2. FIRST IDEA : Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Feasting on the flowers
My idea for this was to create a Concept/narrative based video. My reasons for
choosing this style was mainly down to the lyrics written within the song, in
particular a lyric which states “Last thing I remember there were tears of blood
that were just not mine” I had envisioned to recreate this (using fake blood). I
thought about recreating other lyrics as well, I wanted the video to relate to the
meaning of the song, which is sadness/death but at the same time give it “trippy
affects” one shot transitioning into another.
Emotions are clear within the lyrics, I felt that I could display this in the strangest
ways possible and it would be clear to the auidnce.
3. Why didn’t I use this idea?
I really liked this idea and it wasn’t due to the fact that I didn’t think it was good. It
was mainly because I didn’t have enough ideas for each shot type. I wanted to
include relations to the lyrics and I was unsure of how to display each line.
I also felt like a concept video wasn’t something I wanted to create as I'm not
100% confident it would have showed my skills in the best way.
4. SECOND IDEA: LANY, Hurts
The idea I had for this was to create a narrative video. The storyline I wanted
for this was the idea of someone forming an eating disorder over time.
I became particularly interested in this idea when I viewed the lyrics, simply
lines such as “wasting all my younger days” reminded me of the idea of
body image and how its such a big part of teenagers lives – focusing so
much on your body = waste of a childhood.
“the sunsets black and white, it didn’t used to be” this reminds me of the
idea of becoming depressed. Stuck in a loop of trying to ‘look good’ that
eventually leading to the concept of never being happy.
5. Why I didn’t use this idea?
The reason for me not using this ideas was partly down to how graphic
the video could have came out to be. Body image is a very sensitive topic
for everyone, I didn’t then want to create a video which might make
people feel uncomfortable or un easy.
I think its very important to be able to display an important message of
loving yourself, but everyone takes things differently. It could be found
that video may have offended people or upset them even.
6. FINAL IDEA (the one is used) – Bastille,
Send Them Off!
My idea for this song was to create a narrative video, revolving around the idea of
sinning the bible. I was highly interested in using the idea of religion – the good’s and
bad’s. This may be because I am an atheist myself, but I am deeply interested by the
bible and its followers. I got the impression that this song revolved around the bible
and sinning due to the lyrics.
When I first heard the song my first impression was exactly what I've explained, I
interpreted lyrics such as “Soak the ropes with your holy water ,Tie me down as you
read out the words” this created the image in my head that someone is trying to
compel themselves to the religion, almost as if they are forcing to be. Which is how I
feel towards society, not just in the case of religion, I believe people are forced to
believe the idea of everyone else and not speak out. This is song helps display that
message easily.
7. Why I used it?
As soon as I heard this song I had ideas rushing through me, I had so many I had
to jot them down straight away. This is how I knew that I would know how to
create it and what ti film. It may also be down to the fact that the topic of my
video/song is something I find myself highly interested in.
I am excited to start filming, creating scenes and re inventing the image I have in
my mind.
