Growing up in Lagos, I would pass streets with names like; Sir Samuel Manuwa, Sir
Adetokunbo Ademola, Okotie Eboh, Pa Alfred Rewane, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. I would
ask then why their names were on Street labels or Posts. “Owing to the recognitions of work
done,” I heard, their names were put up.
Today, I look at past leaders, present leaders and our generation including me Amina M.
Gidado. I read our Vision 2020, MDG Goals (ours and other Nations of the world in
statistics). I then look at our streets and their names presently, in say, Lagos and FCT
Abuja…….. (think about that).
We continuously focus on GEJ and GMB and forget that this is not about PDP or APC. It is
about a, once upon a time great Nation that gave hope to Africans. That gave hope that we
could indeed be a Partner in World Development (positively). That maybe about now our
goal as Nigeria, should be a G7 nation (we replace one smile emoticon ).
This euphoria we are caught up in that has made us focus on personal vices of Persons and
has made us forget what to keep looking out for.
Reality: We trade insults, bicker at each other and possibly loose sight of what we stand for
and should stand for. We focus on Self. We hear comments like,”I’m mot in a hurry to be
good or to improve” but yet DEMAND for CHANGE!!!.
My Brothers, Sisters ati Egbons and Mazis and Oriakus, Friends and Colleagues. Do not
forget what you stand for. Do not forget to continue to focus on your purpose here in life.
Remember to make time to continuously improve your self, this will inevitably keep
spreading in your immediate environs.
Remember that you, as an individual is accountable and so is everyone else around you;
GMB, GEJ, Tampolo, your child(ren), friends. Remember Change starts with You.
Remember One President – Elect cannot do it alone. Your values implement the policies or
keep them.
Remember, come post February 2014, your President – Elect must be accountable. It is not
too late to scrutinize the plans that all parties say they will implement once election is over.
Remember to ask how they intend to achieve these from NOW on.
Remember this election fever is about to end and REALITY must set in. It is inevitable.
Remember to look up at those street names and ask yourself if that is your name or what your
children will aim to be…..Think of yourself right now? Ask yourself of recent, who wants to
be like you? Ask yourself if you are a model for your child, niece, nephew et al…..

2. Remember, you have only one life to live on Earth. Be wise. Be good to you, be good to your
immediate environs.
Love yourself, Love your People, Love Your Nation,
Long live Nigeria!
Long live the day Nigeria goes back to supporting other developing Nations.
