• Rock artists generally come
from poor, lower class
backgrounds who have the
determination to learn to play
and appreciate rock music.
For example the rock band
Hole included band members
who had experienced
troubled childhoods finding
an outlet in rock music. There
is a general stereotype of rock
artists taking drugs, drinking
and smoking. There are many
examples of this throughout
history and many musicians
talk about these issues in
magazines but I have chosen
to feature younger, more
responsible artists to give a
good impression to my target
audience.

3. Ethnicity
The rock band

• My magazine features mainly young
teenage girls. In my magazine the front
cover features a female and I
interviewed another female for my
double page spread. As my magazine is
targeted at females I predominantly
used female models to attract that
audience. There are many female
fronted bands such as Paramore (top)

(right). These bands attract the
audience of females as it shows them of
being independent as they are able to
take charge from males. My magazine
shows that not all rock music has to
come from males. My typical magazine
reader is a teenage girl into fashion, live
gigs and listening to the latest rock
music. My magazine is built around this
to attract this kind of reader. This is
contrary to existing rock magazines
whose main audience is males, creating
a niche market.
