Six fully vaccinated individuals in Madhya Pradesh, India were found to be infected with the AY.4 variant of the COVID-19 delta variant according to a report from the National Center for Disease Control. This is the first time the AY.4 variant has been detected in the 19 months since the pandemic began in India. The six individuals recovered after treatment.

The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) BS Saitya said that as
per the report received from the Delhi-based National Center for
Disease Control (NCDC), six persons were found infected with the
AY.4 variant of Coronavirus.
Their samples were sent for genome sequencing along with other
infected people in September 2021.
Saitya further said that it is for the first time in the last 19 months of
the COVID-19 pandemic that the AY.4 variant was found.
He added that all the 6 individuals found infected with AY.4 Variant
were fully vaccinated and they have recovered after the treatment.
The CMHO also informed that over 50 people who came in contact
with these 6 people in the last few days were found to be healthy
after testing.

3. What is Green-Day-Ahead Market?
Union Power Minister RK Singh on October 24, 2021,
launched the Green-Day-Ahead Market (GDAM) in a bid
to further strengthen the electricity trade in India.
The launch of GDAM is a step towards opening doors
for renewable energy wherein any renewable energy
generating company can set up and sell renewable
energy on the exchange, said the Power Ministry.
GDAM is a step by the government to make business
simpler and enable big industries to go green.
The country needs to decrease its dependence on
imported sources of fossil fuel for which the Centre is
working to implement the Green Hydrogen Mission,

4. Mullaperiyar dam issue: Mullaperiyar has outlived its life, says
UN report; Kerala CM asks Tamil Nadu to gradually release water
The Mullaperiyar dam water level reached 137.45 ft on October 25, 2021. Kerala
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
MK Stalin urging him to take necessary action to gradually open the spillway
shutters and release water from the Mullaperiyar dam in the wake of rising water
level.
The CM's letter urges to avoid a situation where unrestricted quantities of water
will have to be released.
The Kerala CM pointed out the recent floods and landslides in Kerala due to the
heavy rains and asked the Tamil Nadu government to regulate Mullaperiyar dam
water level so that untoward incidents can be avoided as the "rains are expected
to intensify in the coming days”.
He also requested arrangements to be made to intimate the Kerala Government
about the opening of the shutters at least 24 hours in advance to help them to
take precautionary measures for ensuring the safety of the people living
downstream of the dam.
Tamil Nadu had issued the first level warning on October 23. The Kerala state
water resources department had also issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu
government after the Mullaperiyar dam water level crossed 136 feet. A second
notice will be given after it reaches 138 feet.

5. Government plans curated tours to promote sites linked
to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
The Central Government has drawn up plans to promote sites all over the
country that are associated with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It will be done
through curated tours as part of the events to commemorate the anniversary
of the formation of the Azad Hind Government.
The move to promote sites in India that are associated with Bose is also the first
such effort at the National level.
On October 21, 1943, the freedom fighter had announced the formation of the
provisional government of Azad Hind in occupied Singapore. Subhas Chandra
Bose had launched a struggle to free India from British Rule under the banner
of the provisional government in exile during the latter part of the Second
World War.
As per the official in the Tourism Industry, identification of such sites has been
done and it will include multiple tours. Curated itineraries have been prepared
that will cover the destinations connected to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The

6. PM Modi to virtually attend 18th ASEAN-
India Summit on October 28
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 18th ASEAN-India
Summit through video conference on October 28.
He will be attending the summit at the invitation of the Sultan of
Brunei.
The 18th ASEAN-India Summit will be attended by the heads of state
of all ASEAN member countries. As per a PMO statement, the summit
will review the status of the ASEAN-India Strategic Partnership and
also review the progress made in key areas including health and
COVID-19, education and culture, trade and commerce and
connectivity.

7. Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev
secures second term in a landslide victory
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been re-elected
for a second five-year term by winning 80.1% of the vote in a poll
held on October 24, 2021.
However, as per the western observers, the poll was not truly
competitive despite the improvements brought by the recent
reforms.
Uzbek leader’s widely expected victory will allow him to deepen his
reform campaign and will also likely lead to Uzbekistan opening up
further to foreign trade and investment- while also retaining a highly
centralized political system.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also spoke to the campaign staff and the
reporters shortly after the result announcements.

8. Zimbabwe’s Tsitsi Dangarembga wins
German Peace Prize 2021
Zimbabwean novelist and filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga on October 24, 2021,
was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade 2021 for her artistic
work as well as her political commitment.
62-year-old Dangarembga has been fighting against corruption and freedom
for years. She is a ‘widely audible voice of Africa in contemporary literature’, the
jury noted. In her acceptance speech, she called for a fundamental shift to
overcome racial hierarchy and the violence in Zimbabwe.
Dangarembga was chosen by the German Publishers and Booksellers
Association for the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade 2021, which has been
awarded since 1950. The prize included 25,000 euros ($29,100).
With this prestigious German Award, Dangarembga became the first Black
woman from Zimbabwe who has won the Peace Prize winner.
