Q5 addressing audience
1. How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience for MuseMag in the way
I styled and positioned the fonts, characters in
the images and the content of the text. I made
sure the fonts were not formal but more exciting
and quirky. Having a formal font would look like
the target audience is aimed at older people
because this is the type of fonts you find in
magazines/newspapers that that audience tend
to read. By making the fonts more quirky gives a
more younger feel to the magazine.
In the double page
spread of Muse Mag I
attracted/addressed the
audience by the style of
writing the interview
was written in. The
singer who was being
interviewed had just
produced a new album
whilst going through a
break up with her ex
boyfriend. Relationships
are a popular topic area
in a teenager/young
adults life so the text in
the interview related to
the audience. I
addressed the audience
in the interview by
making the singer give
advice to people who
are going through
similar situations. This
attracts the audience
because they would feel
like they have gained
something after reading
the interview, so they
would carry on buying
the magazine.
In the contents page of Muse Mag the way I
addressed the audience was through the sub
headings which were titles of each page in the
magazine. For example, one sub heading was a
chance to win a ticket to V Festival. V Festival
is a festival aimed at teenagers/young adults
who like pop music. This is the same audience
as Muse Mag so the people who will read that
will be drawn in and want to win a ticket. It is
also a good opportunity so people will want to
keep buying the magazine on the off chance
that they will win a ticket. Another sub
heading was about a band member leaving a
band. Teenagers/young adults would be
attracted to this heading because it is ‘gossip’
that they are generally interested in.
On the front cover Muse Mag the image is of a male character positioned in font of
a brick wall. This automatically gives off a younger vibe to the audience that the
magazine is for that age range. This would attract the audience because they would
hopefully think that it looks ‘cool’ and in their element.
