2. AUDIENCES
Media products are all created with a specific audience in mind.
This is the group of people that the producer thinks will use the product and
make sense of it.
One way that media producers can categorise their audience is through
demographics, including:
– age
– gender
– ethnicity.
3. DEMOGRAPHICS
• Can you think of any other categories a media
producer would need to take into consideration?

11. 10 MINUTE ACTIVITY
In pairs, compare your media consumption diaries.
• What are the similarities?
• What are the differences?
• Is there anything you are surprised by?
• When did you consume the most media? Day? Time of day?
• Where do you consume the most media? At home? On your journey to
and from school?
• Which platforms did you use? (does this vary depending on the media
consumed – ie. iPod for podcasts, Xbox for gaming, car stereo for radio
listening)
• What was your favourite medium?
• Did you tend to consume media alone or with others?
• What was the primary function of the media consumed?
• Were you surprised by the amount of media consumed?
