Analyze Learners: The students are a class of 20.They are 4th
graders. 11
girls and 9 boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
They are all from different backgrounds including the ones from the rest
of the students. They will all perceive things differently and I will adapt to
each of the needs of the different learning styles and start to understand
how much project based learning can help grasp a concept because that
is the direction we are moving in.
State Objectives: Students will be able to describe different holiday
traditions pertaining to the diverse cultural backgrounds. They will learn
though acting out in group’s different stories to tell from the research
they do on the computers. They will draw pictures with the smart-board
and I will teach a short lesson on the basics of it, look up videos
throughout YouTube and sites on google, and read about different
historical people that influenced these different holidays and write a
picture book on a different holiday tradition they learn about. In 2 weeks
each student will describe different holidays with 90% accuracy.
Select Methods, Media and Materials:The students will be using props
provided to them from the theater room to act out a story they
researched and use the internet to upload all of the acts and pick out the
best of them all, but also display them as puppet acts through the
projector. The best acted out presentation will receive a golden star. They
will use PowerPoint to make a poster that will advertise their act. They
will present any kind of picture that depicts their favorite food using the
new smart-board, the will watch and listen to videos from the internet
that will show a short clip of each holiday presented. Last they will listen
from a podcast that they will create about a historical figure that
influenced a holiday we have today.
2. Utilize Media and Materials: The props will be any kind of clothing, or
head wear, hats, shoes that could be used to present any holiday, and
will be provided so the other student will learn and by putting in their
best efforts to create a well-constructed presentation. PowerPoint will
give them any kind of color scheme they want to make their posters, and
they can be creative. The videos will be based on different kinds of
holidays, which have speakers talking or just noises to have an effect on
how we celebrate each holiday. The story that the student will listen too
will be of their choice chosen from the classes’ collection of podcasts. The
reading will consist of a short summary they have concluded from the
story they have chosen to listen about a historical figure.
Require Learner Participation: To fully understand the concept of each
holiday that a group or individual presents to the class, the other
students will write a reflection of what they had learned from the
demonstrations or illustrations. Then by uploading all of the videos they
will vote by class majority on the one they think was best done. Each
individual will be randomly put in a group to participate in the acting
aspect. Each group will create their own poster. At the end of the short
clips picked from the internet the students will use a discussion board to
write a short reflection on them and they will have to comment on at
least one. As I will share with the entire class what it really is about. And
the students will turn in a summary at the end of what they learned from
the historical readings. At the end of the presentations and turned in
discussions, posters, and podcasts of their figure they will have to put it
all together and make a portfolio using a webquest about what they have
learned about each holiday that they will turn in.
Evaluate and Revise: I will be committed to every group as a narrator for
their story and presentation while acting out to a holiday they have come
up with. Each student will be given a grade for participation and so that
every student will be involved in the group activity, and so everyone’s
votes count for the best presentation via internet. The creation of the
poster using PowerPoint will just see that they learned how to use
PowerPoint and they at least tried it. The podcast and discussions will
show what they have learned and their overall portfolio or webquest will
be seen as how well they grasped the concepts of the holidays and the
traditions we share today. If at the end of the 2 weeks if the students still
3. don’t have an understanding for the holidays, a meeting or conference
will take place with the parent and student to make sure they understand
and learn about different holidays to the best of their ability.
