2. ANCILLARY TASK PEER FEEDBACK
After I was able to start my ancillary tasks, I created many drafts
and asked my peers for feedback. We all did this together in our
class as our opinions mattered to one another. We did this by
going to each others computers and looking at what everybody
had created, we gave one another great feedback and also targets
and room for improvement. This plan of action helped me to
think more creatively and have an open mind when looking at my
peers feedback. The feedback I received was mixed, mainly
targets to improve were small adjustments and mistakes that I
fixed right away.
Overall, the feedback from my fellow peers really did help me
improve my own coursework, as well as gaining inspiration from
my other classmates and learning different skills and Photo shop
techniques that I was able to adapt to my own work.
4. AUDIENCE RESEARCH FEEDBACK
I created a questionnaire, for my peer audience ranging from different ages
and genders. This was very important for my coursework as it enabled me to
decide what kind of documentary style my audience enjoy. I personally think
it is extremely important to give my questionnaire to a wide range of ages
and genders as every individual has a different opinion and interpretation of
documentaries. It really interested me to see what style of documentary the
majority of my audience preferred. Despite the fact my documentary is
targeted at young girls and teenagers who could perhaps suffer with the
same victimisation that Penelope herself did, my audience is also the general
public. I think getting this message and warning out to the general public is
a very important thing to do as everybody may be affected by these crimes,
not just the girls/people affected by such attack.
I wanted my target audience of young adults to be happy with the final
piece, so I valued their opinion very much in the documentary style decision
making. It was very helpful to have their advice and opinion at this very early
decision making stage. The feedback received enabled me to improve my
5. AUDIENCE FEEDBACK I RECEIVED
Here, are some of the answers I received from my
documentary questionnaire. I took these all into consideration
when choosing my documentary genre and story line, due to
my target audience over all opinion. I chose to have more
music than ambient sound, to create a documentary style
similar to ‘24 hours in A & E’ (with the action and interviews)
and to involve both observation and factual voice overs. This
is my ideal style that I want to create, my feedback has
enabled me to learn my audience feel that documentaries
should have meaning, instead of following famous people
around their town for entertainment, a documentary should
be factual and have pure meaning based upon real events or
to get a particular message across.

6. PEER FEEDBACK
I have received feedback from my peers
through creating a documentary presentation,
this presentation enabled me to narrow down
particular choices I would soon make for my
documentary coursework. We, as a group,
created a power point asking seven questions
to get more feedback from our class. Our class
contains a group of 17-18 year olds (this is
the general audience we are attempting to
target due to all the victims being around the
same age.)
To the right are some examples of the sort of
questions we asked our focus group. These
responses were all quite similar, this was
fantastic as it ensured our choices were correct
and we took their opinions into much
consideration. We achieved great success in
our focus group feedback, it was very
enjoyable and I learnt that most young adults
like similar types of shows/documentaries.
7. PEER FEEDBACK
Our focus group responses were very positive and resulting in us deciding:
o To create an observational documentary, with added interviews
o Have factual voice overs as well as interviews
o Be on between 7.30 & 10pm for my target audience
o Be 1 hour long
o It would be seen on a channel 4 as a drama, but we have created our own institution.
All of these choices were ones in which we had already thought about considering, we knew our target audience
would want these things. By creating a mix of the observational and interactive styles of documentary, we are
creating what our audience want to see. This seems to fit perfectly with our storyline idea. However, our audience
chose the channel ‘E4’ for our documentary to feature on. This is due to the age range being from 17 to 18, E4 is
a popular channel for TV shows and teen dramas. However, our documentary is not a typical drama that is
watched for entertainment purposes, it is a serious Crime Watch-like documentary that needs a serious audience
of viewers who are concerned and want to learn/have knowledge of different things happening in and around the
world. We have decided our documentary would feature on a TV channel such as Channel 4 to add to their
dramas. I personally enjoy watching Channel 4 dramas so this fits in perfectly.
Yet, we did not want our documentary to feature on a channel that we haven’t created, so we have decided to
create our own institution and channel. We took inspiration from Channel 4 and watched many of their dramas to
decide how to create a serious drama documentary. We have decided to name our intuition ‘ACE PRODUCTIONS’,
this is the creators of the documentary coming together to show their input and creation to warn the public.
8. OVERALLThe feedback I received on my ancillary texts was very useful and enabled me to alter
my coursework and listen to advice. By making little alterations and correcting little
mistakes I did not notice, I learnt how to improve my work by using online tutorials
to increase my Photoshop skills. I learnt that my advertisement needs to be as
effective as possible, I achieved this through creating a dark smoky background
blending two images together, not necessarily neatly, to create a broken mysterious
interpretation to the audience.
The feedback I received on my documentary planning enabled me
to give the majority of the audience what they preferred to see in
a documentary. Their opinion is very important to enhance the
reality of my documentary and really have an understanding of
what creating moving image is like, in the real world. From my
peer feedback I learnt that I need to adapt skills gained and
observations from different Channel 4 dramas to create my own
drama to feature on this channel. I understand that I have created
a documentary that is half observational, meaning I have re-
enactments of the crime and quick shots of the environment
separated with jump cuts. I also have interviews dominating, this
enables the audience to listen to the victims stories and the real
torture and horrendous affects the crimes have made on the
victims, teachers, neighbours and friends of the girls.
