Mattingly "AI & Prompt Design: The Basics of Prompt Design"
Evaluation Question 1
1. EVALUATION QUESTION 1
In what ways does your media production use
develop or challenge conventions of real media
products?
2. RESEARCH BEHIND THE TASK
I chose to create a film trailer, a film poster and a film magazine cover.
Before I started the task, for each one I did a bit of research and looked
into the types of things which I might have wanted to create.
3. TRAILER
For the trailer I looked at a lot of horror film trailer. I looked at
trailers such as ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ and ‘Scream’ and
looked at different techniques which I could adopt in my trailer.
I used a range of different shots and angles like in the videos I
had looked at. I chose to do some close ups of my characters
to show their expressions and this is how I followed certain
conventions of real media products because I have done
something which most trailers do have.
4. TRAILER
The typical timing on a trailer ranges between 60 and 120 seconds, and my
trailer lasts 30 seconds. I have challenged conventions here because I am
not doing a typically long trailer which gives the audience a lot of information.
I have made a short one to engage characters and get them to look for more
information about the film.
There are certain trailers which also challenge typical conventions here, such
as the ‘Twilight Breaking Dawn – Teaser Trailer’ which is 50 seconds long -

Another example is ‘I Am Number Four’ -

My audience like the length of the trailer because it doesn’t give a lot away
and makes them want to see the film more to gain a bit more information
about what it is about.
I wanted the audience to feel like they wanted to see it and to not give much
away by producing something shorter.
5. FILM POSTER
For the film poster, I looked at a number of different posters. For this
task I chose to use some ideas which I had seen but change them in
a number of ways. From a lot of the posters I looked at, the main title
of the film was shown as the main feature and the thing which stands
out the most. On my poster I decided to do it differently and have my
title rather small and the image the focal point on the poster.
I chose to follow what most of the posters had shown me where
there wasn’t much on the actual poster except the image and title,
because I think that the less information given the more people want
to know more about it.
I challenged conventions of real media products when I used the
image as my focal point because many people may have been put
off, but from my audience feedback I have learned that people like
the image because of the eerie and mysterious vibe it puts out.
6. MAGAZINE COVER
For the magazine cover I used typical conventions of
magazine covers by using a main title and having the typical
barcode, issue number etc because I wanted the audience to
see that it was a professional magazine cover.
I have also followed typical conventions by using an image
and cutting out the background to a solid colour because it
enables the text and image to stand out better.
7. OVERALL
I have mostly followed the typical conventions of
real media products because it is easier for the
audience to feel any connection to them because of
real media products they have seen. I have
challenged things where I feel necessary and to
what I think would work better.
