2. Name
The name of my pop music magazine is “Melody.” I
chose this name as it relates to music. The definition of
Melody is “a sequence of single notes that is musically
satisfying.” This is appropriate because I want my
magazine to be pleasing to people. I didn’t want my
magazine to directly have the word “pop” in it and
instead wanted to be unique and come up with an
original name.
3. Price
The price of my magazine will be £2 because upon
research I found that this would be an acceptable price
that people would be willing to pay. The majority of
magazines are around this price so I wanted to fit in
and not have a price that was too expensive and deter
people from buying it but also not a price that was too
cheap.
4. Position Statement
My position statement – otherwise known as a selling
line – will be “lets talk about pop.” I used this because it
matches the whole pop genre and gives an overall
statement of the content included in my magazine. This
in my opinion will attract readers more as they know
immediately what my magazine is about and what the
general theme is.
5. Distribution
My magazine would be distributed in newsagents,
supermarkets and other shops because it is a genre
which tends to attract the majority of people. It is a very
popular genre which you see everywhere and is the
most used in media. For example, a high percentage of
chart music tends to be the genre of pop.
6. Frequency of publication
My magazine would be distributed monthly so that my
audience could be updated very frequently and hear
about everything that is going on in the media currently.
The reason I chose monthly rather than weekly is
because I don’t think enough events happen each
week to be able to produce a whole magazines worth
of content about interesting events and gossip.
7. Rationale
The reason for my magazine is to provide female
teenagers and young adults with the latest gossip and
information on their favourite celebrities and what has
been going on in the media. It is a more fun way of
getting information than watching the news or reading a
newspaper and is more specific to what they want to
read about.
8. Style/layout/colour
The layout of my magazine will be quite busy and
crammed because the majority of pop music
magazines that I have researched tend to be this way.
The colours will be stereotypically feminine colours
such as pink, purple and white as these will naturally
attract “girly girls” which is my intended target
audience.
9. Regular content
The regular content of my magazine will be stories that
have been in the public eye such as marriages, babies,
breakups. Also, I will often include free posters of
celebrities that feature in the magazine as a way to
encourage more people to purchase and read the
magazine.
10. Featured content
The featured content of my edition of my music
magazine will be the first ever interview with a pop star
as this gives my magazine an exclusive aspect. Also,
her fans would have a chance to find out information
about her that would not be anywhere else for them to
find out.
