Unreliable, Disrespectful

3. Representation
My representation for my music magazine does not represent what the
media portray Hip-Hop/R&B music to be like. The genre of music I have
chosen is Hip-Hop/ R&B. The Hip-Hop genre of music usually involves
explicit language to do with sex and violence, rappers usually express
feeling to do with struggles and how life was like back in the day.
The R&B genre of music usually involves music about making love and
breaking up & romance, it also has a soul feeling to the music. Contrasting
my music to be a subgenre music magazine it gives it a more urban but
subtle look. It will also entice both genre of music audiences into buying my
magazine. The magazine does represent my view of Hip-Hop/ R&B music and
does contradict the way the media represent it to be like hugely. My
magazine also give an chance for readers to have their own views on how
they see Hip-Hop music. Which likes to the psychographics I have selected for
my magazine.

makes women look vulnerable and always
made up)
My magazine has an aggressive attitude towards
•Aggressive the front cover image, but the women is
•Female Dominancy represented as dominate and covered up to
• Urban/ Street Fashion show that they can still portray a message
without being revealing. I have represented the
vulnerable side of women by my music artist
closing her eyes, not having direct contact with
the audience ,(my magazine isn't about grabbing
the male attention in a sexual way by having my
model wearing hardly any clothes, the message I
am trying to get across is that women are just as
tough as men and they don’t need to be seen
wearing any clothes to grab the males attention.)

5. The way in which I represented my artist Sahara on my front cover is
a dominate, aggressive and confident young women. I wanted to
represent her like this because in the hip-hop/R&B industry today
men are seen as the more dominate ones. I wanted to show my
target audience that it isn’t just men, women can be as dominate
and aggressive as men but can also be confident in themselves .
You don’t have to be a certain social class or dress a certain way to
be confident.
Having Sahara’s eyes close does represent the vulnerability of
young women to day, especially in the music industry in the way
they are presented. (Revealing clothes, heavily made-up and
sexy).The body shape and angle I took represent s her in a more
alpha male way. The medium shot of her body and face dominate
the front cover. Which does make it eye catching to both male and
female customers. The media represents one view of hip-hop/ R&B
reality . But the way in which I represent it is the way hip-hop and
R&B use to look like when it first became global which was baggy
clothes and all about the music. But I have twisted the way in which
the clothing is represented including 21st century fashion such as
skinny jeans and recent fashion trends such as the beanie hat/ Nike
trainers and Dr Dre Beats headphones. Makes the magazine more
urban and it can relate to young teenagers and adults today.
I have defiantly challenged the codes and conventions of hip-
hop/R&B magazines today, you can see this from looking at the
front cover of my magazine. Hip-Hop and R&B are mainly seen to
be presented to black people but the way in which I challenged
the medias view on it was by having a mixed race artist.

6. From my secondary research I was bale to find out
different codes and conventions of other music
magazines that are based around the same genre as
mine. Using the search engine Google I found examples
of magazines they were (Vibe, XXL, Rap-Up, The
Source). From examining these music magazines I have
been able to identify that they don’t really represent
different cultural backgrounds
Looking at the screen grabs you can see these
magazines use black music artist, even if they are not
fully black the artist may have the same ethnicity.

7. Unique Selling Point
• The Unique Selling Point of my magazine is, that it is a Urban Hip-Hop/R&B
magazine that is represented to the dominate social classes and is
represented to all cultural backgrounds.
• The other Unique selling point for the first few editions will be that you can
download free songs from artists featuring in the magazine. The reason for that
is so i can entice the right target market.
• The other Unique selling point will be that my magazine will be sold at a
reasonable price to cater for all social classes from Jincars Scale C1-D.

• My evaluation of my Photos reflect the type of audience they may
read my magazine and also represent the Hip-Hop/R&B nature of my
magazine.
