaking.
We zoom back out to
see them look around
the place confused(still
in slow motion)
Extreme clos ups of nose
moth and eye as they
begin to bleed slowly and
the eye starts to dilate.
[Saxophone Solo]
The final shot will be of the
performer bleeding out
laying on the kitchen table
as the camera zooms out
slower and slower and then
starts to fade to a black
screen.

43. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO
Ali(singer/miming)
Email: Ali-Ouarirou@yorkcollege.ac.uk
Phone number: 07563 851075
Myself as the main performer.
A group of at least five friends if possible as background
actors for the party scene, if not use props to look like
people, I will only need a third person to help with camera
work for when both me and the singer are In a shot together
however I will be using a tripod for most shots.
44. LOCATION INFORMATION
For the scene where the actor walks down the street in the
begging at night.
If for some reason there is road working going on or some other
issues I will film down my street.
This will be the only scene ill need from outside.
It’s a public area and is never that busy during the day so it will
definitely not be busy during the night.
I will only need to two shots from this street, one from the back
as a close and one from the front as a zoomed out shot of the
full body.
Every other scene will take place in my house
(bedroom, kitchen, living room and outside my
front door).
I will also need two shots from outside my
front door ,a side profile close up of the
actor banging on the door and one of
them entering the house in the same
camera angle.
45. RISK ASSESSMENT
There are very limited risks in my video as most of my shots apart from
two or three are filmed inside so therefor no one can steal it or damage
and no bad weather can break the camera.
If it is raining on the one day I need to record outside I will have to
either do it at a different time or possible a different day.
The only risk assessment for inside my home would be my party scene
as the lighting will be dull and their will be a few flashing lights,
because the room will have a few people in acting they might
accidently knock down a glass bottle for which I need as a prop.
46. CONTINGENCY PLAN
Pot. Problem Effect on Production Solution/Control Person Responsible
Green screen Might not work or will
take too much time to

enough people for the

Could us props as

Editing:
For editing I will take three days to edit each scene in my music video as most
of my scene contain around about 10 shots in each.
51. PRODUCTION RECORD/LOG
The over all filming of my music video went okay as I had
many issues with lighting and acting for it as I didn't feel
comfortable in front of a camera however I managed to
pull it off and apart from that the camera angles and
overall shots where fine to me, I did all though have to
change some shots and add extra.
We also had some issue with timing and kit as some of
the days which I planned to film were unavailable as the
person I asked to mime for me has unexpectedly busy
and the day on which I need to kit was unavailable as so
many people booked it before hand.A lot of my footage was filmed last minute as I changed my
mind a lot and that I realized the lighting wasn't great and that
the idea on a whole just wouldn’t work out well.
