Essay about Seamus Heaney s Portrayal of Pain and Suffering
Seamus Heaney s Portrayal of Pain and Suffering
Heaney, born 1939 was one of the nine children of Margaret and Patrick Heaney who ran a family
farm in Mossbawn, Northern Ireland. Heaney enrolled at Queen s College in 1957 after attending his
local town school and opting not to follow in his fathers success of being a farmer. He took up a
position as a lecturer at St. Joseph s College, Belfast 1963! He then went on to acheive a scholarship
in English Language and Literature, also devoting spare time to a poetry group. His success in
impressing fellow poets, subsequently lead to his poetry being sent to England for publishing in 1964.
The following year, Heaney became married to Marie Delvin, who ... Show more content on

I think this signifies innocense of how a baby would not be able to appreciate its brother s death, but
also that babies aren t expected to either. It is oblivious to a baby as to what and why an occurance like
this is all around it. The baby is obviously the only being there who is not expected to mourn.
Heaney s father, also, holds a similar state of mind like a baby in a sense. He appears to be weak when
he thinks about the death of such a loved family member. However, the father unlike a baby is very
sorrowful and shows emotion. He had always taken funerals in his stride , makes me think that this
must be the first life loss that has been an upsetting shock to him.
I saw him for the first time in six weeks. Paler now... This was an image that obviously layed within
Heaney s memories, and he finally had the chance to reveal it with expression. Seeing the dead body
of someone you love can be disturbing, but for Heaney he thought of it differently as he described the
atmosphere candles soothed the bedside . My thoughts of a room like that would be depressing unlike
Heaney s. I find it a misleading and unusual perspective.
The Early Purges
My immediate response to this poem was quite shocking! Heaney uses distasteful language the
scraggy wee shits to describe kittens, and what was to be expected of the treatment towards them.

Pathos In The Other Face
Black holes are very huge formations in the space that have a tremendous tendency for absorbing
everything in the surrounding, and so our personalities are. We are born as void memory children who
couldn t differentiate between right and wrong. However, we were also programmed in a certain
manner that tells us what we are supposed to be, or exhibit. Socialization is a main clue which is
regarded as a programming utility for our personalities. Therefore, Salma Shalash, in The Other Face,
had a desire in shedding the light over the effect of personality programming, socialization, on
relationships, with respect to gender considerations. Shalash conducted her message by writing a short
temporary Egyptian story of a couple, being about to marry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pathos was used explicitly by grabbing the emotions and feeling of the audience by the unexpected
spontaneous reaction of the fiancĂŠe ( Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ), showing her real mask, when she
noticed that her relationship and marriage are subjected to danger. Ethos is achieved by relying on a
divorced axial character, a friend of hers. The former dependence paves the audience mind for the fact
that marriage, at that environment, ceases being a divorce when problems, related to misperceiving
personalities, arise among couples. The author also accounted for the left brain audience who are
mainly interested in one to one events; consequently, Logos , as a persuasion mode, was used as a
transition between Shalash s knowing that her relationship with Fouad would be adversely affected
and her spontaneous reaction, based on her character, of the unexpected visit. To sum up, The Other
Face, by Salma Shallash, managed to conduct the message, triggered by the author s exigency, through
a theoretical writing model integrating both persuasion and original writing style. Salma Shallash, in
her story, assures the common Egyptian motto: Everything is with disagreement, except for marriage .
She also emphasizes that actions can be evaluated in different ways according to the one s perspective
in perceiving them. Therefore, a key to success and relax is the multi dimensional, or versatile,

Realism and Idealism for the Godfather Essay
Realism and Idealism for the Godfather
I will never forget what I felt when I first seen my first mobster movie, I was about 12 years old, it
was real late at night and I just could not fall asleep. I was flipping the channels looking for something
to watch, and that is when I encountered my first mobster movie. I was intrigued from beginning to
end; it was like nothing I had ever seen before. The way they talked so confident and cool to the way
they looked so sharp and sophisticated. Although they were ruthless criminals, they had certain
respectability towards them that no body could deny. Even though I was young and didn t quite

Without sound, the gangster films could not come to life. It was the 1930s that the events of the
prohibition era such as bootlegging and the St. Valentines Day Massacre of 1929, and the existence of
real life gangsters and the rise of contemporary organized crime helped to encourage this genre. The
talkies are accounted for the rise of crime films. The first talkie 100% all talking picture and, of
course, the first sound gangster film was The Lights of New York in 1928. Martin Sorcese, Brian De
Palma, and Francis Ford Coppolla, who also directed the Godfather, have become the best storytellers
of the gangster culture using visual storytelling. To them gangster films are moralities tales and
success stories turned around in which criminals are the ones living in a dream world of success and
wealth. Although they are destined to failure and possible death, criminals are portraying as the
victims because the stories are told from their point of view. Great actors like Pacino, Deniro, who
both played in the Godfather and Pesci also had an influence in making the gangster/mafia culture
what it is today, by playing their parts so unbelievable well that their attitude, dialogue, and cold
hearted cruelty on the screen transforms the modern day

The Number Of Gay Bars And Clubs
The number of gay bars and clubs increased in number throughout the 1970s. However, as the number
of businesses geared towards LGBT individuals increased they also migrated. The area that they
settled around in the 1990s is located is called Lakeview East; Lakeview East, West Lake View, and
Wrigglyville are the three smaller communities that make up the larger Lakeview neighborhood. More
specifically, the businesses were clustered around Clark Street and Halsted Street. In 1997 Chicago s
Mayor, Richard M. Daley, officially recognized the area as a gay neighborhood. This area, now known
as Boystown, was the first gay neighborhood in the United States of America to be officially
recognized by the government. The same year city planners under the direction of the Mayor s office
devised a plan to create a streetscape that marked North Halsted Street as being a gay neighborhood.
This project was in line with similar projects in ethnic neighborhoods. For instance, the metal Puerto
Rican flag sculptures in Humbolt Park that were mentioned above were created as part of one of the
projects. The design for the streetscape included several pylons along North Halsted Street and, after
complaints that the pylons would mark connected areas as being gay, flower planters to mark side
streets. As quoted by Curt Winkle in Planning and LGBTQ Communities: The Need for Inclusive
Queer Spaces, the designs from the Chicago Department of Transportation specified that the columns

Monica ` S Presence In Augustine s Life
Monica s presence in the spiritual life of Augustine poignantly reveals the profundity of love shared
between a mother and her son. In the nine books in which she is mentioned, Monica makes significant
decisions that have a substantive impact on Augustine s early life. Despite being a devout Catholic,
Monica chooses to delay the baptism of her son until later in life. While this would be unusual for a
contemporary member of the Catholic church, Monica believed it was in the best interest of Augustine
to defer his baptism, allowing him to purge himself of his sinful and ungodly desires present during
his youth with baptism received at an older age. As such, Monica minimizes the accumulation of sin
that Augustine may commit after his baptism, thus allowing him to be to be judged more warmly by
God after his death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
13). Early on, Augustine is unsure of the validity of his mother s decision, considering her to have
failed in her role, as he believed he would be less sinful if baptized at a younger age, eliminating the
ritual s absence as an excuse for him to continue committing sin. Augustine s blaming Monica for not
leading him on the correct spiritual path, proliferates as he grows older as he deplores her apparent
lack of effort in restraining his sexual desires. He laments, ...although she had warned me to guard my
virginity...she did not seek to restrain my sexual drive within the limit of the marriage bond (pg. 28).
However, Augustine s sentiment that his mother did not put forth great enough effort to restrict his
desire slowly dissipates, as he struggles on the path to salvation. Augustine begins to recognize the
significant role Monica played in his conversion, emphasizing the role she played as both a physical
mother and spiritual

Similarities Between Dewey Finn And Bill Rago
The essay illustrates the differences and similarities of Dewey Finn played by Danny DeVito from the
movie The School of Rock and Bill Rago played by Jack Black from the movie Renaissance Man .
They both undergo the life changing experiences and this essay will elaborate on both before and after
they become teachers. Both have the same goal; however, they choose different paths to obtain it.
While Jack Black is more enthusiastic and shows somewhat of a desperate desire to connect with
children, On the other hand, Danny DeVito is calmer and perceived as apathetic. However, they share
one key aspect of their characteristics they both seem to suffer from an inferiority complex. Dewey
Finn and Bill Rago were two people with very similar qualities. Dewey Finn was characterized as a
person who was very arrogant and was extrapolated as being haughty. He was a lazy person and was
disliked by many due to his behavior and was unaware of his own problems or probably cared less.
For instance, Dewey was warned by his roommate to be kicked out of his apartment because he had
not paid the rent for at least a year. This showcased as to how indolent a person may be. Whereas, Bill
Rago is just analogous as Dewey Finn. They also depict as to how self assertive he was; these
characteristics made him lose a lot of opportunities to succeed, in life. For instance, he could not reach
his office on time and lost a 6 million deal which was going on. This is the world in which both are

Analysis Of Mlk Letter To Martin Luther King
Today in the United States, we are told that we are one of the best when it comes to having freedom;
of course that was not always the case. As a nation, we have come a long way; but unfortunately we
still are not all equal. As for 53 years ago, Marin Luther King Jr. was the man trying his best to pave
the way for having equal freedoms for everyone, especially blacks. With the letter that MLK wrote, it
ended up being more than a letter, but a piece of literature that was eventually published in his book.
He is excellent when it comes to his words, he was able to speak his mind and portray his words
emotionally. His thoughts were well thought out and written passionately, especially since they were
written in a jail cell. This letter started a pivotal movement in the civil rights era, and is something
people will always be talking about for years to come. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is what started his ideas for making a movement. He was tired of waiting for the government to
do something about the unjust freedom that blacks have been getting. With this letter to the clergy
men, he hopes to insert emotion into the people to do what is right and to grant people with their God
given rights. I have never experienced oppression or seen a severe incident in person but I cannot
image what King and his family had to go through before and after him being arrested. I also could
not image what our world would took like today if this letter had never been written. If not, our whole
country could be oppressed and would still be running directly by the rich white communities. Obama
might not have ever become president because he would have still been in the minority where blacks
could not be a part of the government, let alone be able to

Sunset Boulevard Film Analysis
Billy Wilder s famous and well known film called Sunset Boulevard is a masterpiece for the ages.
Even though it is in black and white, don t think it isn t good. This film has so many twist and turns,
the audience doesn t know what s going to happen next (even though you know the Writer in the
movie is going to die because of the flash back). I thought the movie was interesting with the
beginning of the film when they start out with the dead man floating motionless in the pool as police
officers rush to the senses to understand what had happened to the dead movie writer. Also, later in the
film that really interested me that was never answered in the film was the funeral for the dead ape and
how it had anything to do with the plot of the movie.
Sunset Boulevard is a film about a forgotten, living in her own world of being an old silent star
crushed by new films with sound in her enormous mansion with just herself and her butler. As she just
sits inside her house watching her old films, dreaming of her comeback and how it would bring her
back as being the biggest star on hollywood. But the film isn t just a story about an unremembered
famous actress, it s also a story about love, and this love theme helps makes the film seem more
interesting instead of a boring movie about an old actress living in her glory days. Gloria Swanson
plays the silent star trying to get back on top named Norma Desmond, with her role of a being a
spoiled, innocent, and living in her dreams plays

The Negative Effects Of Cigarettes
Cigarettes kill more Americans than suicide, vehicular accidents, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ADIS, and
homicides combined. Cigarettes do not support or benefit the public in a positive way. Cigarettes are
filled with thousands of chemicals and are highly addictive. Cigarettes have caused numerous mental
and physical problems for smokers and the people who surround them, impacting families,
communities and society. Cigarettes and tobacco should become an illegal drug in North America. The
negative traits of smoking outweigh the positive traits; tobacco should not be accessible to the public.
Smoking kills these two words should be very familiar. The effects of first hand smoke from cigarettes
are pathetically publicize, barley educating the public about the dangers and life threatening problems
and illness associated with smoking. Although the understanding that smoking cigarettes can kill you
has been established in the minds of Americans, the effects of second hand and thirdhand smoke has
not. Two thirds of the smoke from a cigarette is not draw in by the smoker, but enters the air and
environment around the smoker, this smoke is exactly the same as the third of smoke that was inhaled
into the lungs of the smoker. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second and third hand smoke may cause cancers
of the larynx (voice box), pharynx (throat), bladder, nasal sinuses, rectum, breast, brain, stomach in
adults and brain tumours, lymphoma and leukemia in children. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second hand
smoke is the smoke inhaled involuntary by others produced by burning tobacco.
Unfortunately second hand smoke has twice the chemicals originate in the direct inhalation of tobacco
found in cigarettes. ( Secondhand Smoke ) Non smokers who inhale the polluted air are likely to get
many serious diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (emphysema and chronic
bronchitis), heart disease, lung cancer, asthma and other diseases. ( Second Hand Smoke ) Third hand
smoke can have the same impact as second hand smoke; third hand smoke is the tobacco smoke that
gets trapped hair, skin, fabric, carpet, furniture, and toys. Third hand smoke contains the same toxic
chemicals as second hand smoke and has the same effect on the body;

My Grandparents In Puerto Ricans
My grandparents were both born and raised in Cidra, Puerto Rico and so were their three children.
They wanted to start a new beginning. Though the exact date is forgotten my grandparents moved to
Cleveland, Ohio sometime in 1989. My grandparents were very poor when they lived in Puerto Rico
since there were not many job opportunities and barely any resources, my grandparents could barely
make ends meet. They wanted to give their children to have more opportunities and resources that they
didn t have when they were younger, so they decided to leave their home in Cidra. They choose to
move to Cleveland because they already had some family down here such as brothers, sisters, and
even cousins. When my grandparents got to Cleveland they already knew they made the right decision
for their family, Cleveland gave them a more stable life then what they had in Puerto Rico. There were
better educated schools in Cleveland for their children unlike in Puerto Rico, the food in Cleveland
was way more affordable, medicine as well, and it was easier to find jobs that paid well.
The first migration wave for Puerto Ricans came in 1917 when almost 2,000 people went to New
York. Another wave of Puerto Ricans traveled to New York in the 1940s. Similar to my family, the
Puerto Ricans went to New York to have fresh starts and to find new opportunities to better
themselves. They were also looking for jobs since there was a very high unemployment rate in Puerto
Rico that still somewhat exists today.

The Vampire Is Not A New Manifestation Of The Fears Of A...
The vampire is not by any means a new manifestation of the fears of a society. Their presence in
human culture can be traced back for centuries in human folklore. The first Anglicized representations
of the creature in literature date back to the English poetry of the early 1700s, and were then followed
in the fiction genre by such works as John William Polidori s The Vampyre, Sheridan Le Fanu s
Carmilla, and of course, Bram Stoker s Dracula. For the audiences of the 18th century, vampires
embodied many of the following common fears shared between the people: of illness, both mental and
epidemic, of an embraced sexuality, particularly that of women s and homosexuals , and of foreigners.
As the archetypical vampire evolved throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Butler s vampires do not embody the fears and anxieties of the society they infiltrate; rather, Butler
shifts the monstrosity from the vampiric figure to the social ills those figures face. The reader is not
inspired to reject the vampire as villain but rather to demonize the systematic oppression which, in the
case of Fledgling, the protagonist struggles against. The vampire then, in Butler s work, has evolved
beyond its current literary form. Science is as integral as myth in the text, and Shori, Butler s dark
skinned, female, sanguinarian protagonist is not only a progressive creature of legend but a
manufactured being blending the technology of the human body with that of the Ina. Shori cannot
simply be categorized alongside many other vampires because of this distinction she stands above and
beyond, blending race and transcending concepts of creation and origin in order to forge a new
identity for the vampire in literature. She truly stands as a stepping point toward the elusive cyborg a
new biological citizenship being crafted by her very existence in Butler s universe, and what else is
the cyborg but an attempt at that very determination of self? Before addressing the cyborg, the concept
of the other and its place in Butler s novel must be addressed as the bridge between the two theories.
Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel was one of the first philosophers to define the concept of otherness and the
other.

Hector Berlioz, My Favorite Composer
Hector Berlioz, my favorite composer, (born December 11, 1803ㅡdied March 8, 1869) is deemed one
of the greatest who, ...[contributed] to the modern orchestra with his Treatise on Information. His
mental state and life shaped a composer who had such a raw, creative sound that is reflected
prominently in his works, such as Symphonie fantastique and La Damnation de Faust.
During the age of where he was to attend school, France was at war and as a result he had to be taught
by his father who first introduced the young boy to music, which I think was the moment he sparked
an interest in music. By the age of twelve he was composing for large chamber groups where he was
taught to play the flute and guitar. As every father has dreams for their kids, he sent Berlioz off to

Importance Of Coffee Essay
Coffee: the average American s boost of energy in the morning. As a typical American student, I find

Which type will give me the caffeine I need? To answer these questions, I set out on a quest to

This roasting process brings out the flavor of the coffee beans. Without it, coffee would taste similar to
a plant instead of the drink all Americans know and love. There are four different types of roasts: light,
medium, medium dark, and dark. The National Coffee Association describes the light roast as a pale
brown color, a milder taste compared to a dark roast, and, on the surface of the beans themselves,
there is no oil present. The medium roast is an medium brown color with a stronger flavor than the
light roast. It s commonly referred to as the American Roast because it is preference of most
Americans. With a rich, dark color and a bittersweet aftertaste, the medium dark roast is a step up
from the medium roast. Its beans, unlike the light roast beans, are slightly oily on the surface. Dark
roasts are the strongest out of the four kinds. To create these, roasters use shiny black beans, and roast
them until they have an oily surface. The taste of this roast is far stronger than any of the other roasts;
this creates a bitter and less acidic taste (National Coffee Institute). Because I love the taste of coffee,
but strong coffee is too powerful for me, my best option is to go with a medium roast. Most people in
the United States prefer this roast, so I can t go wrong.

What Does It Mean To Be A Good Girl
Growing up I was often told what it means to be a good girl...
A good girl doesn t wear make up.
A good girl doesn t date.
A good girl doesn t argue with anyone.
A good girl sits home, doesn t talk much, and accepts what her family says.
A good girl does not have an opinion.
In Afghanistan a good girl enters her husband s house in a white dress and leaves in a white shroud. A
shroud is something one wears after death. Meaning that a good girl is to tolerate anything. Whether
its abuse or just an unhappy marriage because she is a good girl the only time she will leave is in the
shroud. She is to be her father s daughter. Make him proud by staying home and helping her mother
with chores. A father s daughter will marry young before she gives her family a bad name. According
to these social norms, I am not a good girl, my mother is not a good girl, Malala Yousafzai is not a

Elisabetta Sirani And Anguissola
Since the beginning of time the utmost of woman was known to be found in the character of a wife, a
mother, a sister and that of a daughter. If a woman found herself with a brilliant mind and a talent it
was thought to best keep it a secret. Despite the physical and mental constraints on women, they have
been able to negotiate the expectation of gender and the professional practice of art by achieving
artistic excellence, virtue, and a great share in social responsibility.
The following essay will argue this in relation to two self portraits by Elisabetta Sirani and Sofonisba
Anguissola, who were both born in Italy in the 15th and 16th century. The aspect of both self portraits
that stands out, is the way in which the artists have depicted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the age of 14 both sofonisba and her younger sister Elena were sent out by their father, who
strongly believed in properly educating his daughters, to go and study painting under Bernardino
Campi, a respected local painter. Anguissola also went on to study under Bernardino Gatti, Through
this period she began receiving encouragement from Michelangelo and many other fellow artist.
Sofonisba went on to become the first known established female artist both nationally and
internationally.
In Self Portrait At Easel Anguissola has choosen to show the portrait she is painting within the frame,
creating a layered active effect of a painting within a painting. From her actions in this piece the
viewer derives that the setting is a space where the artist works. Everything but herself and the
painting is a negative space, further accentuating her process of painting.
It is interesting the scene Anguissola has choosen to depict in her process of painting. It is a very
feminine depiction of Virgin and Christ Child bringing to mind that a woman is a creator in her
birthright and her physical capacity to hold a life inside her body. The artist also choose to show her
palette with colours to suggest her knowledge and ability to discern the use of colours in her skill as a

Essay on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as Modern Fantasy
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as Modern Fantasy
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written by an unknown author in the 14th century, can be called a
timeless work of poetry. It exudes a certain fantastic quality that, despite its age of over 500 years, still
appeals to modern audiences. Because of this application to all eras, would it be reasonable to state
that this poem could be classified with modern fantasy fiction? Because of the similarities in plot and
style with so much modern fantasy, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight could be placed in the same
category with that genre, though the uses of doing so are questionable.
In plot, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has elements which are similar to much modern ... Show

From when the Green Knight is beheaded and proceeds to pick up his head, give a wicked grin, and
say essentially, I ll see you in a year, (ll. 423 456) it is clear that magic will play in integral part in the
narrative. The confirmation of enchantment by Morgan le Faye (ll. 2446 2462) finishes the plot as it
began it: in a state of magical unreality. Such enchantment is typical of modern fantasy, particularly
from writers of modern fairy tales. Indeed, Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling have essentially made
their careers editing compilations of these tales, such as the popular Snow White, Blood Red and its
several follow ups. To increase the fairy tale style feel of the story, the Green Knight is called an elf
(ll. 680, 2461) and faery. (l. 240) There is clear indication that this can easily be called a fairy tale.
Stylistically, the visual and concrete nature of the poem lends itself to modern comparison as well. The
delightful accounts of the changing of the seasons are in part to indicate the passage of time, but also
add mood to the whole of the piece. Present day fantasy writer Patricia McKillip has been critically
lauded for lush imagery and stories described as atmospheric... and filled with rich imagery. Clearly
the descriptions are an important part of the style that makes modern

Introduction To Identity The Unknow Acid Solution
The purpose of this experiment is to identity the unknow acid solution through determining the Ka
value of the reaction experimentally. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1,
with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan.
Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher
Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in
test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1.
So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Dichloroacetic acid is the second
strongest in those 4 acids; this suggests that unknown acid 3 is dichloroacetic acid.

According to Le Chatelier s principle, the equilibrium shifts to the left, making Phenolphthalein
colorless. At a high ph level where the H3O concentration is low, the equilibrium shifts to the right,

strong acid strong base titration. In a weak acid and strong base titration, the equivalence point would
be above 7 due to the reaction occur between the conjugated base and water. This often makes the pH
value detectable by Phenolphthalein. In a strong acid and strong base titration where the equivalence
point is 7, the spike of pH around equivalence point is huge and all indicators at this range change
color at the same volume of acid or base. Therefore, using Phenolphthalein in this case won t cause

Elko County Should Build Vocational Schools
Did you know that Nevada has the lowest graduation rate in the country? If there were more
vocational schools, which were offered at a lower cost, maybe this rate would be higher. Even just
vocational programs in public high schools would greatly improve the graduation rate. Students who
are not engaged in the normal curriculum would have the opportunity to take classes that interest them
in the field of study they choose. Elko County should build vocational schools for students who know
what career they want to pursue, because they should have the opportunity to get the skills needed for
the career, start working towards getting a good paying job right out of high school, and encourage
students in Nevada to graduate high school.
There is a large group of students who by high school know what career they want outside of high
school. These students deserve to have the opportunity to start learning skills needed for that career by
bringing more vocational schools to states like Nevada where the graduation rate is so low. The latest
figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show that about 68% of high school students
attend college. That means over 30% graduate with neither academic nor job skills (Wyman, Why We

George S. Patton s Accomplishments
George S. Patton
George S. Patton was one of the most highly regarded and successful military leaders in the history of
the United States. His military career spanned from the expedition into Mexico throughout WWII. His
ability to inspire his troops with his profane filled speeches and his position of always leading from
the front gained him vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders considered him too controversial
and intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his determination and success as a
commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of America s war efforts has established
him as one of the greats in American military history.
At a young age George S. Patton knew he wanted to be in the military. His ancestors had served in the
American Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. (Randall and Nahr iii) This is largely the
reason behind his intense determination and drive. Fueled off their tales of bravery and heroic
endeavors, he never had a doubt that he was going to live the life of a military hero. Despite a learning
disability, many believe he had dyslexia, he would go onto to attend the Virginia Military Institute and
ultimately graduate from West Point. Upon his graduation he achieved the rank of 2nd lieutenant and
was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. The years after his graduation were eventful for George
Patton. He participated in the 1912 Olympics in a variety of sports. He trained in fencing in France

Henry Ford and the Model T Ford
Cars are a major part of everyday life. People today cannot imagine walking from Northeast
Philadelphia to South Philadelphia, let alone traveling from Philadelphia to Florida. The vehicle that
started the mobile craze in America was the Model T ford by Henry Ford. Hitting it off with the entire
nation, The Model T Ford was a smashing success.
People would say that when the farm was under Henry s control. They would not see any tools. Henry
ran his farm the way of the future . Henry ran a very efficient farm however this was not what he
wanted to do with life. As we already know Henry wanted to create the first car.
Ford was raised on a small farm ran by his father outside of Detroit (Mitchell,1). As a child Henry was
very interested in machinery. He always wanted a simpler way to do everything. His Father would go
to town and ask the children what they wanted. Henry s brother and sister would ask for candy but
henry always asked for clock wheels.
Henry Ford was a very intelligent man throughout his life. Henry was only eleven when he began
experimenting in his workshop (Barbara Mitchell,7). Henry grew up on the Ford farm just outside of
Detroit (Barbara Mitchell,12). When he was sixteen he left the farm and went to live and work in
Detroit (Mitchell Barbara,12). Henry wanted to learn more about technology so he can build the first
motor vehicle. At four o clock one morning in the spring of 1896, Henry, Clara (Henrys wife) and a
friend named Jim Bishop gathered around

Book Review Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich...
What would you do to survive? Could you take another person s life, to save your own? Would you be
able to live with yourself if you took another s life to have yours? All Quiet On The Western Front is a
realistic fiction war story, written by Erich Maria Remarque. The author, Erich Maria Remarque, was
a German soldier during World War 1, who had to survive during his brutal war experiences. During
the war, he had to take people s live while of the war front, and writing this book I one possible was he
got past his experiences, and one way he was able to show others the brutality of war. The book was
published on January 29, 1929, in between World War 1 and World War 2. In his book, he wrote the
story of Paul Baumer, a German soldier during World War 1, who fought on the French front during
the war, who also had to survive in brutal situations and events. It is written in first person, with Paul
being the narrator, so we see his thoughts and feelings alone. The book goes along through Paul s life,
experience, and journey through and during World War 1. It starts with Paul and some of his friends
wanting to join the German Army and fight in the war, but they soon learn about how devastating war
is, which is what the book begins to focus on. It begins to focus on how devastating war, specifically
on how war affects a soldier s humanity. The idea that soldiers fight to survive, instead of for their
country, is also repeated. While themes in the book, and how the story is

Langston Hughes On the Road Essay
Langston Hughes On the Road In Langston Hughes, On the Road the Sargeant is a homeless Black
man that is desperate for food and shelter. In his desperation, Sargeant goes to the church to refuge,
but there is no one at the Church to help him get refuge. Although Sargent is living in a time where the
depression is in existence amongst all people, Black and White, he finds no one to help him. Sargent
goes to the Church because the Church helps people. However, because Sargeant is Black and the
Church is populated by a White congregation, he is rejected. In the story One the Road , one of the

As the Church denied that Christ died, was buried and risen, the white congregation was denying that
Sargeant was a free man with rights. Hughes illustrates the reasons people do no like the Church
today. Rev. Dorset, white or black, should have had compassion for Sargent. It is disappointing to see
Rev. Dorset turned away Sargent, especially during the depression. A follower is a reflection of his/her
leader and that is why everyone ignored and refused to help Sargeant. A Church has always been the
place where anyone can be accepted. Christ says: They have kept me nailed on the cross for nearly
two thousand years(619). This line symbolizes the stumbbling blocks that a congregation can cause to
an individual. Although the congregational members have the power, their power was not enough to
keep the Church together. As long as racism exists in a society, the oppressor and the oppressed will
be bound and never free. When the church fell down, symbolically, it was Sargeant who fell. And
when the Sargent got up and started walking, Christ was walking beside him. At this moment Sargent
finds comfort, approval and company with Christ. Imagine roaming around a neighborhood with no
one to talk to, no family, and no friends, and because of Christ s presence he is no loner anxious about
when and where he is going to eat. Although this part of the story was based on a dream or

The Legal Age Of The Law Of Hollis
Ariana (defendant) is 19 and purchased a sofa and framed print from Apartments r us (plaintiff) with
cash for $1400. She notified the plaintiffs that she wanted to disaffirm the contract which was
voidable at her discretion because she is considered an infant under the law of Hollis. The legal age to
enter into a contract in Hollis is 20 years old and Ariana is 19 years old. There is no indication that she
has been emancipated by marriage, enlistment in any branch of the military, or by court order as
would deem her not an infant under Hollis Revised Statutes 12 H.R.S. §(100)(e)(2). None of the items
the defendant purchased were necessaries, so the defendant maintains the right to disaffirm. It is
unknown whether the sales contract was written. By the Statue of Frauds, the contract should be in
writing because it was for the sale of goods worth more than $500. The court will enforce the contract
even if it isn t in writing because the buyer has already accepted the goods and the parties agree that
there was a contract at one point. The defendant communicated clear and unequivocal disaffirmance to
the plaintiffs. Ariana is requesting rescission and restitution of the sales contract. This would nullify
the contract and return both parties to status quo ante. Ariana wants all of her money back and in
return she will return as much of the consideration as she has in her possession. It has been confirmed

I Watched An Episode Of Dance Moms
For this assignment, I watched an episode of Dance Moms, a Lifetime reality show about a dance
team of young girls, their mothers, and their teacher. Earlier on in the program s years, the show
focused more on the life of a dancer, and the commitment the each dancer had to make to compete.
However in the most recent episodes, such as the one I watched entitled Another One Bits the Dust the
28th episode in season four, the focus seems to have shifted to more surface level cat fights between
the adults. Once one is able to get to know the characters, the drama created from these altercations is
absorbing and overpowering to the point where the reality part of the show seems overly influenced
by the conducts of the show s producers and directors. With the use of classic character roles, creative
filming, and clever scene selections, the creators of Dance Moms tell a manipulated story of
competitive dance and all its participants, and direct the way they all are perceived in order to keep the
intended audience engaged, excited, and entertained with the show.
From the moment the episode starts, the classic good versus evil narrative begins, and the characters
are quickly established for those who might not be loyal watchers. The opening few minutes showcase
Abby Lee Miller. As the owner and director of the Abby Lee Dance Company, Abby tells her students
and their mothers who did the best at the most recent competition, and who did the worst. She posts

Consistency in the National School Lunch Program Essay
Claim
The National School Lunch Program needs to standardize and regulate their set nutritional standards
at all schools to help curb the growing prevalence of childhood obesity and other weight related
diseases.
What is the National School Lunch Program? The National School Lunch Program, or NSLP, is a
federally assisted meal program operating in over 101,000 public and non‐profit private schools and
residential childcare institutions. ( National school lunch, 2011) This government run program is
headed by the department of Food and Nutrition standards, a subgroup of the United States
Department of Agriculture. It provides nutritionally balanced, low‐cost or free lunches to more than 31
million children each school day in 2009. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools that choose to take part in the lunch program get cash subsidies and donated commodities
from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for each meal they serve in return, they must serve
lunches that meet Federal requirements, and they must offer free or reduced price lunches to eligible
children. ( National school lunch, 2011) The school and government have a responsibility to make
sure the students receiving these reduced of free lunches have access to a meal that is healthy and
nutritious because this meal is their only option for lunch during the school day.
Current Nutritional Standards of the NSLP The lunch provided to students who are eligible for
reduced or free lunch is their only lunch option, since they cannot necessarily bring a packed lunch
from home. Because of this the USDA and the FNS have created guidelines that each school must
follow when creating these lunch programs. According to the USDA 2011, School lunches must meet
the applicable recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommend that no
more than 30 percent of an individual s calories come from fat, and less than 10 percent from saturated
fat. (USDA National school lunch, 2011) These guidelines directly follow the standards set by the
USDA for everyday nutrition and must be followed by the school. The USDA has also created
guidelines for other dietary allowances. The USDA in 2011 reported Regulations also establish a

Al Qaeda is most known for their terrorist attacks. They have had six major attacks and four of them
were towards America to seek revenge. The first terrorist attack was on December 29, 1992. They

In 1993 there was an attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. There was a truck bomb and
the plan was to break the foundation of one of the towers so that it will fall onto tower two, bringing

  • 2. Essay about Seamus Heaney s Portrayal of Pain and Suffering Seamus Heaney s Portrayal of Pain and Suffering Heaney, born 1939 was one of the nine children of Margaret and Patrick Heaney who ran a family farm in Mossbawn, Northern Ireland. Heaney enrolled at Queen s College in 1957 after attending his local town school and opting not to follow in his fathers success of being a farmer. He took up a position as a lecturer at St. Joseph s College, Belfast 1963! He then went on to acheive a scholarship in English Language and Literature, also devoting spare time to a poetry group. His success in impressing fellow poets, subsequently lead to his poetry being sent to England for publishing in 1964. The following year, Heaney became married to Marie Delvin, who ... It is oblivious to a baby as to what and why an occurance like this is all around it. The baby is obviously the only being there who is not expected to mourn. Heaney s father, also, holds a similar state of mind like a baby in a sense. He appears to be weak when he thinks about the death of such a loved family member. However, the father unlike a baby is very sorrowful and shows emotion. He had always taken funerals in his stride , makes me think that this must be the first life loss that has been an upsetting shock to him. I saw him for the first time in six weeks. Paler now... This was an image that obviously layed within Heaney s memories, and he finally had the chance to reveal it with expression. Seeing the dead body of someone you love can be disturbing, but for Heaney he thought of it differently as he described the atmosphere candles soothed the bedside . My thoughts of a room like that would be depressing unlike Heaney s. I find it a misleading and unusual perspective. The Early Purges My immediate response to this poem was quite shocking! • 3. Pathos In The Other Face Black holes are very huge formations in the space that have a tremendous tendency for absorbing everything in the surrounding, and so our personalities are. We are born as void memory children who couldn t differentiate between right and wrong. However, we were also programmed in a certain manner that tells us what we are supposed to be, or exhibit. Socialization is a main clue which is regarded as a programming utility for our personalities. Therefore, Salma Shalash, in The Other Face, had a desire in shedding the light over the effect of personality programming, socialization, on relationships, with respect to gender considerations. Shalash conducted her message by writing a short temporary Egyptian story of a couple, being about to marry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pathos was used explicitly by grabbing the emotions and feeling of the audience by the unexpected spontaneous reaction of the fiancĂŠe ( Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ), showing her real mask, when she noticed that her relationship and marriage are subjected to danger. Ethos is achieved by relying on a divorced axial character, a friend of hers. The former dependence paves the audience mind for the fact that marriage, at that environment, ceases being a divorce when problems, related to misperceiving personalities, arise among couples. The author also accounted for the left brain audience who are mainly interested in one to one events; consequently, Logos , as a persuasion mode, was used as a transition between Shalash s knowing that her relationship with Fouad would be adversely affected and her spontaneous reaction, based on her character, of the unexpected visit. To sum up, The Other Face, by Salma Shallash, managed to conduct the message, triggered by the author s exigency, through a theoretical writing model integrating both persuasion and original writing style. Salma Shallash, in her story, assures the common Egyptian motto: Everything is with disagreement, except for marriage . She also emphasizes that actions can be evaluated in different ways according to the one s perspective in perceiving them. Therefore, a key to success and relax is the multi dimensional, or versatile, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Realism and Idealism for the Godfather Essay Realism and Idealism for the Godfather I will never forget what I felt when I first seen my first mobster movie, I was about 12 years old, it was real late at night and I just could not fall asleep. I was flipping the channels looking for something to watch, and that is when I encountered my first mobster movie. I was intrigued from beginning to end; it was like nothing I had ever seen before. The way they talked so confident and cool to the way they looked so sharp and sophisticated. Although they were ruthless criminals, they had certain respectability towards them that no body could deny. Without sound, the gangster films could not come to life. It was the 1930s that the events of the prohibition era such as bootlegging and the St. Valentines Day Massacre of 1929, and the existence of real life gangsters and the rise of contemporary organized crime helped to encourage this genre. The talkies are accounted for the rise of crime films. The first talkie 100% all talking picture and, of course, the first sound gangster film was The Lights of New York in 1928. Martin Sorcese, Brian De Palma, and Francis Ford Coppolla, who also directed the Godfather, have become the best storytellers of the gangster culture using visual storytelling. To them gangster films are moralities tales and success stories turned around in which criminals are the ones living in a dream world of success and wealth. Although they are destined to failure and possible death, criminals are portraying as the victims because the stories are told from their point of view. Great actors like Pacino, Deniro, who both played in the Godfather and Pesci also had an influence in making the gangster/mafia culture what it is today, by playing their parts so unbelievable well that their attitude, dialogue, and cold hearted cruelty on the screen transforms the modern day ... • 6. The Number Of Gay Bars And Clubs The number of gay bars and clubs increased in number throughout the 1970s. However, as the number of businesses geared towards LGBT individuals increased they also migrated. The area that they settled around in the 1990s is located is called Lakeview East; Lakeview East, West Lake View, and Wrigglyville are the three smaller communities that make up the larger Lakeview neighborhood. More specifically, the businesses were clustered around Clark Street and Halsted Street. In 1997 Chicago s Mayor, Richard M. Daley, officially recognized the area as a gay neighborhood. This area, now known as Boystown, was the first gay neighborhood in the United States of America to be officially recognized by the government. The same year city planners under the direction of the Mayor s office devised a plan to create a streetscape that marked North Halsted Street as being a gay neighborhood. This project was in line with similar projects in ethnic neighborhoods. For instance, the metal Puerto Rican flag sculptures in Humbolt Park that were mentioned above were created as part of one of the projects. The design for the streetscape included several pylons along North Halsted Street and, after complaints that the pylons would mark connected areas as being gay, flower planters to mark side streets. • 7. Monica ` S Presence In Augustine s Life Monica s presence in the spiritual life of Augustine poignantly reveals the profundity of love shared between a mother and her son. In the nine books in which she is mentioned, Monica makes significant decisions that have a substantive impact on Augustine s early life. Despite being a devout Catholic, Monica chooses to delay the baptism of her son until later in life. While this would be unusual for a contemporary member of the Catholic church, Monica believed it was in the best interest of Augustine to defer his baptism, allowing him to purge himself of his sinful and ungodly desires present during his youth with baptism received at an older age. As such, Monica minimizes the accumulation of sin that Augustine may commit after his baptism, thus allowing him to be to be judged more warmly by God after his death. ... Early on, Augustine is unsure of the validity of his mother s decision, considering her to have failed in her role, as he believed he would be less sinful if baptized at a younger age, eliminating the ritual s absence as an excuse for him to continue committing sin. Augustine s blaming Monica for not leading him on the correct spiritual path, proliferates as he grows older as he deplores her apparent lack of effort in restraining his sexual desires. He laments, ...although she had warned me to guard my virginity...she did not seek to restrain my sexual drive within the limit of the marriage bond (pg. 28). However, Augustine s sentiment that his mother did not put forth great enough effort to restrict his desire slowly dissipates, as he struggles on the path to salvation. Augustine begins to recognize the significant role Monica played in his conversion, emphasizing the role she played as both a physical mother and spiritual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Similarities Between Dewey Finn And Bill Rago The essay illustrates the differences and similarities of Dewey Finn played by Danny DeVito from the movie The School of Rock and Bill Rago played by Jack Black from the movie Renaissance Man . They both undergo the life changing experiences and this essay will elaborate on both before and after they become teachers. Both have the same goal; however, they choose different paths to obtain it. While Jack Black is more enthusiastic and shows somewhat of a desperate desire to connect with children, On the other hand, Danny DeVito is calmer and perceived as apathetic. However, they share one key aspect of their characteristics they both seem to suffer from an inferiority complex. Dewey Finn and Bill Rago were two people with very similar qualities. Dewey Finn was characterized as a person who was very arrogant and was extrapolated as being haughty. He was a lazy person and was disliked by many due to his behavior and was unaware of his own problems or probably cared less. For instance, Dewey was warned by his roommate to be kicked out of his apartment because he had not paid the rent for at least a year. This showcased as to how indolent a person may be. Whereas, Bill Rago is just analogous as Dewey Finn. They also depict as to how self assertive he was; these characteristics made him lose a lot of opportunities to succeed, in life. For instance, he could not reach his office on time and lost a 6 million deal which was going on. This is the world in which both are unkind, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of Mlk Letter To Martin Luther King Today in the United States, we are told that we are one of the best when it comes to having freedom; of course that was not always the case. As a nation, we have come a long way; but unfortunately we still are not all equal. As for 53 years ago, Marin Luther King Jr. was the man trying his best to pave the way for having equal freedoms for everyone, especially blacks. With the letter that MLK wrote, it ended up being more than a letter, but a piece of literature that was eventually published in his book. He is excellent when it comes to his words, he was able to speak his mind and portray his words emotionally. His thoughts were well thought out and written passionately, especially since they were written in a jail cell. This letter started a pivotal movement in the civil rights era, and is something people will always be talking about for years to come. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is what started his ideas for making a movement. He was tired of waiting for the government to do something about the unjust freedom that blacks have been getting. With this letter to the clergy men, he hopes to insert emotion into the people to do what is right and to grant people with their God given rights. I have never experienced oppression or seen a severe incident in person but I cannot image what King and his family had to go through before and after him being arrested. I also could not image what our world would took like today if this letter had never been written. If not, our whole country could be oppressed and would still be running directly by the rich white communities. Obama might not have ever become president because he would have still been in the minority where blacks could not be a part of the government, let alone be able to ... • 10. Sunset Boulevard Film Analysis Billy Wilder s famous and well known film called Sunset Boulevard is a masterpiece for the ages. Even though it is in black and white, don t think it isn t good. This film has so many twist and turns, the audience doesn t know what s going to happen next (even though you know the Writer in the movie is going to die because of the flash back). I thought the movie was interesting with the beginning of the film when they start out with the dead man floating motionless in the pool as police officers rush to the senses to understand what had happened to the dead movie writer. Also, later in the film that really interested me that was never answered in the film was the funeral for the dead ape and how it had anything to do with the plot of the movie. Sunset Boulevard is a film about a forgotten, living in her own world of being an old silent star crushed by new films with sound in her enormous mansion with just herself and her butler. As she just sits inside her house watching her old films, dreaming of her comeback and how it would bring her back as being the biggest star on hollywood. But the film isn t just a story about an unremembered famous actress, it s also a story about love, and this love theme helps makes the film seem more interesting instead of a boring movie about an old actress living in her glory days. Gloria Swanson plays the silent star trying to get back on top named Norma Desmond, with her role of a being a spoiled, innocent, and living in her dreams plays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Negative Effects Of Cigarettes Cigarettes kill more Americans than suicide, vehicular accidents, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ADIS, and homicides combined. Cigarettes do not support or benefit the public in a positive way. Cigarettes are filled with thousands of chemicals and are highly addictive. Cigarettes have caused numerous mental and physical problems for smokers and the people who surround them, impacting families, communities and society. Cigarettes and tobacco should become an illegal drug in North America. The negative traits of smoking outweigh the positive traits; tobacco should not be accessible to the public. Smoking kills these two words should be very familiar. The effects of first hand smoke from cigarettes are pathetically publicize, barley educating the public about the dangers and life threatening problems and illness associated with smoking. Although the understanding that smoking cigarettes can kill you has been established in the minds of Americans, the effects of second hand and thirdhand smoke has not. Two thirds of the smoke from a cigarette is not draw in by the smoker, but enters the air and environment around the smoker, this smoke is exactly the same as the third of smoke that was inhaled into the lungs of the smoker. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second and third hand smoke may cause cancers of the larynx (voice box), pharynx (throat), bladder, nasal sinuses, rectum, breast, brain, stomach in adults and brain tumours, lymphoma and leukemia in children. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second hand smoke is the smoke inhaled involuntary by others produced by burning tobacco. Unfortunately second hand smoke has twice the chemicals originate in the direct inhalation of tobacco found in cigarettes. ( Secondhand Smoke ) Non smokers who inhale the polluted air are likely to get many serious diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), heart disease, lung cancer, asthma and other diseases. ( Second Hand Smoke ) Third hand smoke can have the same impact as second hand smoke; third hand smoke is the tobacco smoke that gets trapped hair, skin, fabric, carpet, furniture, and toys. Though the exact date is forgotten my grandparents moved to Cleveland, Ohio sometime in 1989. My grandparents were very poor when they lived in Puerto Rico since there were not many job opportunities and barely any resources, my grandparents could barely make ends meet. They wanted to give their children to have more opportunities and resources that they didn t have when they were younger, so they decided to leave their home in Cidra. There were better educated schools in Cleveland for their children unlike in Puerto Rico, the food in Cleveland was way more affordable, medicine as well, and it was easier to find jobs that paid well. The first migration wave for Puerto Ricans came in 1917 when almost 2,000 people went to New York. Another wave of Puerto Ricans traveled to New York in the 1940s. • 15. The Vampire Is Not A New Manifestation Of The Fears Of A... The vampire is not by any means a new manifestation of the fears of a society. Their presence in human culture can be traced back for centuries in human folklore. The first Anglicized representations of the creature in literature date back to the English poetry of the early 1700s, and were then followed in the fiction genre by such works as John William Polidori s The Vampyre, Sheridan Le Fanu s Carmilla, and of course, Bram Stoker s Dracula. For the audiences of the 18th century, vampires embodied many of the following common fears shared between the people: of illness, both mental and epidemic, of an embraced sexuality, particularly that of women s and homosexuals , and of foreigners. Butler s vampires do not embody the fears and anxieties of the society they infiltrate; rather, Butler shifts the monstrosity from the vampiric figure to the social ills those figures face. The reader is not inspired to reject the vampire as villain but rather to demonize the systematic oppression which, in the case of Fledgling, the protagonist struggles against. The vampire then, in Butler s work, has evolved beyond its current literary form. Science is as integral as myth in the text, and Shori, Butler s dark skinned, female, sanguinarian protagonist is not only a progressive creature of legend but a manufactured being blending the technology of the human body with that of the Ina. Shori cannot simply be categorized alongside many other vampires because of this distinction she stands above and beyond, blending race and transcending concepts of creation and origin in order to forge a new identity for the vampire in literature. She truly stands as a stepping point toward the elusive cyborg a new biological citizenship being crafted by her very existence in Butler s universe, and what else is the cyborg but an attempt at that very determination of self? Before addressing the cyborg, the concept of the other and its place in Butler s novel must be addressed as the bridge between the two theories. Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel was one of the first philosophers to define the concept of otherness and the other. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The medium roast is an medium brown color with a stronger flavor than the light roast. It s commonly referred to as the American Roast because it is preference of most Americans. With a rich, dark color and a bittersweet aftertaste, the medium dark roast is a step up from the medium roast. Its beans, unlike the light roast beans, are slightly oily on the surface. Dark roasts are the strongest out of the four kinds. To create these, roasters use shiny black beans, and roast them until they have an oily surface. The taste of this roast is far stronger than any of the other roasts; this creates a bitter and less acidic taste (National Coffee Institute). It exudes a certain fantastic quality that, despite its age of over 500 years, still appeals to modern audiences. Because of this application to all eras, would it be reasonable to state that this poem could be classified with modern fantasy fiction? From when the Green Knight is beheaded and proceeds to pick up his head, give a wicked grin, and say essentially, I ll see you in a year, (ll. 423 456) it is clear that magic will play in integral part in the narrative. The confirmation of enchantment by Morgan le Faye (ll. 2446 2462) finishes the plot as it began it: in a state of magical unreality. Such enchantment is typical of modern fantasy, particularly from writers of modern fairy tales. Indeed, Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling have essentially made their careers editing compilations of these tales, such as the popular Snow White, Blood Red and its several follow ups. To increase the fairy tale style feel of the story, the Green Knight is called an elf (ll. 680, 2461) and faery. (l. 240) There is clear indication that this can easily be called a fairy tale. Stylistically, the visual and concrete nature of the poem lends itself to modern comparison as well. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1, with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan. Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1. So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Dichloroacetic acid is the second strongest in those 4 acids; this suggests that unknown acid 3 is dichloroacetic acid.
