  16. 16. SYMBIAN MOBILE OS VERSION5/22/2013GVPCE(A)16 Series 60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2 Released on 12 July 2006. Support for Wi-Fi 802.11, HSDPA. Symbian^1 (Series 60 5th edition):- Applications should launch up to 75% faster. Additionally, SQL support is provided by SQLite. Symbian^3:- Released in the year 2010. Symbian^3 is an improvement over previous S605th Edition and features single touch menus in theuser interface, as well as new Symbian OS kernelwith hardware-accelerated graphics.
  17. 17. Contd.. Symbian Anna and Symbian Belle:- Released in the year 2011. Free-form, differently-sized, live widgets More home screens Improved status bar Modernised navigation New apps Informative lock screen NFC devices5/22/2013GVPCE(A)17
  18. 18. Features Processes and Threads: Symbian OS is a multitasking and multithreadedoperating system. Many processes can run concurrently, cancommunicate with each other, and can utilize multiplethreads that run internal to each process. Common File System support: Symbian OS organizes access to system storage using afile system model, just like larger Operating systems. It has a default file system compatible with windows (bydefault it uses FAT-32 file system). It supports several different file systems , like FAT 16 & FAT32, NTFS etc.5/22/2013GVPCE(A)18
  19. 19. Contd.. Networking:Symbian OS supports TCP/IP networking as wellas several other communication interfaces such asserial, infrared and Bluetooth. Memory Management:Although Symbian OS does not use or have thefacilities for mapped virtual memory , it organizesmemory access in pages and allows for the replacementof the pages, that is , bringing pages in, but notswapping them out.5/22/2013GVPCE(A)19

Tizen OS Tizen is an operating system for devices includingsmartphones, tablets, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI)devices, and smart TVs. It is an open source system that aims to offer aconsistent user experience across devices. The Tizen project resides within the Linux Foundationand is governed by a Technical Steering Group (TSG)composed of Intel and Samsung. Tizen provides an environment for applicationdevelopers based on the JavaScript libraries JQueryand JQuery Mobile.5/22/2013GVPCE(A)35
  36. 36. Conclusion For developers the operating system is an ultimateplatform to develop apps innovatively and publish inmarket very easily. Not only in mobile phones, the OS isdiverging in various fields like Tabs, Smart TVs andCameras etc. A mobile OS should be a result of factors like userexperience, battery life, cloud readiness, security andopenness. A successful mobile OS is a result of adesign between software and hardware together.5/22/2013GVPCE(A)36
