2. India's 1st women-owned industrial park
opens in Hyderabad
Telangana on March 8, 2022, commemorating the
International Women’s Day 2022.
The park was inaugurated by Telangana Industries Minister KT
Rama Rao.
The industrial park has begun its operations with 25 women-
owned and operated Green Projects It is called the FLO
Industrial Park, as it is promoted by FICCI Ladies Organization
(FLO) in partnership with the Telangana government.
The opening of the park has garnered vast amount of
attention from women entrepreneurs who are interested in
operating their business from the location.

3. Air Marshal B Chandra Shekhar appointed as
Commandant, Air Force Academy
Air Marshal B Chandra Shekhar, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) on
March 8, 2022, took over as the Commandant, Air Force Academy,
Indian Air Force.
Before assuming the charge of Commandant, AFA, B Chandra
Shekhar was a Senior Staff Officer, Training Command.
B Chandra Shekhar is an alumnus of Defence Services Staff
Wellington, Flying Instructors’ School, College of Defence
Management and National Defence College New Delhi.
Air Marshal B Chandra Shekhar was commissioned in the Indian Air
Force on December 21, 1984. In 2020, Air Marshal B Chandra
Shekhar was awarded the Presidential Award of Ati Vishisht Seva
Medal by the President of India.

4. Param Super Computer installed at IIT
Roorkee
A super computer made in India, ‘PARAM Ganga’ was installed at IIT
Roorkee on March 7, 2022. The installation of the super computer was
done B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, Chairman of IIT Roorkee.
The Petascale Super Computer has been made in India under the National
Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
The key focus is to provide computational power to the user community
of IIT Roorkee and neighbouring academic institutions.
PARAM Ganga has a supercomputing capacity of 1.66 Petaflops (Peta
Floating-Point Operations Per Second.
The super computer has been designed and commissioned by C-DAC
under Phase 2 of the build approach of the NSM.
The substantial components utilized to build the super computer were
manufactured and assembled in India along with an indigenous software
stack developed by C-DAC.

5. US bans Russian oil, gas and coal imports
US President Joe Biden on March 8, 2022 announced a complete ban
on all Russian oil, natural gas and coal imports to the United States, in
an effort to impose harsher sanctions amid Putin’s war in Ukraine.
Biden said in his address that the United States is targeting the main
artery of Russia's economy. “We're banning all imports of Russian oil
and gas and energy.
That means Russian oil will no longer be acceptable at US ports and
the American people will deal another powerful blow to Putin's war
machine," he said.
The United States has banned oil and energy imports from Russia in a
unilateral move.
The European nations are yet to follow suit, with some of them
including Denmark pledging to become independent of Russian
natural gas.

6. Tik Tok, Netflix, McDonalds’s, Pepsi and
others suspend business in Russia
Global giants such as Netflix, Tik Tok, McDonald’s, Pepsi,
Coca-Cola, and others joined the list of the companies that
have announced the temporary suspension of their services
and business in Russia in response to the country’s invasion
of Ukraine.
The Coca-Cola Company announced in a Press Release that
it was suspending the business in Russia. It said, “Our hearts
are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects
from these tragic events in Ukraine.”
Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said, “We condemn the horrific
attacks on Ukraine by Russia and our hearts go out to all
those affected.” He added that the company has decided to
suspend all the business activity in Russia, including the
shipment of all Starbucks products.

7. UPI123Pay: RBI launches New UPI Services
for Feature Phone
The Reserve Bank of India has launched new UPI services for feature
phones called UPI123Pay. The announcement was made by RBI
Governor Shaktikanta Das on March 8, 2022.
The users will now no longer need internet to make digital payments.
UPI123Pay will benefit an estimated 40 crore feature phone users and
enable them to undertake digital payments in a secure manner.
This will bring non-smartphone users under the digital payment
system.
The RBI Governor also launched a 24x7 helpline for digital payments
called 'Digisaathi'. The helpline has been set up by the National
Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
The RBI Governor said these initiatives will promote financial inclusion
in our economy.
