A- Teaching holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students, 11 girls and 9 boys.
There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
S- State Objectives: My fourth grade students will be able to name and describe all of the
taught holiday traditions by the end of the month.
S- Select Methods, Media and Materials: Based on the different ethnicities in the classroom,
the holidays studied will vary. They will learn the holiday traditions by creating projects,
exploring online, and We will be using media, such as books, the internet, and even news
coverage to guide the learning of the holiday traditions. Also within the course of the month,
I want the students to talk about the holiday traditions they celebrate.
U- Utilize Media and Materials: An overview of many different holiday traditions will be
given. Students will do art projects centered around the holidays, such as Christmas and
Hanukkah. Once they learned the basic concept of the holiday traditions, they will work on a
project on one particular holiday and learn about all of the traditions. The different
nationalities of the students make it so the students can learn from each other, not just from
researching.
R- Require Learner Participation: Students will be able to tell the class in their presentation
about the holiday traditions that they learned about. They will also be able to create art as a

reassurance that they know the different traditions without the fear of being tested. After each
class member presents their holiday’s traditions then the students will be able to tell me about
each of the holidays and their traditions.
E-Evaluate and Revise: Before the unit begins, I will have the students get into small groups
and have them jot down what holiday traditions are, and what traditions they know about or
celebrate. During the course of the unit, evaluation will be based on what they have explored
and what they can tell me and their other classmates about holiday traditions. After the course
of the unit, the students will be able to write something about each holiday studied and/ or
presented by their classmates. If the evaluation throughout and after show retention of what
was learned, then I will decide what to adjust as far as the media and the methods that were
used to teach this concept.
