Charlotte Martin has drafted several advertisements and a digital press sheet (DPS) for her documentary coursework on the case of Penelope. Her drafts explore using silhouettes of Penelope and other victims against a light background to highlight Penelope's story. She considers fonts with lines to represent blood or mud and adding quotes to provide context. Martin's preferred DPS draft places the image on the right with text on the left in different shapes. It features Penelope's face and stories of other victims. The background will be black to focus attention on the unsettling image.
2. ADVERT DRAFT 1
This is my draft of my poster for the documentary
coursework. I have chosen this style as I like the idea
of having the victims (the girls) being silhouettes all
around the main character (Penelope), Penelope will
be dressed in colour and ultimately stand out from
the crowd of girls. This is because Penelope's story
is the main story and all the other girls are the part
of the 'copy cat' effect.
I haven't decided on the font that I would like for the
poster yet but I like the idea of lines going through
the words to add a innocent approach yet perhaps
looking like blood, or mud or something to relate to
the documentary. This is so the audience have a feel
of what this documentary is all about. Also I would
add some kind of quote from a news report or a
quote from the documentary near Penelope's figure
to give even more of a hint into the documentary.
3. ADVERT DRAFT 1
I want the background to be white so
Penelope's outline is shown evidently as the
main message and the black outlines will be
effective also as it adds a kind of mystery.
However, I may have Penelope closer to the
camera and have the girls silhouettes further
away to really show Penelope's vulnerable
pale face with all her hair down her back
instead of in front of her body as a guard.
The main message I want to give is
the vulnerability of Penelope and
the seriousness in her face compared to the
dull, bleak background.
4. DPS DRAFT 1
This is my first drawn draft of my DPS. I
chose a red and black theme for this
DPS and decided I want the image to
take up the whole page. Due to the face
of Penelope being the main part, the
background will be blended into
darkness and ultimately the background
will be black instead of white.
I laid the DPS out by having the text on
the right hand side and all the
information on this side, then the
image(s) of Penelope and a number of
attacked girls being under a spotlight. I
would blend these two images together
to make them look as bleak and creepy
as possible with a black background. I
have also created an enlarged quote to
feature on the DPS to give the audience
5. ADVERT DRAFT 2
This is my second draft for my
advertisement poster for my documentary
The Penelope Case. I like the layout of this
poster, the grey coloured-in background
represents the black dark blended in
background I am hoping to create using
Photoshop.
I have drawn only half of the attackers face
as I will edit the image to blend into the
background and be particularly dark. I like
the layout and the bottom written section. I
feel, when I create this, it will look very
effective and professional.
6. ADVERT DRAFT 2
I have added quotes of reviews from
newspapers at the top of the
advertisement, this gives the audience an
initial thought that may persuade them to
watch the documentary set or read the
article.
I was influenced by the documentary poster
below, I really enjoy the font and the
bottom section.
I will use this to help with my final course
work poster. I much prefer this second
draft
than my first draft due to the layout and I
like the idea of blending the two images
into the same image.
7. DPS DRAFT 2
This is my second DPS draft, I much
prefer this draft than the first due to
the layout. I very much prefer the
image taking up the whole page but
being on the right hand side
instead. I like the writing being on
the left and having different shapes
to make the headings more
interesting.
I have used a quote underneath the
title to attract the audience. I have
added a section to the right hand
side, where I will add different
images of the other attacked girls
and part of their stories, other
similar documentaries that the
8. DPS DRAFT 2
Again, the background will be black
and I may use a different angle of
Penelope's face to concentrate on,
perhaps the side of her face whilst
she is looking at the camera with a
confused stern look on her face.
I'm hoping to use the colour scheme
of blue (as it matches Penelope's
eyes) and transfer this onto my
poster too. I am very happy with this
drawn draft and cannot wait to start
creating it.
9. ADDITIONAL DRAFTS
This is another poster draft for the
documentary, this involves a strip along
the bottom of the page which is
influenced from '24 Hours in A&E'.
This type involves pictures of the
characters at the bottom, definitely being
edited to stand out more before hand,
and showing their serious faces reflecting
the serious audience we are trying to
attract to watch our documentary.
10. ADDITIONAL DRAFTS
This article draft involves a
silhouette being the main
purpose of the background,
similarly in the first draft.
This silhouette is of a man
(the attacker) which implies
some mystery as we cannot
see his face. The white and
black contrast is very
effective although a big
splash of colour would really
finish this advertisement
poster off.
