Assure Assignment

I chose assignment #2: Teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students 11 girls,
and 9 boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
A- Analyze the Learner: Teaching Holiday traditions to 4th graders. There are 20 students 11
girls, and 9 boys. There are 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish and 2 African Americans.
S- State Objectives: Students will describe two holiday traditions of each culture represented by
the student body by using YouTube, blogs, Pinterest, QR, WebQuest, Facebook and Digital
Imaging while being able to do this with 90 % accuracy by the end of the week.
S- Select Methods, Media, & Materials: The class will be instructed to bring in two pictures of a
holiday tradition that is representing their culture/religion, they will then introduce to the class
these items and students will share each of their holiday traditions. YouTube videos will be
shown to help explain and show some different holiday traditions in each culture/religions in the
classroom. Children’s books can be used to help show the traditions of different cultures.
U- Utilize Materials: I will begin by making sure all videos are appropriate before being
introduced to the class via YouTube. I will make sure the blogs, Pinterest, QR, Webquest and
Facebook are kid friendly and free of inappropriate materials for the students. I will gather the
children’s books and also see if the children have a favorite of theirs to bring in and share and to
use for resources. I will collect all the pictures brought in and provide them for viewing and
using as resources for the poster board.
R- Require Learner Participation: I will begin the lesson by engage the students in a class
discussion and gauge their knowledge on Holiday’s and what their viewpoints are. This will be a
informal assessment as well. I will then show a YouTube video on the different holiday
traditions. Then I will provide the students with a blog that they will read and reply to about what
they do for their own holiday traditions. Pinterest will be used to show different holiday
traditions in different cultures. I will create a QR that takes them to a website that strictly goes in
detail about holiday traditions. They will navigate through a WebQuest that will allow them to
create their own holiday and name it and give it their own traditions. Learner participation will
be required by the making of a digital image on Photoshop that includes different aspects of each
culture/religion that is represented in the class by using pictures, words, etc. They will be
required to bring in two pictures for the class to use. At the end of lesson, they will be asked to
join the class Facebook page and write four paragraphs of what they learned and what they liked
and did not like about the lesson.
E- Evaluate and Revise- I will be evaluating the lesson on teacher observation, seeing how well
students participated in class talks, lesson activities, etc. Revisions will be made if necessary.
