This document discusses productivity optimization and cost reduction of equipment used in pavement construction. It analyzes three key pieces of equipment: vibratory rollers, hydraulic excavators, and bitumen sprayers. For each, it identifies factors that affect productivity, such as material characteristics, haul road conditions, and operator efficiency. It then provides formulas to estimate the productivity of each based on variables like lift thickness, cycle time, sprayer width and speed. The goal is to measure equipment productivity on road projects, understand impacting factors, and develop a system to estimate productivity under different site conditions in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
