1. EVALUATION
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products ?
2. TRAILER:
My groups film trailer use conventions from real media products such as the
music, we started our trailer off with happy music then turned scary this is a
common convention of horror trailers and we chose to use this as its effective
and will have made our trailer look more professional, it is effective as it sets
the mood of the film, at the beginning the music is happy as its introducing
the characters and makes them sound innocent, then it turns scary as the
trailer cuts to scary parts of the film which shows the audience its a horror film.
We also used similar titles which are used in real media products as they make
it look professional and are a common trailer convention, we used them to
help show the audience its a horror trailer. We also developed are trailer and
made more then one draft so we could get feedback and improve the trailer
so it was to a professional standard and looked like a real media product. Me
and my group conducted a survey to get feedback in order to improve the
final draft of the survival kills trailer. We also challenged some common
conventions of media products by using a handheld camera in some of the
trailer, we chose to do this to make it different from all the other horror trailers
so the audience will want to watch it as it is unique, we chose to use a
handheld camera as it makes it look like the characters are alone and have
no help when the murders take place, this makes it seem more scary and
make the audience want to watch the film.
3. MAGAZINE:
My groups magazine cover used a similar layout to other well known film
magazines as this is what is effective and recognised by the audience as a
successful magazine, we chose to also use the common convention of fonts
and titles with our film magazine as we wanted our magazine to sell well. We
developed our magazine by making lots of drafts of the cover, for example
we started off with a close up picture of one of the characters looking away
from the camera, we improved it and developed it by using Photoshop to
add blood splatters to help convey the theme of horror to the audience. We
challenged the common conventions of film magazines by using a picture of
the character who is looking away from the audience, usually in magazines
the character/model is making eye contact at the audience but we chose
to make him look as if he is looking into the distance. We chose to do this
because he looks more mysterious and different to common magazine
cover models which will hopefully make the audience want to watch the
film.
4. POSTER:
My groups poster used conventions from other magazine covers
such as, title, tag lines, main image etc. we chose to use these as
these sell well so we thought it would be appropriate to include
these in the making of our project to make it successful. We
developed our poster by taking in the feedback from our surveys to
improve it in a way the public agree with and want. We did this so its
more likely people will acknowledge our poster and want to watch
the film. We didn’t want our poster to look boring and dull so we
chose to challenge some horror film poster conventions, for example
we chose to only sow the outline of the killer so its more mysterious
and makes the audience want to go watch the film to find out
more. We also stuck to one colour which is effective as it makes the
poster look controversial so others and more scary.
