2. To attract my audience I took into consideration my
audience research questionnaire and focus group feedback
in my primary research so that I could use conventions that
would be fitting.
My questionnaire stated that around half of the people that
filled it in, they either like alternative or rock, therefore I
combined this to accommodate to both by having the genre
of indie rock. I addressed this audience through the use of
popular indie rock musicians on my cover and contents
within the cover lines, For example, Arctic monkeys and
Haim.
In my focus group they said that they would prefer an
instrument or prop, clearly showing the musical aspect.
The price of my magazine is £2.50 as I thought that this
would be an affordable price, as my audience research
graph showed that the majority of people were
unemployed. Also as my audience is predominantly students
in further education it can be resumed that they would
benefit from a cheaper magazine. Considering audience
demographics I believe my audience to be of E,D and C1, the
monthly price would be affordable. Also the tag line of
“festival guide” would attracts these demographics as it is a
common interest in young, working class people to attend
festivals. In addition the “day to day guide” aspect addresses
the audience as younger people would need a guide as they
are perhaps less experienced.
3. I also addressed my audience by making sure that my
designing my layouts to be neat and organised so that they
are easy to read but look sophisticated.
In my audience research questionnaire the feedback stated
that the majority of my audience would pay a maximum of
£3- £4. I felt that this was potentially too expensive for my
magazine as I want to aim for E,D and C1 in the demographics
and I felt even though my magazine is monthly I though £2.50
was more fitting.
In terms of Maslows Hierarchy of needs, Clash would fall into
the love and self belonging category, with a feeling of
involvement between the readers and the magazine. I
addressed this by featuring an editors note that creates a
more personal relationship with the readers.
4. I also addressed my audience by, in my DPS, using a Question
and Answer format which proved the most popular kind of
article from my audience research. When writing my
Questions I wanted to keep them focused on music rather
than gossip, however I did include some aspects of gossip
that was still related to music. I did this as I felt that if my
questions were too serious, it wouldn’t appeal to the
younger audience as much, so I wanted to break my article
down making it more light hearted. Within my answers I
tried to answer them in detail so that its wasn’t a simple
format and childish, yet more sophisticated than a teen
magazine question and answer.
At the end of my article, I included questions that would
have been asked by the audience, therefore having a more
personal relationship with the readers and a sense of
involvement.
I also attracted my audience by having advertisements and
selling points which in my questionnaire people said that
they would expect to see in a magazine. I include things like
“win tickets” “Festival guide”, all things that my audience
would be interested in. I definitely think that this would
attract my target audience as they would have a keen
interest in gigs and as students they would be attracted in
the “win” aspects as that would mean that it would be free.
