The cashier notices the man's dancing and she turns up the music to encourage him. This is the first
– and probably only – entertainment she's had working this shift.
The man clearly knows he's being watched. He starts to put on a show, dancing dramatically through
the store and then faking a fall to get the cashier out from behind the register. When she walks over
to check on him, he sneaks up on her and tries to pull her into his dance. This surprises and annoys
her at first, but her reaction changes quickly from anger and distrust to a shy happiness. She gives in
and starts dancing with the man as if they were two friends who have known each other for a long
time.
She continues dancing and enjoying herself, even after the man has walked away. It's only a few
seconds later that the cashier opens her eyes and realizes the man is stealing money from the cash
register. He knows she's watching him, but he continues with his business and then he leaves the
store. She follows him out, but he drives off, leaving the cashier confused and a little hurt. It's
almost as if she feels abandoned because he left her at her boring job and took the music and fun

as mysterious.
To begin the second stanza, the traveler turns back to what lies immediately before him, trying to
evaluate the second road. In reading this stanza it is important to remember the poem is being
narrated after–the–fact. The narrator is giving feelings he had at the time along with the knowledge
he has now. Because neither path has an obvious advantage, the traveler makes himself believe the
second road "was grassy and wanted wear" even though "the passing there had worn them about the
same." As we often do, the traveler conjures up a reason to do something, even though there is no
logical explanation for doing it. The path appears as if it "wanted wear," drawing the narrator in. The
narrator realizes now his past compulsion and sees that neither path had any "better claim."
Even though the narrator has decided on the second path, he "kept the first for another day." The
traveler wants to take the first road some day to find out how his life could have been. Even with
this compelling sense of wonder, the narrator knows "how way leads on to way" and that he hasn't
enough time to change every past decision in order to lead a different life. In this third stanza, the
traveler finally goes on his way, but, like most would, he takes along a nagging wonder.

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken, is a poem, or even a tale many
readers will relate to. It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the individual
is faced with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost throughout. His
use of imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub–thoughts is extraordinary, yet he
does it with such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it reads and view the story
of a solemn traveler pacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual text one sees that Frost is
trying to paint a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is written a way that anybody who
reads it can understand and relate. From each of the simple lines to the groupings of intricately
placed words, this work of art brings out the meaning and passion in a well lived life. In the first
stanza the setting is laid out before us. A fork in the road in the middle of a yellow wood. These two
paths are unknown to the solemn traveler. The first line in the poem states "yellow wood," which
gives the feeling that it would be more of an autumn season. The autumn season is the beginning of
dormancy in the forest life. It also signals the nearing end of another joyous year. In life we have
cycles just like the seasons cycle. Periods of new growth such as spring or a new relationship
perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying the things we have to the fullest. There is fall, when
something nears to an end such as a vacation, the ending of the year or maybe childhood when one
must think about getting out in the world. Then, there is winter: the darker portion of the cycle of
life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to begin or praying for the hurt to subside.
This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the road
or the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new path. Just
as it is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the next set of
choices or paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both. Just as the
traveler we, too, must choose a path for ourselves.

weave together "time, space, place and pace" in a global journey around the world. Using examples

between time, space, and pace while at the same time reflecting certain cultural and social
assumptions about place.

first, "She is as in a field a silken tent". This signifies the fact that Frost chose to compare Kay (the
woman he fell for) to a silken tent. Frost may have chosen for the tent to be silk to express the soft

"The Road Not Taken" Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken" describes a traveler faced with
a choice of which one of two roads to travel. He knows not where either road might lead. In order to
continue on his journey, he can pick only one road. He scrutinizes both roads for the possibilities of
where they may take him in his travels. Frost's traveler realizes that regret is inevitable. Regardless
of his choice, he knows that he will miss the experiences he might have encountered on the road not

back. He also tries to make the best of his decision by saying that it has "made all the difference."
(20). In "The Road Not Taken", images of the bright woods and wide open opportunity to choose are
contrasted with the indecision and regret of only being able to travel one path. Word choice and a
slight sorrowful tone reinforce the theme of regret. Frost presents divergent roads as a metaphor for

The traveller glances over at the gripping train. Engaged with the train's current appearance, the
traveler grips on his half–finished coffee and attempts to rapidly finish it while seeking at the train's
atmosphere. In correlation, he wobbles his slender legs hopelessly, like a child making every effort
to hold in their urine, then runs with so much swift to the door. In the meantime, the bartender of the
