The document analyzes the design choices made for a digipak album cover. It discusses using images of the artist that engage the audience and establish her brand identity. The front cover places the artist off-center following the rule of thirds. Inside pages continue focusing on the artist through additional photos in different styles. Design elements like fonts, colors and backgrounds are chosen to be consistent throughout and relate to the artist's style and theme. The goal is to build a connection between the artist and audience through the visuals and track list descriptions.
My evaluation question 2, talking about how my my digipak and poster fit the conventions of something or other. Basically done it so that I can complete the A-level and hopefully get something out of my life which probably won't happen as I have no idea of what I am doing but hey, lets live in the moment and not worry about the future until you're there. Then you can break down and cry as you still haven't figured out what you're doing!

2. Front Cover
For my completed front cover, I decided to follow the
rule of thirds and have my artist on the left hand side. I
chose an image where the artist is looking past the
camera so there is not quite a direct mode of address.
This was to portray a sense of secrecy to the artist and
also indicates there is something on her mind. This
engages the audience as they will want to find out more
about her songs and the message behind them, thus
more likely to want to purchase the digipak.
I chose to repeat the title of the album multiple times as
I thought that it would be a constant reminder for the
audience to remember her and her music. The font I
chose is very feminine and looks like handwriting
making it more personal.
I used a basic colour scheme of the tones black, grey and
white with the primary colour red (titles and in the
scarf) as I felt like the shades I used matched the artists
accessories(scarf). The colour change from black to red
in the titles makes it easier for the audience to identify
the artist’s name and album title. It also emphasises the
artist brand identity.
3. Inside cover
(Lyric book)
I wanted to continue to focus on my artist through out
my digipak, which is why I included another photo of
my artist. This time I changed the location, the position
of my artist, changed the angle of the photo and broke
the rule of thirds.
I changed the angle of the photo because I thought that
it was more aesthetically pleasing to the audience as it
shows more variety.
The direct address allows the audience to connect to
the artist, which is fitting because the lyric book is
where the audience can begin gain insight into the
songs the artist herself.
4. Inside cover (CD)
For my second inside cover, I created two different
backgrounds and with the assistance and help of my
peers decided to go with the Brick background
I still wanted the background to fit in with the theme,
which is why I chose to use the bricks because my
lyric book already had a photo of my artist sitting in
front of a brick background.
I decided to not chose the other background with my
artist’s face on because I felt like it was too repetitive
as three out of my four images focused purely on my
artist.
Also when looking at the conventions of a digipak I
found that the CD typically changes the image
behind the CD and does not have the artists face.
5. Track list
Because my front cover is very busy, I tried to keep my
track list as minimalistic as possible. I also was
consistent in my digipak as I kept the same font and
colour scheme throughout.
I chose emotive titles for my track list, they all connote
the isolation she feels and the idea that the artist has
been hurt or had some struggle in the past. This gives
the audience an idea of what to expect in the album.
I included the copyright policy, a logo and barcode to
heighten the authenticity of my digipak.
Through the use of lighting, I wanted to create a
shadow effect on the face of my model in order to
illuminate how there is a hidden side to the album as
well as the artist. By shining the light on one part of
the model’s face, the decision to use this angle was to
highlight how the model is trying to hide a part of
them, thus the shadow that appears suggests that this
hidden part will eventually be exposed, this links to
the fact that my artist exposes their vulnerability in
the album.
6. Final product
I think that all my images establishes my artist’s brand
identity. I have tried to be consistent with all my
images, font and colour scheme throughout my
digipak.
I think that overall my digipak emphasises on building
my artist’s brand identity, making a personal
connection between my artist and her target audience
and highlighting my artist’s emotional and vulnerable
side not only through the images but through the titles
on the track list.
7. Advert
I wanted to continue building my artist’s brand identity, which is
why I advanced by using a similar photo, the same font and
colour scheme as my digipak.
On my advert I included the release date, reviews, artist’s
website and other information about the album. I have done this
to make sure my target audience know what will be included
when they buy the digipak and also know that they have the
means to find out extra information about the artist on her
website.
I also included the record label and other ways of listening to the
songs, on ITunes. I have done this to increase the authenticity of
my digipak and make it look like a real media product.
