2. Jay Z/Linkin Park
This CD digipak is from Jay z’s album with heavy m metal
band linkin park. With Jayz being a hip hop, rap artist, the two
are very different and therefore the digipak has too reflect
this. The outer layers show the name of the artists in the same
graffiti like fonts smashing out of and being written on dirty
brick walls. This suggests the tone and harsh sound to the
music. On the back a song list and production details are
shown, therefore giving the viewer an insight into the creation
process and the digipak itself before buying it. The other
three pages, including that of where the actual disc is carried,
all seem to look like the same dirty brick wall but with various
graffiti on it, some of which being random drawings and the
other being the artists name again in the same font but
slightly different so that we can distinguish between the two
pages easily.
3. Rihanna- Loud
This digipak comes from r&b/ pop singer Rihanna on her
very successful loud album. The main part of the digipak
is the overall colour and high saturation of the red and
the blue. This makes is eye-catching and vivid and
therefore interesting to potential buyers scanning the
shelves. The only text on the entire piece is that of the
artist name and album name (slightly larger) on opposing
sides (top and bottom) of the front cover, with the
middle taken up with the features of Rihanna's face in the
full bleed image. The digipak features a slot inside where
the disc is put rather than a click in compartment,
therefore allowing a three page stretching image to be
placed across the entirety, again of the artist making her
the main focal point.
4. Arctic Monkeys Digipak
This digipak is different to the other two, with it having a more
grungy tone to the entire piece. The main feature is the character
placed on two different pages, moving about whilst having a
cigarette. These are normally associated with indie/ rebellious
individuals and therefore highlight the tone of the band. As well as
this on the font over the artic monkey font is placed in the top left
hand corner, showing that although they mag not be the main focus
they still are essential to the album sales, no album name is
mentioned. Other than that album song lists and production details
are also featured, like jay z’s album to give the viewer more detail
about the album itself. The Cd holder is again covered with
cigarettes, emphasising my previous point and attitude to the whole
piece. Finally the entire album is in greyscale further adding to the
grungy feel.
