- The teacher shows paintings and photos related to families and
the children are encouraged to guess what the relation between
the persons is and what the title of the painting or the photo can
be. (Nuclear and extended families can be mentioned).
- The teacher writes the words “Family” and “Love” on the board
and asks if there is relation between these two words. After a
short discussion the teacher asks the children to write a sentence
in their whiteboard with the words “family and love”.

- Song: A family is a family. The children listen to the song and
they have to cooperate to give their own title for the song. They
write a title on their mini-whiteboards. Discussion about the
meaning of the title.
“ A family is a family”
-Worksheet 1 is given and they listen to the song again and they
fill in the gaps (pair work). This can help students practice
listening in a fun way.
- Analyzing the song trying to help them become aware of the
variety of families in their country and around the world.
(Nuclear and extended families can be mentioned).
- If your classes are feeling really creative they could write an
extra verse.
Tesi’s family tree
Presentation of the family tree asking students to make sentences
like the following:
e.g. Tania is Tesi’s grandmother. She is her grandmother
Fred is Mark’s son. He is his son.
Game: Naughts (o) and crosses (x)(also known as X's and O's)

The teacher separates the student in two groups: A & B
Each group has to choose a box and say one sentence using the
two words that are in the box and connecting them with Tesi’s
family tree. Each group/player takes a turns to add either an O or
a X to the board. The first group/player to line up three of their
symbol in a row wins.
Vocabulary Activity:
Each student can choose a family member word and says a
sentence about his/her family related to the word.
