2nd LESSON PLAN – Time

UNIT: TIME
SUBUNIT: Months/days/seasons/festivals
Age group 13-14 years old
Time: 90 minutes (two periods)
Resources/Materials:
 Word cards
 Computers
 Handouts
 Projector
 Notebooks
New language: dawn, dusk, St. Patrick’s day,
autumn, spring, evening ,midnight, New Year,
Learning outcomes:
Pupils should be able to:
1. sort out the words in appropriate groups
2. reproduce in English all the words mentioned under “New
language”
3. name days ofthe week, months of the year, seasons and parts
of the day
4. describe some dailiy routines
5. make a comic

Introduction
In the beginning students are explained that they will have a block lesson conducted
by two teachers, English and ICT teacher. They were explained that some parts of
the lesson would be done on computers with the help of their ICT teacher.
Motivation
Teacher asks students if we are talking about time and not about telling the time,
what can we talk about? Students give their suggestions (days/months/
dates/seasons.)
Students are projected a spidergram on the board, with different subtopics of time-
days/months/seasons/ festivals/ specialdays and parts of the day.
After that they are given different words like : Wednesday,evening,
autumn,May,Mother's day, Christmas, and they have to come to the board and put
the words in the correct place, where they think they belong. After all the words are
on the board we checked if everything is in the right place, and make corrections
where they are necessary.
Also students have to decide what preposition will they use with each group of the
words-IN, ON or AT-for example will they say : ON Monday,AT Monday or IN
Monday.They saay their answers,and the teacher writes it on the board.
Students are than asked to say one more word for each group of the words.
Main part
Activity one- Afterstudentsmentionexamplesforall the groupof words
theywill deal witheachgroupof wordsindividualy.Firsttheyhave to
revise daysof the weekandmonths of the year. Theydoit by doing
wordsearchtheyareadyhave ontheircomputers.Wordsearchismade in
puzzle-maker.Aftertheyfinishtheyhave toanswersome questions( What
isyour favourite dayof the weekandmonthof the year,and why?)

Activity two- Nextstepwastalkingaboutseasons.Studentshave toname
all the seasonsandthensay what months belongstowhich season.They
have to name three monthsforeach season.Alsotheyhave toexplain
whatis theirfavourite seasonandwhy.Whenwe checkedwhatmonth
belongs towhichseason,studentsgetthe handoutaboutdifferent
seasons.Theyare doingitin pairs.Onthe handoutstudentshave the
descriptionof summer,spring,autumnandwinter,butsome wordsare
missingfromthe texts.Missingwordsare writteninthe middle of the
handout,andstudentshave toput theminthe correcttextto get the right
description.
Aftertheyfinshedstudentsreadtheiranswersto checkif theydid it
correctly.
Activity three- Students will talkaboutfestivalsandspecial daysineach
season.Studentshave tothinkaboutwhat festivalsorspecial days do
theyknowineach season( forexample-winter-Christmas,orspring-
St.Patrick'sday).Alsotheyhave tosay whichfestival orspecial daythey
preferand why.
Activity four- Studentsare firstwatchingasong „ Good Morning,
Afternoon,Evening,Night“- fromthe youtube.Afterwatchingittheyhave
to say whichpartsof the day theyhearand alsowhichactivitiesare
mentionedforeachpartof the day.
Followingactivityisanexercise inwhichtheyhave toconnectcorrectpart
of the daywithits definition.The exercise iscreatedinHotPotatoes.After
theyfinishtheycanchecktheiranswersandcorrect themif theyhave any
mistakes.
Activity five- Studentshave toname parts of the day inthe correct order-
dawn,morning,midday, afternoon,dusk,evening,nightand midnight.On
whiteboardtheyhave apicture projeceted.Inthe picture theycan see
differentpartsof the day so theycan check if theyputthemin the correct
order.
Whenthey write all partsof the day, theyhave towrite some activitiesfor
each part of the day, so thingstheyusuallyineachpartof the day….for
example:inthe morningIhave breakfast.

  • 1. 2nd LESSON PLAN – Time Created by Tea Liović Holas and Mirna Prusina UNIT: TIME SUBUNIT: Months/days/seasons/festivals Age group 13-14 years old Time: 90 minutes (two periods) Resources/Materials:  Word cards  Computers  Handouts  Projector  Notebooks New language: dawn, dusk, St. Patrick’s day, autumn, spring, evening ,midnight, New Year, Learning outcomes: Pupils should be able to: 1. sort out the words in appropriate groups 2. reproduce in English all the words mentioned under “New language” 3. name days ofthe week, months of the year, seasons and parts of the day 4. describe some dailiy routines 5. make a comic Time Procedure 2’ 5’ 10' 5’ 10’ Introduction In the beginning students are explained that they will have a block lesson conducted by two teachers, English and ICT teacher. They were explained that some parts of the lesson would be done on computers with the help of their ICT teacher. Motivation Teacher asks students if we are talking about time and not about telling the time, what can we talk about? Students give their suggestions (days/months/ dates/seasons.) Students are projected a spidergram on the board, with different subtopics of time- days/months/seasons/ festivals/ specialdays and parts of the day. After that they are given different words like : Wednesday,evening, autumn,May,Mother's day, Christmas, and they have to come to the board and put the words in the correct place, where they think they belong. After all the words are on the board we checked if everything is in the right place, and make corrections where they are necessary. Also students have to decide what preposition will they use with each group of the words-IN, ON or AT-for example will they say : ON Monday,AT Monday or IN Monday.They saay their answers,and the teacher writes it on the board. Students are than asked to say one more word for each group of the words. Main part Activity one- Afterstudentsmentionexamplesforall the groupof words theywill deal witheachgroupof wordsindividualy.Firsttheyhave to revise daysof the weekandmonths of the year. Theydoit by doing wordsearchtheyareadyhave ontheircomputers.Wordsearchismade in puzzle-maker.Aftertheyfinishtheyhave toanswersome questions( What isyour favourite dayof the weekandmonthof the year,and why?)   • 2. 15’ 5' 15' 8' Activity two- Nextstepwastalkingaboutseasons.Studentshave toname all the seasonsandthensay what months belongstowhich season.They have to name three monthsforeach season.Alsotheyhave toexplain whatis theirfavourite seasonandwhy.Whenwe checkedwhatmonth belongs towhichseason,studentsgetthe handoutaboutdifferent seasons.Theyare doingitin pairs.Onthe handoutstudentshave the descriptionof summer,spring,autumnandwinter,butsome wordsare missingfromthe texts.Missingwordsare writteninthe middle of the handout,andstudentshave toput theminthe correcttextto get the right description. Aftertheyfinshedstudentsreadtheiranswersto checkif theydid it correctly. Activity three- Students will talkaboutfestivalsandspecial daysineach season.Studentshave tothinkaboutwhat festivalsorspecial days do theyknowineach season( forexample-winter-Christmas,orspring- St.Patrick'sday).Alsotheyhave tosay whichfestival orspecial daythey preferand why. Activity four- Studentsare firstwatchingasong „ Good Morning, Afternoon,Evening,Night“- fromthe youtube.Afterwatchingittheyhave to say whichpartsof the day theyhearand alsowhichactivitiesare mentionedforeachpartof the day. Followingactivityisanexercise inwhichtheyhave toconnectcorrectpart of the daywithits definition.The exercise iscreatedinHotPotatoes.After theyfinishtheycanchecktheiranswersandcorrect themif theyhave any mistakes. Activity five- Studentshave toname parts of the day inthe correct order- dawn,morning,midday, afternoon,dusk,evening,nightand midnight.On whiteboardtheyhave apicture projeceted.Inthe picture theycan see differentpartsof the day so theycan check if theyputthemin the correct order. Whenthey write all partsof the day, theyhave towrite some activitiesfor each part of the day, so thingstheyusuallyineachpartof the day….for example:inthe morningIhave breakfast.
