2. Age?
Through my research I have found that the rock genre was quite broad in terms of age,
however focused on appealing to a more younger audience at the age of 16 and above, this
can be seen through using young models and artists including the use of bold colours and
layout in different media products. This may be because at the adolescence and young
adult stage people are taught to pick up the latest trends and good music like rock music,
and will tend to go for a rock magazine to gain this information. Similarly as I have chosen
to use a younger model I believe it clearly represents the younger generation of people
aged 16-24, which clearly fits into my target audience.
Gender?
This genre is male dominated as you can see from the professional magazines as it is
depicted as quite violent and aggressive subverting from general female characteristics
which is why I chose to use a female model to subvert from this stereotype, also
highlighting that females have ruled the rock world as much as men: example Amy Lee
3. Ethnicity?
• This genre is usually associated with people from a white ethnic background, including the
models. Whilst taking pictures of my models for my magazine front cover, contents page
and double page spread. I will have to admit that it was hard getting people to take part in
my shoot. This is because I go to a mixed school with different ethnic backgrounds, and
didn't know a lot of people from a white ethnic background. However I did know some,
which resulted in my front cover model- Shannon, conforming to the stereotype. Where
someone did say “its mostly white people then black people that take part in rock
magazines”, on hearing this I wanted to subvert from this typecast and managed to
convince two of my models who are Latino to take part in my shoot; displayed in my
contents page and double page spread. Representing this generation-2017 there are more
people from different ethnic backgrounds that like to read and take part in rock music.
Example Jimmy Hendrix and Chuck Berry also noticed through the people who participated
in my audience research-survey who said they enjoy it.
4. Region?
A rock magazine in general I would say doesn't really have a specific
region to look back onto to. However if I were to choose, perhaps my
magazine would be more popular in the U.S and England, or any region
of MEDC’S (More Economically Developed Country) as they would have
easier access to technologies today, so of course it would develop an
interest in this since they are exposed to media on a daily basis.
