2. Taylor Swift- Ours
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ34LlaIk88
• This video is from country/pop singer Taylor swift. Due to her young age and style or tone of
music the audience of her songs would be that of young, females. Furthermore these would also
predominantly be that of country music fans due to its strong fan base in the USA. The story of
the video revolve around Swift going through her somewhat miserable, bring working day whilst
reminiscing about her supposed relationship, before reuniting with her partner who has come
back from war. This story resembles some chick flick, romantic Hollywood films and therefore
again highlights it happy pop/country genre and emphasis’ the suggested audience. The video
is all together a range of performance and narrative, with the two corresponding with each
other; as the lyrics could be interpreted into normal conversation from Swifts character. Overall
this music video is successful as it keeps the audience engaged in finding out what happens and
links to the artists lyrics, image and genre of music.
3. • The video uses repetition of the same shots in order to show the boring, repetitive nature
of the protagonist day. This bland in colour shot adds some comedy into the video whilst
also showing the hopelessness of her job as she continually is having to upgrade the
printer for it then to disappear, now unable to use it.
Close up, rule of thirds framing shots are continually
used, with symmetry also being a key factor. This
specific shot shows an example of the performance
aspect.
An example of one of the ‘flashbacks’ or memories
thought of by the character, shown to be watched on
tablet; highlighting the modern nature of the video.
4. Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney
– Four, Five Seconds
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt0g4dWxEBo
• This video is predominantly focused on the performance of all three artist. This songs brings
together classic rock and roll from the Beatles Paul McCartney with r&b/ hip hop, Rihanna and
Kanye west; thereby conjoining the old and the new. This song has some country music
elements, as well as r&b and pop, therefore widening its audience, even more so with the range
of audiences and fans of each artist. The video itself is very simple with it just consisting of the
three artists singing and moving around a square. Grey space therefore just performing to the
camera and audience. There is no narrative, which is unusual for modern videos, this again is
abnormal as it does not feature any strong conceptual factors. This video is very unique and
therefore successful in focusing on the vocals rather than the show.
5. This shot is frequently used
in the video, with it going
out of low key and high key
lighting on the artists face,
in order for the audience to
see her sometimes in
silhouette and sometimes in
detail. This makes the video
more interesting and makes
you focus on her more.
This shot gives another different
element of performance.
Performance with instruments,
this feature adds personality and
difference to the video as a whole
and also highlights their talent,
making you pay attention to the
music.
Only three main shots are used,
most being ,id shots, or full
body shots in order to show all
three artists together, showing
their teamwork and unity in the
songs creation; whilst also
demonstrating their movements
(dancing). All of these three
shots are continually repeated in
the video.
