A U D I E N C E D E M O G R A P H I C S
AUDIENCES
Media products are all created with a specific audience in mind.
This is the group of people that the producer thinks will use the product and
make sense of it.
One way that media producers can categorise their audience is through
demographics, including:
– age
– gender
– ethnicity.
DEMOGRAPHICS
• Can you think of any other categories a media
producer would need to take into consideration? –

10 MINUTE ACTIVITYIn pairs, compare your media consumption diaries.
• What are the similarities- both spend a lot of time individually than with either friends or family.
• What are the differences- My highest time using media out of the week is 270 minutes whilst Katie's is only 70 minutes.
• Is there anything you are surprised by- That she isn't on her phone every day of the week doing something ,media
based.
• When did you consume the most media?- on the weekend as I have more spare time than a week day as I'm at school.
• Where do you consume the most media? At home? On your journey to and from school?- At home being on my phone.
• Which platforms did you use? (does this vary depending on the media consumed – ie. iPod for podcasts, Xbox for
gaming, car stereo for radio listening)- I mostly use my phone through the week and mainly on the TV on the
weekends. This creates me to more go on media platforms like Instagram.
• What was your favourite medium?- Social media while being on my phone (snapchat, TikTok, Instagram).
• Did you tend to consume media alone or with others?- I consumed more individually then with family or friends.
• What was the primary function of the media consumed?- Radio at breakfast or in the car.
• Were you surprised by the amount of media consumed?- Not really as I would say that’s probably what I spend most of
my time on.
