The History Of The World Wide Web
The history of the World Wide Web was created on August 6th, 1991 by Tim Berners–Lee. (Bryant,
2012). Due to the creation of the World Wide Web, many things have changed. Websites have made
everything either easier or more complicated. But, we will talk about the easier this world has
gotten. Some websites that have made life easier are Facebook, Strayer University, Amazon, EBay,
Google, Gmail, Yahoo, PayPal, Walmart, Schwan's, Myspace, Pogo, Trip Advisor, and Home Chef.
These are just to name a few of the websites that have made our lives easier.
I could not agree more, that technology is like the Devil to many households making parents'
divorce due to lack of person to person communication, and it makes partners want to have
infidelities in their relationships. But, nonetheless, websites like the ones I listed above are to make
our lives easier.
We will start with Social Networking sites. Social Networking sites, like Facebook, and Myspace,
are to bring people closer to each other from distances away. I have known of many relatives finding
each other after many years of not knowing each other, due to adoption and other circumstances.
They always help connect business to the users. You will always see ads on the sides of Facebook
while playing a game, if it is not full screen, of business that you might like. Social Networking can
be the cause of distraction with family as well. There was a report of a lady playing Farmville, a
very popular game on Facebook and it used to

1. Why and how did the world history movement emerge to challenge Eurocentrism in history?
The world history movement emerged to challenge Eurocentrism because it wanted to establish a
broader understanding of human history, not just studying world history subjective towards
European, western civilizations. The world history movement emphasizes the importance of
understanding world history from various accounts, various perspective, and to look at history
through the context of the three C's (change, comparison, connection).
2. What are examples of change, comparison, and connection in world history would you like to
explore further as your course unfolds?

Advancement in Western Europe
Progression, Enlightenment, and a sophisticated culture refinement are all factors that can portray
the ideal civilized society. With all these factors in collaboration, we have a civilization, the highest
form of human organization. In an organization, the living biotic creatures are given the ability to
sustain and eventually assemble what they consider to be modern life. In ancient culture, prehistoric
Mesopotamian and Egyptian cultures created what they believed to be a civilization. Through
extensive use of resource and desire to evolve in humanity, both civilizations succeeded in leaving
impact. However, Within Mesopotamian society, the long lasting impact of their inventions
continues to provide a benefit to western civilization. Considering their advanced writing system,
lunar calendar recordation, and revolutionary use of the wheel, Mesopotamia truly stood as a
promising foundation for a lasting civilization.
One of the primary Mesopotamian inventions was in form of writing; this was called "Cuneiform."
The Mesopotamian word "Cuneiform" translates to wedge shaped. The Sumerian writing system
used several thousand characters and some for sounds (Kagan 8). Using writing initially for
recording the dealing of items, writing was beneficial to the development of a system that portrayed
a good understanding of fair transactions. Cuneiform was written

During the course of this analytical paper, we will look at the impact of warfare on world societies
and people's consciousness, during the period of the 1500s in world history, called the Early Modern
Period; also, we will discuss the consequences of the Great War. Additionally, apart from studying
the altering methods of warfare and their magnitude, we will look up to different motivations of
statesmen and peoples who declare wars or engage in several types of violent actions towards
certain societies. Throughout the paper, we will stretch any pertinent evidence at appropriate points
of what war leaders, intellectuals and common citizens view war and violence, which they
experience during their life. Some of the examples include the Arabs that vastly expanded the world
of Islam, yet were traditionally predatory in nature, which benefited more from the taxation of the
conquered than from their conversion. There are also examples like the Mongol Empire, which was
too, predatory, but differently from the Arab ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was also the period where they [Christians] began their subjection of the women and children,
who were parted from the Indians to exploit them by consuming the food they provided by working
hard. This example, showed that the Spaniards failed to content themselves by the food supplies
provided by the Indians, "A Christian eats and consumes in one day, an amount of food that would
suffice to feed three houses inhabited by ten Indians for one month" (p 610). And so, the Christians
did not hold back and beat Indians with buffets until they laid hands on the nobles of the villages.
Consequently, Indians behaved with a high degree of temerity and shamelessness that "the most
powerful ruler of the islands had to see his own wife raped by a Christian officer". (p

CHAPTER 2–4 River Dynasties in China
Key Vocabulary:
Loess – The yellow river, deposits huge amounts of yellowish silt when it overflows its banks. This
silt is fertile soil called Loess.
Oracle Bone – Animal bones and tortoiseshells on which priests had scratched questions for the
gods.
Mandate of Heaven – The Mandate of Heaven is an ancient Chinese belief that heaven granted
emperors the right to rule based on their ability to govern well, appropriately and fairly.
Dynastic Cycle – the pattern of rise, decline, and replacement of dynasties
Feudalism – a political system in which nobles, or lords, are granted the use of lands that legally
belong to the king. In return, the nobles owe loyalty and military service to the king and protection
to the people who live on their estates.
Describe China's unique geography and the environmental challenges the Chinese faced.
The Yellow river, the East China Sea, and the Pacific Ocean are located to the east of China.
Mountain ranges and deserts dominate about two–thirds of China's landmass. Taklimakan Desert
and the Plateau of Tibet are in the west of China. To the southwest are the Himalayas. The Gobi
desert and the Mongolian desert is in the north of China. The Huang He's floods could be disastrous.
Sometimes floods destroyed the villages. Because of China's relative geographic isolation, early
settlers could not trade with other peoples. China's natural boundaries did not

On August 6 and 9, 1945, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by the first atomic
bombs used in warfare, killing over 150,000 Japanese and inflicting radiation poisoning on more
still. Five days later on August 14, Japan surrendered. The need to defeat Japan and to end the
Second World War is the most commonly held view about dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima
and Nagasaki. Some argue however that this was not the main reason for dropping these two bombs
in 1945.
On April 12, 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died and so as Vice President, Harry S. Truman

Benjamin Cohen justified the dropping of the bombs by saying, "Any weapon that would bring an
end to the war and save a million casualties among American boys was justified and we were talking
about dealing with the people who hadn't hesitated at Pearl Harbor to make a sneak attack
destroying not only ships but the lives of many America soldiers." The US government used a lot of
propaganda as a way to remind Americans of the attack on Pearl Harbor, this was mostly in the form
of posters showing the atrocities of destroyed fleet.
Many scientists and historians have questioned whether part of Truman's decision to drop the bombs
was to test this new type of weapon. A previous nuclear test explosion was conducted in a desert in
New Mexico however this did not show what the bombs were capable of in a populated area.
Scientists did give Truman alternative locations to test the bombs such as uninhabited islands but the
president wanted to properly see what the new weapon could do. A secret report sent to President
Truman in April 1945 by the scientists who made the bomb said, " We remind you of the report sent
to President Roosevelt in 1940. It spoke of the danger of radiation, which will kill men, women and

World History helps serve as markers of what we have become today as well as hints to what we
will become. Ironically, it gives us a close perspective, while at the same time giving us a broader
one. If we focused solemnly on American history, we would only be informed about situations only
occurring in our country and would be closed off to the rest of the world. It helps us keep a large
record of past events as either successes or failures and help us make decisions regarding the future.
Some of those important markers that help us keep track of our history include literature,
competition, unity, and expansion. One reason World history is a marker is because it of literature. It

We've managed to be more open to change and managed to move from "the traditional" to the
"modern" because of new technology and the ability to store this information. History has allowed
us to write our own future. Americans have learned that slavery is not correct and is one of the
reasons why we have managed to make it part of our Amendments. We have managed to include
women in our voting because we have learned that women are an important part of society and it
would be foolish not to accept them as such. We have also managed to have a black president. It
would be ignorant to say history is not important. History is very complex and without little changes
like this we could have continued to be a much more segregated country. Its not to say that racism
doesn't still exist, but that people are finding out that if we have things in common with people from
the same area, we might also have things in common with people from across the country. Events
are what help bring us together. What help us decide on who we are going to vote for the next
election. We look at events and situations that help us decide if we are content with what it means to
be "American". It helps us decide whether or not we will partake in a world event like the Civil War

World Trade Center History
The Hidden History of One World Trade Center
The tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, One World Trade Center is a new but emotionally–
charged icon for New York City. The spiritual successor to the Twin Towers of the first World Trade
Center, the tower rose from the ashes of 9/11 to become a symbol of both New York City and
America's strength and resilience. Few people, however, really know the hidden history behind this
iconic skyscraper.
After the September 11 attacks, plans were quickly drawn up to rebuild the World Trade Center.
After a contest was held to redevelop the complex, a proposal from architect Daniel Libeskind was
selected as the winner in 2002. At the centerpiece of Libeskind's proposal was a new signature tower
for the complex intended to soar to a symbolic 1,1776 feet into the air. ... Show more content on

A symbolic cornerstone was laid on July 4, 2004 even as the design was undergoing several
revisions. After several years of redesigns, the final plan for the tower was revealed in June 2005,
though financing and security issues held up the actual construction of the supertall skyscraper until
the summer of 2006.
Concrete pouring for the new tower was completed in November 2007 and construction cranes were
installed in January 2008, finally allowing full construction to commence in earnest. In 2009, the
tower's name was changed from the Freedom Tower to One World Trade Center in an effort to make
it easier to identify for the public. By 2010, the tower began to rise steadily above the ground and
stood at 82 floors by the tenth anniversary of the September 11

World History CBA: WW1 WW1 was the result of several factors such as Imperialism, Nationalism
and Militarism between World Alliances of that time period. The two sides who ended up facing
each other in this war because of those factors were the: Allies – United Kingdom, Russia, France,
USA and Italy, while the Central Power included Ottoman Empire, Austro Hungary and Germany.
At time in history most European nations already had colonies and as the years went by, the land
which was still independent was fought over fiercely. Italy and Germany were new world powers
and both countries wanted to expand their boundaries. England was focused on maintaining it's
already diminishing empire while Russia and Austro–Hungary were busy dividing the Balkans
through force and politics. Each nation wanted to look and be stronger as a nation. Imperialism – the
hunt for more land, lead to Militarism and Nationalism which helped create the war. These three
factors gave birth to WW1 and played a big role in the war. The two sides who ended up facing each

World History in Context Essay

HIS 140 – A History of Humanity

World History in Context, written by David Christian (2003), questions the context of world history
as well as the complexity of human history and the societies with which they live. In Christian's
article he argues that looking at world history in its global context, rather than one specific moment
in history, is the way it is intended to be interpreted and allows historians to recognize reoccurring
patterns and themes. World history is meant to be an unbiased account of only one specific species,
humans (Christian 2003, 437–438). Historians often struggle with this challenging topic and tend to
produce works extremely biased, usually towards stable 'western civilizations' and ... Show more

Though more complex, they are also more fragile and rare because the consumption of large energy
flows is a challenging task (McNeill 2003, 319–320). For example, the colossal increase in size of
the human brain over the past four million years has left us with the most complex structure in the
universe, consuming the largest amount of energy proportionate to its size (Ponting 2000, 24). 'The
brain consumes twenty percent of the energy necessary for the body but only accounts for two
percent of its body mass' (Christian 2003, 455). This statistic clarifies doubt that the brain is
anything other than an energy–hoarding structure, just as others of similar complexity.
Human societies have also evolved from simple structures of early hunting–and–gathering
communities to the more complex cosmopolitan cities of today. The hunting–and–gathering
communities were fairly simple societies demanding the minimum of resources. Complexity grew
with farming communities and more energy was necessary to sustain the larger populations and the
demands of a stable, non–nomadic life. Early civilizations saw an increase in complexity with the
introduction of specialization and trade. Which, again, required more energy to sustain even larger
communities. Cultural evolution has evolved so much that cities today are only possible because of
humans' ability to control energy by the movement of food across large distances to easily accessible
locations (McNeill 2003, 320–321).

Africa and the tribe the Zanj that live there. In Document four it discusses the trade goods in Gujarat
India. Document two discusses the Jewish merchants. Document five is written by a Muslim traveler

about Zanj in East Africa and their trade goods. They have trade goods such as wild leopard skins,

Criticisms on the Studies of World History Essay
In the late twentieth century, the study of world history has emerged to allow both historians and
students to understand the world from a global perspective. World history is viewed to be part of the
academic field than the research field. According to Charles Hedrick, author of The Ethics of World
History, Western civilization was the main course taught in schools and universities before world
history became part of the curriculum. The need to understand the world in a broader perspective
compared to a Western perspective made the study of world history popular in the United States.
Historians approached the study of world history with a thematic approach to understand the
integration and difference between people and major events of ... Show more content on

This is most noticeable in patriotic world history. The development of world history from the Right
created the "patriotic world history." This approached to world history advocated American values
and accomplishments. Patriotic world history most obvious criticism is its Eurocentric perspective
on world history. The patriotic world history serves its purpose by "legitimiz[ing] particular political
values." It focuses on the values and experiences of European and Euro–American, while treating
other societies as paths to avoid. Sometime patriotic world history "goes so far as to exclude most of
the world's peoples and societies from world history." This approach is far from the original goals of
world history to understand integration and differences between people and events without
compromising other societies.
Another criticism of patriotic world history is the lack of professional historians. Two advocates of
patriotic world historians are Paul Ganon and Diane Ravitch. While they have a degree in history,
they lack the qualification of a professional historian. They proclaim to understand the meaning of
the global past and use it for their own political

A History Of The World In 6 Glasses Summary
There are many things that shape the course of history. Powerful rulers, deadly diseases, and
influential religions are a few common examples of these. But, one group of influential commodities
to shape history that not many people consider is beverages. In particular, beer, wine, spirits, tea,
coffee, and cola are six that have significantly shaped the course of history. The nonfiction book, A
History of the World in 6 Glasses, written by Tom Standage, discusses the significance of these six
popular drinks in relation to human culture shaping around their existence. The first beverage that
Standage discusses in his book is Beer. Beer was probably first discovered when someone left oats

Spirits became very popular during the Age of Exploration because of their high alcohol content.
One could carry a lot more alcohol on a ship, and take up significantly less room. Spirits were also a
key player in the Slave Trade in the United States. Spirits could be traded for slaves, and therefore
was a huge contributor to the economy of the United States. The United States could never have
been the superpower it is today had it not been for the contribution of the Slave Trade and spirits to
our economy. However, when distillers in Newport began the production of rum with a higher
alcohol content, meant specifically for use as currency in the slave trade, the English, who had
previously provided spirits as made in the British sugar islands, became discontent with their new
competition. The English then imposed a high tax on molasses so that it was more expensive to
make rum in Newport. But, these new taxation laws were ignored completely. When the British did
nothing about this, it created a newfound resentment and disregard of the British. This tax law
influenced the fight for American

When thinking about World History curriculum, one might often think that they could never relate

ideas and beliefs that existed back then are still very prominent in the world today. Some that are
still around are the themes of forgiveness, aggression, and anger. In the upcoming year these themes
might occur with the class material quite often. Anger, an emotion we all experience, has been the
reason for many of the problems the world faces today. Rage can come from something as
minuscule as stubbing a toe or from a rejection of any kind. It is a key factor in violence, fights, and
murder, and it can turn into something life–altering if felt strongly

A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage is a non–fiction historical novel, whose main
purpose is to show the surprisingly pervasive influence of certain drinks on the course of history.
Then it takes the reader on a journey through time to show the history of mankind through the lens
of beverages. The thesis of the novel is that through history certain specialty beverages have
affected more than just the diet of people and changed political aspects, economic standings,

Coffee quickly became the drink of intellect and industry being known to sharpen the mind. Taverns
were replaced with a more sophisticated meeting place, the coffeehouse. These "led to the
establishment of scientific societies and financial institutions, the founding of newspapers, and
provided fertile ground for revolutionary thought." [4] Once established as England's national drink,
tea imports from first China and India led to massive trade. The book describes the power of the
British East India Company, which "generated more revenue than the British government and ruled
over far more people,"
wielding more power than any other corporation in history. [5] This imbalance of power had an
enormous effect on British foreign policy, and led to the independence of the U.S. Like most of the
drinks discussed in this novel, Coca–Cola was originally devised as a medical drink. More than any
other product, Coca–Cola has stood as the symbol of America's "vibrant consumer capitalism." [4]
Rather than shrink at the challenge, Coca–Cola took full advantage of the challenging times it found
itself in, gaining ground through the depression, and then traveling alongside our soldiers into
WWII, becoming a global phenomenon. A History of the World in 6 Glasses is very useful and
beneficial to the AP World History curriculum. In a teaching course, the teacher could assign a

How History Has Shaped The World
From the beginning of time, humans have been developing physically and mentally into the
brightest and most successful beings on earth. We've discovered lands, invented medicines and
technology, and endured through catastrophic episodes. Everything we use in our daily lives has
evolved from its original state. Some life–changing events occurred last year, or maybe centuries
ago. Most people couldn't care less how, why, when, and where occasions were taken place and
think learning about the past is useless, but I have to disagree. As a student who has been taking
social studies classes since the 1st grade, I believe learning about historical people and events that
have shaped the world into being what it is today, is important. History is very important to me
because it dwells within the past and tells its events so thoroughly that you can almost imagine
yourself living in that period. Plus, knowing the tragedies and mistakes made in the past had and
still helps us build a fair and just lifestyle. Studying history gives people the answers they've been
wondering about, such as curiosity of how and why World War II is an unforgettable piece of the
past we all know about. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pros And Cons Of New World History
"New world history emerged at a time of dramatic expansion in the thematic scope of historical
analysis"
There are many forms of looking at history, the most prominent being Eurocentric and nation–state
perspectives. However from the 20th to the 21st century up to date, historians have begun straying
away from these view points and gravitating towards the world history perspective. Here I will
briefly look at the pros, cons and implementation of the world history view point using the example
of the end of slavery in Africa.
World history helped steer away from viewing Africa as a receiving force but rather as a
contributing force. In the 18th century the abolishment of slave trade was becoming a spreading
norm in European countries and Britain.

Reflective Essay: AP World History And European History Club
It is unfair to study an entire chronicle of past events spanning nearly four million years in a fast–

1939 till 1945. It involved almost every part of the earth. World war 2 was the bloodiest conflict,
more than 40 million were found killed. The principal belligerents were the Axis powers–Germany,
Italy, and Japan–and the Allies–France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, and, to a

of the disputes left unsettled by World War II (Royde–Smith). First of all, German on September 1

A. Access to education is among the basic human rights and everyone should have the same
opportunities. No one should be discriminated against because of their background, religion, gender
or age. Inequality in education is connected to major problems in our society. The Pakistan
constitution has an article called Article 25A. Which is the Right to education. It states that the
government of Pakistan is responsible for providing free and compulsory education. Unfortunately,
the government only goes so far. Low budget and funding for education are main struggles on the
way to educational development and expansion of student's education. Pakistan has the world 's

According to Randall Wallace, the writer of the script for the film , "The question of the historical

make the mistake though when viewing the film. From my own knowledge, I know that the Scottish
did not paint their faces blue. That's as far as my knowledge of the film before viewing goes. What I
plan to do in this research essay is to write out the inaccuracies in the film, and address

History of Internet
Before the the Internet was created, linking the world, human beings were already thinking with a
connected mind. While messages obviously were unable to be transferred electronically, humans
invented different ways to trade information and news with other people. Firstly was the post. In
order to send a friend a message, a letter would have had to been written and mailed. Mailing
messages was a long process, often taking days to get one message to another person. This method
(still used today) was not the most convenient because there is no urgency or speed in mailing a
letter. Luckily in the mid 1800's the telegraph was invented. Sent for the first time in 1838, the
telegraph was the first instance of sending a message (4). A telegraph is defined "as the transmission
of textual or symbolic messages without the physical exchange of an object. This is the first instance
of a message being sent in a "virtual" sense (2). While messages could be delivered through the mail
within a matter of days, a telegraph could be transmitted live. At the time this was quite a feat. When
studying the creation of the internet, it is important to remember that not one single man directly
created the web that we know today. Rather, many brilliant minds, over time, added and refined the
experience for the greater good. Originally, the earliest version of the internet was constructed as a
tool for US warfare. The United States

Analysis Of A Little History Of The World By Jeff Gombrich
Unlike many non–fiction, historical texts, A Little History of the World by Sir Ernst Hans Josef
Gombrich focuses on multiple events that occurred from the prehistorical time period through World
War II. Hence, many readers of this book perceive the contents of it to be comparable to a world
history textbook. For example, Cathy Duffy asserts "I can't use the word "textbook" to describe it
since it would be a drastic misrepresentation of the book's style. Yet, the contents of the book are
somewhat similar to a world history survey covering prehistory up through World War II even
though Gombrich does not try to cover every event" (Duffy 1). This approach of writing that
Gombrich has used is one of the many reasons why A Little History of the

A Little History Of The World Chapter Summary
In reading a Little History of the World by E.H. Gombrich you realize that history seems so much
less complicated when you are the one standing back and reflecting on the past. You realize how
easy it is to often forget that every single new idea, religion and war was a struggle that lasted
generations upon generations. History is more than just a page or a story, its our account of the
world. That goes to show how short life and history is, you realize that history is always repeating,
war after war, peace then war. There are good and bad periods in history and its up to us to learn
from them. In a way history is much like a human being it goes through stages, learns about life, and
has inner struggles or wars about their ideas and their beliefs. History started out young and
innocent, like us. This was long after the dinosaurs roamed the earth, when the start of ... Show more

During the 20th century different regions and countries of the extra European world –Japan, China,

3.1 Independence and unity to restore national sovereignty
In the lapse of time between the two world wars, China was experiencing the so called 'awakening'.
In 1912 the empire was abolished and the republic was announced, but it fell into the hands of a
ruling class subjected to the Japanese hegemony. Sun Yat–sen, who had already played a key role in

In foreign relations, trade had a marginal value and foreign investment both inwards and outwards
were essentially absent. One of the greatest failures of Mao's notable project 'Great Leap Forward' in
1958 turned out to be one of the greatest failures as it was intended to collectivize all agricultural,
industrial and service life under people's communes and militias' control . The first consequence of
this measure was an economic autarky that led to one of the worst famines of the twentieth century.
Developments in international policy pushed China towards a gradual isolation and growing
conflicts. Eventually China's international political and economic relations degenerated and led to a
serious military confrontation with its main ally, the Soviet Union and fighting a border war with
India in the 60s. Isolation, political and economic, reaches its highest levels with the outbreak of the
Cultural Revolution in 1966 until 1976 .

The Pros And Cons Of World History
World history is the study of direct and indirect interconnections, interdependences and linkages of
states, civilizations, cultures, religions and race. The study of world history allows historians to
inspect history on a wider scope, transcending state and ecological boundaries, analyzing the
impacts of social, political and economic exchanges on all of humanity as opposed to a narrow
national or regional account.
World history is vital in conveying how networks and linkages within society have led to a
globalized and cohesively social, political, economic, world.
However, it also exhibits the evolution and spread of ideologies, religions, cultures and politics in
order to understand and analyze global antagonisms, differences and conflicts. ... Show more

A Green History of the World by Clive Pointing Essay
A Green History of the World by Clive Pointing
A Green History of the World has been very educational reading and has given me a new
prospective on the environment. While I do disagree with some of Clive Pointing's views I have
learned a lot from his work. A Green History of the World was a very in–depth look at the past and
the future of our environment. Pointing raised my consciousness regarding the trials we face as
inhabitants of this great planet and left me with some food for thought.
After reading Chapter One I found myself entranced by the mystery of Easter Island and excited
about the information A Green History of the World had to offer. I had virtually no understanding of

The Easter Island Home Page is full of fascinating information regarding everything from the
discovery of Easter Island to modern day life on the island. Though there are many theories about
Easter Island, in my opinion no one really knows exactly what happened there. It seems to me that
the more factual data we discovered the more questions we create. I found it interesting that in a
recent archeological discovery they found that porpoises made up a large portion of the early
inhabitants' diet, which means that they would have had to have had some sort of "sea worthy"
vessel in which to hunt this animal. Remembering that when Easter Island was discovered the only
boats that were found were three small canoes (that were not sea worthy), they must have been
previously equipped with lager boats in order to hunt the porpoises. Another theory that I found
particularly entertaining was that extraterrestrial beings inhabited the island and were responsible for
the statues and their placement. Though I do not agree with all of the theories that I read, I am still
intrigued by Easter Island and after looking at the pictures of the Island on the Internet I would like
to travel there in the future. Easter Island is located off the coast of Chile and it cost approximately
$800.00 to fly there round trip from Chile, but what an experience it would be.

A Brief History of the World after 1450
The period 1450s saw an existence of powerful cities such as Asia, Africa, and Americas with
established trading networks over land and sea. Societies in Asia and the Middle East were the
world leaders in economics; in science and technology; and in shipping, trade, and exploration until
about AD 1500 (Goldstone, 2009). Europe emerged from the Middle Ages and entered its
Renaissance, well behind many of the advanced civilizations elsewhere in the world and did not
catch up with and surpass the leading Asian societies until about AD 1800 (Ibid). This history leads
one to enquire what was so special that the West did or have to rise to the current global stature that
it has become. Though presumptions have been to point to a unique European defined path to
success, these have been cast by a cloud of doubt following Japan's rise as the second largest
economy in the 1980s leaving the questions about the western origins of political and economic
ideas and institutions (Rosenthal and Wong, 2010).
During the nineteenth and twentieth century western thought explained the rise and dominance of
their region through biological causes, stating that they were genetically superior as only they had
evolved further than everyone else. Morris (2010) reputed this claim as mere scientific racism which
is defined as the act of justifying inequalities between natural groups of people by recourse to
science (Marks, 2012). He argues that people, wherever they are from, in large groups, are

World History: The Great Depression
The Great Depression was the longest and most widespread economic depression in world history.
Some may argue that wars or the issue of slavery were worse, I disagree. While wars only affect
groups of people or a few countries, and slavery mostly affected the black people and their
supporters, the Depression affected everyone, no matter the race and spread worldwide. Human
matters depend on differences and affect the lives of the people on the opposing sides. However,
economic matters can control the lives of all. The economic slump that lasted 10 years shaped the
nation and changed the lives of many forever. Many things happened that caused or were caused by
the Great Depression, such as starvation, stock market crashes, and poverty.

History is both similar and different from all other history studied from 5th grade till 8th grade.
Similarity in history is looking back to a time and noticing it was almost the same as what has

unlike a time before this or after. The perspective of World History is unique to the history studied
during 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Always looking at something from the same perspective gets to

Also I learned that people that couldn't join the army and remained home had contributed the war

Turning Points In World History
There are many turning points throughout world history. Some have shaped this world physically,
some economically, and most which we remember even to this day have shaped our world socially.
It is no secret that our world has been at odds for a very long period of time and that the leaders of
this world have very different aspects of how this world should be led as well as function. As most
can interpret these disagreements usually end in a form of conflict, war, even murder. However,
even though the grotesque thought that murders shaped our world today is distasteful, it is fairly
true. Assassinations in the world's past seemed to be quite common, murdering the leadership of an
enemy force could send the entire conflict crashing down, at least ... Show more content on

Muctaru Bah Professor Ann Reilly World History II World War I Essay At the turn of the 20th
century, the nations of Europe had been largely at peace with one another for nearly 30 years due to
efforts being made to ban war and achieve a permanent peace since the 19th century. Though
Europeans believed that this progress would make war a thing of the past, rising tensions would
cause a massive war that engulf Europe and spread across the globe. The boiling point ended up
being Austria–Hungary's declaration of war against Serbia setting off a chain reaction within the
alliance system. The countries of Europe followed through on their pledges to support one another.
As a result, nearly all of Europe soon joined what would be the largest, most destructive war the
world had yet seen. Said war was the First World War, an international war, involving multiple allied
European nations beginning in 1914 and ending 1918. The war drew in all the world's economic
great powers, two opposing alliances were formed: the Allies (based on the Triple Entente of the
United Kingdom, France, and the Russian Empire) and the Central Powers of Germany and Austria–
Hungary. This brutal war came at many costs for each participant as loss and suffering was
unforgiving. Whether their suffering was in the number of military forces who died, civilians who
were caught in the crossfire included, or the sheer destruction of the European homeland itself.

Wine, however, seemed to be the drink of the sophisticated demand. Not easily attainable and
expensive, many civilizations did not have the luxury of drinking wine and instead had to stick to
beer. For the Greeks and Romans however, wine played an important role in their everyday lives.
The consumption of wine led to a tradition of social drinking, which the Greek called symposion
and the Romans called convivium. In both gatherings, the people drank wine and had intellectual
discussions. To the Greeks and Romans, wine is what defined the sophisticated people from the
savages. Spirits, the last of the three alcoholic drinks, resulted from the distillation of wines and
beers, was a new popular alcohol that was particularly favored among sailors during exploration and
American colonists. When the sugar industry became established, Rum came into existence, created
by distilled the waste created by sugar production. By drinking grog, which had lime juice in it,
sailors were able to avoid getting scurvy, which reduced sailor deaths. Some slaves traders refused

The History Of The World Wide Web

  • 1. The History Of The World Wide Web The history of the World Wide Web was created on August 6th, 1991 by Tim Berners–Lee. (Bryant, 2012). Due to the creation of the World Wide Web, many things have changed. Websites have made everything either easier or more complicated. But, we will talk about the easier this world has gotten. Some websites that have made life easier are Facebook, Strayer University, Amazon, EBay, Google, Gmail, Yahoo, PayPal, Walmart, Schwan's, Myspace, Pogo, Trip Advisor, and Home Chef. These are just to name a few of the websites that have made our lives easier. I could not agree more, that technology is like the Devil to many households making parents' divorce due to lack of person to person communication, and it makes partners want to have infidelities in their relationships. But, nonetheless, websites like the ones I listed above are to make our lives easier. We will start with Social Networking sites. Social Networking sites, like Facebook, and Myspace, are to bring people closer to each other from distances away. I have known of many relatives finding each other after many years of not knowing each other, due to adoption and other circumstances. They always help connect business to the users. You will always see ads on the sides of Facebook while playing a game, if it is not full screen, of business that you might like. Social Networking can be the cause of distraction with family as well. There was a report of a lady playing Farmville, a very popular game on Facebook and it used to ... The world history movement emerged to challenge Eurocentrism because it wanted to establish a broader understanding of human history, not just studying world history subjective towards European, western civilizations. • 5. History And Evolution Of The Modern World Greg Marinos Western History to 1660 Dr. Smith 2/12/15 Advancement in Western Europe Progression, Enlightenment, and a sophisticated culture refinement are all factors that can portray the ideal civilized society. With all these factors in collaboration, we have a civilization, the highest form of human organization. In an organization, the living biotic creatures are given the ability to sustain and eventually assemble what they consider to be modern life. In ancient culture, prehistoric Mesopotamian and Egyptian cultures created what they believed to be a civilization. Through extensive use of resource and desire to evolve in humanity, both civilizations succeeded in leaving impact. However, Within Mesopotamian society, the long lasting impact of their inventions continues to provide a benefit to western civilization. Considering their advanced writing system, lunar calendar recordation, and revolutionary use of the wheel, Mesopotamia truly stood as a promising foundation for a lasting civilization. One of the primary Mesopotamian inventions was in form of writing; this was called "Cuneiform." The Mesopotamian word "Cuneiform" translates to wedge shaped. The Sumerian writing system used several thousand characters and some for sounds (Kagan 8). Using writing initially for recording the dealing of items, writing was beneficial to the development of a system that portrayed a good understanding of fair transactions. Cuneiform was written ... • 7. World History Dbq During the course of this analytical paper, we will look at the impact of warfare on world societies and people's consciousness, during the period of the 1500s in world history, called the Early Modern Period; also, we will discuss the consequences of the Great War. Additionally, apart from studying the altering methods of warfare and their magnitude, we will look up to different motivations of statesmen and peoples who declare wars or engage in several types of violent actions towards certain societies. Throughout the paper, we will stretch any pertinent evidence at appropriate points of what war leaders, intellectuals and common citizens view war and violence, which they experience during their life. Some of the examples include the Arabs that vastly expanded the world of Islam, yet were traditionally predatory in nature, which benefited more from the taxation of the conquered than from their conversion. There are also examples like the Mongol Empire, which was too, predatory, but differently from the Arab ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was also the period where they [Christians] began their subjection of the women and children, who were parted from the Indians to exploit them by consuming the food they provided by working hard. This example, showed that the Spaniards failed to content themselves by the food supplies provided by the Indians, "A Christian eats and consumes in one day, an amount of food that would suffice to feed three houses inhabited by ten Indians for one month" (p 610). And so, the Christians did not hold back and beat Indians with buffets until they laid hands on the nobles of the villages. Consequently, Indians behaved with a high degree of temerity and shamelessness that "the most powerful ruler of the islands had to see his own wife raped by a Christian officer". (p ... • 11. The History of Modern World The History of Modern World On August 6 and 9, 1945, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed by the first atomic bombs used in warfare, killing over 150,000 Japanese and inflicting radiation poisoning on more still. Five days later on August 14, Japan surrendered. The need to defeat Japan and to end the Second World War is the most commonly held view about dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Some argue however that this was not the main reason for dropping these two bombs in 1945. On April 12, 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died and so as Vice President, Harry S. Truman became the thirty–third American President. Roosevelt had failed to inform his vice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Benjamin Cohen justified the dropping of the bombs by saying, "Any weapon that would bring an end to the war and save a million casualties among American boys was justified and we were talking about dealing with the people who hadn't hesitated at Pearl Harbor to make a sneak attack destroying not only ships but the lives of many America soldiers." The US government used a lot of propaganda as a way to remind Americans of the attack on Pearl Harbor, this was mostly in the form of posters showing the atrocities of destroyed fleet. Many scientists and historians have questioned whether part of Truman's decision to drop the bombs was to test this new type of weapon. A previous nuclear test explosion was conducted in a desert in New Mexico however this did not show what the bombs were capable of in a populated area. Scientists did give Truman alternative locations to test the bombs such as uninhabited islands but the president wanted to properly see what the new weapon could do. A secret report sent to President Truman in April 1945 by the scientists who made the bomb said, " We remind you of the report sent to President Roosevelt in 1940. It spoke of the danger of radiation, which will kill men, women and children for several miles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. World History World History helps serve as markers of what we have become today as well as hints to what we will become. Ironically, it gives us a close perspective, while at the same time giving us a broader one. If we focused solemnly on American history, we would only be informed about situations only occurring in our country and would be closed off to the rest of the world. It helps us keep a large record of past events as either successes or failures and help us make decisions regarding the future. Some of those important markers that help us keep track of our history include literature, competition, unity, and expansion. One reason World history is a marker is because it of literature. We've managed to be more open to change and managed to move from "the traditional" to the "modern" because of new technology and the ability to store this information. History has allowed us to write our own future. Americans have learned that slavery is not correct and is one of the reasons why we have managed to make it part of our Amendments. We have managed to include women in our voting because we have learned that women are an important part of society and it would be foolish not to accept them as such. We have also managed to have a black president. It would be ignorant to say history is not important. History is very complex and without little changes like this we could have continued to be a much more segregated country. Its not to say that racism doesn't still exist, but that people are finding out that if we have things in common with people from the same area, we might also have things in common with people from across the country. Events are what help bring us together. What help us decide on who we are going to vote for the next election. • 15. World Trade Center History The Hidden History of One World Trade Center The tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, One World Trade Center is a new but emotionally– charged icon for New York City. The spiritual successor to the Twin Towers of the first World Trade Center, the tower rose from the ashes of 9/11 to become a symbol of both New York City and America's strength and resilience. Few people, however, really know the hidden history behind this iconic skyscraper. After the September 11 attacks, plans were quickly drawn up to rebuild the World Trade Center. After a contest was held to redevelop the complex, a proposal from architect Daniel Libeskind was selected as the winner in 2002. At the centerpiece of Libeskind's proposal was a new signature tower for the complex intended to soar to a symbolic 1,1776 feet into the air. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Concrete pouring for the new tower was completed in November 2007 and construction cranes were installed in January 2008, finally allowing full construction to commence in earnest. In 2009, the tower's name was changed from the Freedom Tower to One World Trade Center in an effort to make it easier to identify for the public. At time in history most European nations already had colonies and as the years went by, the land which was still independent was fought over fiercely. Italy and Germany were new world powers and both countries wanted to expand their boundaries. England was focused on maintaining it's already diminishing empire while Russia and Austro–Hungary were busy dividing the Balkans through force and politics. Each nation wanted to look and be stronger as a nation. Imperialism – the hunt for more land, lead to Militarism and Nationalism which helped create the war. • 19. World History in Context Essay Rebecca Nichols HIS 140 – A History of Humanity Essay 1 World History in Context, written by David Christian (2003), questions the context of world history as well as the complexity of human history and the societies with which they live. In Christian's article he argues that looking at world history in its global context, rather than one specific moment in history, is the way it is intended to be interpreted and allows historians to recognize reoccurring patterns and themes. World history is meant to be an unbiased account of only one specific species, humans (Christian 2003, 437–438). Historians often struggle with this challenging topic and tend to produce works extremely biased, usually towards stable 'western civilizations' and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though more complex, they are also more fragile and rare because the consumption of large energy flows is a challenging task (McNeill 2003, 319–320). For example, the colossal increase in size of the human brain over the past four million years has left us with the most complex structure in the universe, consuming the largest amount of energy proportionate to its size (Ponting 2000, 24). 'The brain consumes twenty percent of the energy necessary for the body but only accounts for two percent of its body mass' (Christian 2003, 455). This statistic clarifies doubt that the brain is anything other than an energy–hoarding structure, just as others of similar complexity. Human societies have also evolved from simple structures of early hunting–and–gathering communities to the more complex cosmopolitan cities of today. The hunting–and–gathering communities were fairly simple societies demanding the minimum of resources. Complexity grew with farming communities and more energy was necessary to sustain the larger populations and the demands of a stable, non–nomadic life. Early civilizations saw an increase in complexity with the introduction of specialization and trade. Which, again, required more energy to sustain even larger communities. Cultural evolution has evolved so much that cities today are only possible because of humans' ability to control energy by the movement of food across large distances to easily accessible locations (McNeill 2003, 320–321). ... Document five is written by a Muslim traveler and he is talking about the journey from Zaya to Maqdasha. All of these documents talk about travel and trade between various civilizations between 800 AD to 1400 AD. In Document one it talks about Zanj in East Africa and their trade goods. They have trade goods such as wild leopard skins, tortoise shells, and ivory. The tribe the Zanj lives in that area. They send their tusks to Oman and then are typically sent to China and India. • 23. Criticisms on the Studies of World History Essay In the late twentieth century, the study of world history has emerged to allow both historians and students to understand the world from a global perspective. World history is viewed to be part of the academic field than the research field. According to Charles Hedrick, author of The Ethics of World History, Western civilization was the main course taught in schools and universities before world history became part of the curriculum. The need to understand the world in a broader perspective compared to a Western perspective made the study of world history popular in the United States. This is most noticeable in patriotic world history. The development of world history from the Right created the "patriotic world history." This approached to world history advocated American values and accomplishments. Patriotic world history most obvious criticism is its Eurocentric perspective on world history. The patriotic world history serves its purpose by "legitimiz[ing] particular political values." It focuses on the values and experiences of European and Euro–American, while treating other societies as paths to avoid. Sometime patriotic world history "goes so far as to exclude most of the world's peoples and societies from world history." This approach is far from the original goals of world history to understand integration and differences between people and events without compromising other societies. Another criticism of patriotic world history is the lack of professional historians. Two advocates of patriotic world historians are Paul Ganon and Diane Ravitch. Powerful rulers, deadly diseases, and influential religions are a few common examples of these. But, one group of influential commodities to shape history that not many people consider is beverages. In particular, beer, wine, spirits, tea, coffee, and cola are six that have significantly shaped the course of history. The nonfiction book, A History of the World in 6 Glasses, written by Tom Standage, discusses the significance of these six popular drinks in relation to human culture shaping around their existence. The United States could never have been the superpower it is today had it not been for the contribution of the Slave Trade and spirits to our economy. However, when distillers in Newport began the production of rum with a higher alcohol content, meant specifically for use as currency in the slave trade, the English, who had previously provided spirits as made in the British sugar islands, became discontent with their new competition. The English then imposed a high tax on molasses so that it was more expensive to make rum in Newport. But, these new taxation laws were ignored completely. When the British did nothing about this, it created a newfound resentment and disregard of the British. This tax law influenced the fight for American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many fail to realize that some things never change. The ideas and beliefs that existed back then are still very prominent in the world today. Some that are still around are the themes of forgiveness, aggression, and anger. In the upcoming year these themes might occur with the class material quite often. Anger, an emotion we all experience, has been the reason for many of the problems the world faces today. Rage can come from something as minuscule as stubbing a toe or from a rejection of any kind. Essay on A History of the World in 6 Glasses A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage is a non–fiction historical novel, whose main purpose is to show the surprisingly pervasive influence of certain drinks on the course of history. Then it takes the reader on a journey through time to show the history of mankind through the lens of beverages. The thesis of the novel is that through history certain specialty beverages have affected more than just the diet of people and changed political aspects, economic standings, religious ceremonies and social views throughout human history. Standage clearly favors the subject written about and offers no information or analysis to disprove the thesis of the novel. Tom Standage is an author of 3 other novels, which are also historic ... Taverns were replaced with a more sophisticated meeting place, the coffeehouse. These "led to the establishment of scientific societies and financial institutions, the founding of newspapers, and provided fertile ground for revolutionary thought." [4] Once established as England's national drink, tea imports from first China and India led to massive trade. The book describes the power of the British East India Company, which "generated more revenue than the British government and ruled over far more people," wielding more power than any other corporation in history. [5] This imbalance of power had an enormous effect on British foreign policy, and led to the independence of the U.S. Like most of the drinks discussed in this novel, Coca–Cola was originally devised as a medical drink. More than any other product, Coca–Cola has stood as the symbol of America's "vibrant consumer capitalism." • 31. How History Has Shaped The World From the beginning of time, humans have been developing physically and mentally into the brightest and most successful beings on earth. We've discovered lands, invented medicines and technology, and endured through catastrophic episodes. Everything we use in our daily lives has evolved from its original state. Some life–changing events occurred last year, or maybe centuries ago. Most people couldn't care less how, why, when, and where occasions were taken place and think learning about the past is useless, but I have to disagree. As a student who has been taking social studies classes since the 1st grade, I believe learning about historical people and events that have shaped the world into being what it is today, is important. History is very important to me because it dwells within the past and tells its events so thoroughly that you can almost imagine yourself living in that period. Plus, knowing the tragedies and mistakes made in the past had and still helps us build a fair and just lifestyle. Studying history gives people the answers they've been wondering about, such as curiosity of how and why World War II is an unforgettable piece of the past we all know about. ... Pros And Cons Of New World History "New world history emerged at a time of dramatic expansion in the thematic scope of historical analysis" There are many forms of looking at history, the most prominent being Eurocentric and nation–state perspectives. However from the 20th to the 21st century up to date, historians have begun straying away from these view points and gravitating towards the world history perspective. Here I will briefly look at the pros, cons and implementation of the world history view point using the example of the end of slavery in Africa. World history helped steer away from viewing Africa as a receiving force but rather as a contributing force. In the 18th century the abolishment of slave trade was becoming a spreading norm in European countries and Britain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflective Essay: AP World History And European History Club It is unfair to study an entire chronicle of past events spanning nearly four million years in a fast– paced three years of high school, nor is it to deprive pedantic judgment from and compose bombastic essays by my limited experience. It is worthwhile to spend my year of secondary four to ruminate in ivory tower of scholarship, from where I depart to hold sway in clubs to engage schoolmates and friends to inspire and establish thoughts, apart from formal, intense inquiry into my core and elective subjects. World war 2 was the bloodiest conflict, more than 40 million were found killed. The principal belligerents were the Axis powers–Germany, Italy, and Japan–and the Allies–France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, and, to a lesser extent, China. The war was in many respects a continuation, after an uneasy 20–year hiatus, of the disputes left unsettled by World War II (Royde–Smith). First of all, German on September 1 invaded Poland. Access to education is among the basic human rights and everyone should have the same opportunities. No one should be discriminated against because of their background, religion, gender or age. Inequality in education is connected to major problems in our society. The Pakistan constitution has an article called Article 25A. Which is the Right to education. It states that the government of Pakistan is responsible for providing free and compulsory education. Unfortunately, the government only goes so far. • 43. History Of Internet On The World Josh Margolis EMF140 November 2, 2015 History of Internet Before the the Internet was created, linking the world, human beings were already thinking with a connected mind. While messages obviously were unable to be transferred electronically, humans invented different ways to trade information and news with other people. Firstly was the post. In order to send a friend a message, a letter would have had to been written and mailed. Mailing messages was a long process, often taking days to get one message to another person. This method (still used today) was not the most convenient because there is no urgency or speed in mailing a letter. Luckily in the mid 1800's the telegraph was invented. Sent for the first time in 1838, the telegraph was the first instance of sending a message (4). A telegraph is defined "as the transmission of textual or symbolic messages without the physical exchange of an object. This is the first instance of a message being sent in a "virtual" sense (2). While messages could be delivered through the mail within a matter of days, a telegraph could be transmitted live. At the time this was quite a feat. When studying the creation of the internet, it is important to remember that not one single man directly created the web that we know today. Rather, many brilliant minds, over time, added and refined the experience for the greater good. Originally, the earliest version of the internet was constructed as a tool for US warfare. Hence, many readers of this book perceive the contents of it to be comparable to a world history textbook. For example, Cathy Duffy asserts "I can't use the word "textbook" to describe it since it would be a drastic misrepresentation of the book's style. Yet, the contents of the book are somewhat similar to a world history survey covering prehistory up through World War II even though Gombrich does not try to cover every event" (Duffy 1). Though there are many theories about Easter Island, in my opinion no one really knows exactly what happened there. I found it interesting that in a recent archeological discovery they found that porpoises made up a large portion of the early inhabitants' diet, which means that they would have had to have had some sort of "sea worthy" vessel in which to hunt this animal. Remembering that when Easter Island was discovered the only boats that were found were three small canoes (that were not sea worthy), they must have been previously equipped with lager boats in order to hunt the porpoises. Another theory that I found particularly entertaining was that extraterrestrial beings inhabited the island and were responsible for the statues and their placement. Societies in Asia and the Middle East were the world leaders in economics; in science and technology; and in shipping, trade, and exploration until about AD 1500 (Goldstone, 2009). Europe emerged from the Middle Ages and entered its Renaissance, well behind many of the advanced civilizations elsewhere in the world and did not catch up with and surpass the leading Asian societies until about AD 1800 (Ibid). This history leads one to enquire what was so special that the West did or have to rise to the current global stature that it has become. Though presumptions have been to point to a unique European defined path to success, these have been cast by a cloud of doubt following Japan's rise as the second largest economy in the 1980s leaving the questions about the western origins of political and economic ideas and institutions (Rosenthal and Wong, 2010). During the nineteenth and twentieth century western thought explained the rise and dominance of their region through biological causes, stating that they were genetically superior as only they had evolved further than everyone else. World History : World War I Muctaru Bah Professor Ann Reilly World History II World War I Essay At the turn of the 20th century, the nations of Europe had been largely at peace with one another for nearly 30 years due to efforts being made to ban war and achieve a permanent peace since the 19th century. Though Europeans believed that this progress would make war a thing of the past, rising tensions would cause a massive war that engulf Europe and spread across the globe. The boiling point ended up being Austria–Hungary's declaration of war against Serbia setting off a chain reaction within the alliance system. The countries of Europe followed through on their pledges to support one another. As a result, nearly all of Europe soon joined what would be the largest, most destructive war the world had yet seen. Said war was the First World War, an international war, involving multiple allied European nations beginning in 1914 and ending 1918. The war drew in all the world's economic great powers, two opposing alliances were formed: the Allies (based on the Triple Entente of the United Kingdom, France, and the Russian Empire) and the Central Powers of Germany and Austria– Hungary. This brutal war came at many costs for each participant as loss and suffering was unforgiving.
