Videos are used in business courses in several ways:
1) Instructors create short videos using software like Camtasia to provide lectures, demonstrations, and overviews. These videos are embedded directly in the online course or hosted separately.
2) Videos are cut into short clips and embedded in quizzes to help students prepare for class meetings in blended courses.
3) VoiceThread is used for student presentations and for instructors to provide feedback and overviews of course content and upcoming assignments.
4) Videos are embedded in discussion forums to supplement activities like debates and discussions.

2. Types of videos used in our courses
Formats Most of the videos used in our courses are short
− Flash videos created by the instructor at their
desktops, requiring little or no post-production work.
− mp4
Some, though, were created in a studio
− wmv setting, then cut into short clips by the eLearning
− Silverlight staff.
Software used Most of our videos are stored on College of
− Camtasia Business servers, a few are hosted by
YouTube, VoiceThread, Screencast, etc.
− Jing
− VoiceThread Instructors produce the videos, and the eLearning
− Adobe Presenter staff is responsible for arranging delivery to
students (embedding in Compass, etc).
3. How are the videos used?
In this online class, VoiceThread was
used by the instructor to provide a
summary of the class discussion
about a case, and to model use of
the tool for students, who will use it
for their group project presentations.
The instructor’s video was embedded
in a discussion board post, the
students will post a link to their
presentations as Bb doesn’t allow
students to embed VoiceThreads.
4. How are the videos used?
In this blended class, micro-lectures
are used in place of one class
meeting per week. The lectures were
recorded in a studio during a summer
seminar version of the course, and
the videos were cut into short
clips, and embedded in web pages.
Links to these web pages are
provided in Weekly Modules in
Compass 2g.
5. How are the videos used?
In the same blended class, very short
clips from the micro-lectures are
embedded in “pre-flight” quizzes in
Compass 2g. A video is embedded
in each quiz question, and sets of
questions are drawn from a larger
pool. Students are required to
complete a “pre-flight” quiz at the
beginning of each week, to help them
prepare for the one class meeting.
6. How are the videos used?
In this online class, there is an
item in the Learning Module
that is in agenda for the week.
Here, the instructor uses
VoiceThread to provide a short
greeting and overview of the
week, as well as feedback
about the assignments in the
prior week.
7. How are the videos used?
In this same online class, a
video is embedded in a
discussion forum
post, students watch the
video, then engage in a
Point/Counterpoint discussion
activity.
8. How are the videos used?
In this online Statistics
class, the instructor used
Adobe Presenter to narrate
PowerPoint presentations for
the delivery of concepts, then
used Camtasia to create many
screen cast videos to
demonstrate how to use
several Excel functions.
