2. Mind Map
My first and favoured idea is a pop/rock band called “Blue
Lava” I think this is a unique name and a good idea, the
product I would create is a CD cover representing the
band’s icon. The colour scheme would always be black
with bright neon blue, this would make the band stand
out from the rest. And the style would be futuristic as if
they are from another world. This audience would be from
the ages of 19 to 30 this is a wide age gap but for good
reason if I was to make a retro band it would only appeal
to those that listened to it during their childhood, this way
they are more likely to listen to the music.
Original ideas
My second idea would be a podcast, the theme of this podcast
would be similar to the Ricky Gervais show where there are
general questions being asked to someone who has a unique
view on the world and expresses their point in a funny
manner. This would take longer and be harder to complete but
its double. The audience for this idea would have been
between the ages of 25 and 40 because the original podcast
has bad language but is funny for all ages. The types of people
that would listen to this podcast is primarily men because I
think most women would find it unfunny, and stupid.
I could create a made up film poster for a made up film this poster would be similar to most horror posters with an old
house or cabin in the background and a creepy figure standing in a cloud of blackness, the colour scheme would be dark
and depressing shades of black and grey. With the use of sinister and twisted imagery. This would appeal to most teens and
young adults because younger adults like horrors that scare them. Some people just love the adrenaline of being scared
similar to people who love roller coasters. I would try to make it appeal to the beloved horror fans that love good posters
are given basically a teaser at the movie, so if the title was escape, then you know the movie is about the main character
escaping something.
3. Mind Map
I have chosen my first and original idea of a band
called “Blue Lava” the reason why I have chosen this as
my finale product for this course is because I enjoy
creating CD covers for bands and musicians, I think
with all the skills I have gained through the other units,
I will be able to create a great concept and product
with the new abilities I have earned. E.g. unit 3 was
about creating a poster and I enjoyed creating a
fictional game concept and being able to create the
poster was amazing. And I think those skills and tools I
have learned to use will come in handy for this project.
The cd cover would consist of a retro pop look to it, I
will have a black volcano with a dark sky as the
background and a misty blue as the smoke, and I will
have bright luminescing blue lava seeping out of the
peek flowing down the volcano and exploding in the
air, like oil in a pan that’s on full heat. I might have
the albums name engraved into the volcano or
forming in the lava. I would have the band in the
cover because it would look tacky and unrealistic.
I would also create a poster as most bands and
musicians have posters created for the fans so they
can express their love for the music/ band their would
be a continuous theme repeat, as the band will keep a
similar theme throughout their carriers as musicians.
The main difference I would change would be the
colour so every album they release could have a
different colour for the lava, so the first one that I
make is a neon blue and the next one could be a neon
green, this makes it colourful and colour coordinated.
I am confident that I can create a magazine cover
expressing the band as a world wide known band that
has just been interviewed for their latest album that has
been number 1 on the charts for over 3 weeks, I would
also have two full pages on the inside talking and going
through the interview with all the questions and
answers. The main target audience is men and women
between the ages of 16-20 the reason why it is targeted
to this age group is because they are a similar age so the
songs they write will be relatable to other late teens.
Project ideas
5. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• The main style I have gone with is the 80s retro style and I think this is a good idea as I love
the style of 80s retro, I can also talk about a lot when I create my projects when I consider
this retro theme with all of them.
• The tone and mood will be the same since it is in a state between relaxed and magnificent.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I will reference to the mood board when I am creating my projects this will help keep a
sustain the theme throughout the project.
• My audience will love this style of my theme that I am going to create. Mainly because
most of my audience grew up in the 80s and 90s and grew up surrounded by retro
advertisements and when you live your life surrounded by such influences they will
metaphorically be adopted by the audience and it will become a big part of them on a
personal level.
• This audience is perfect because they grew up when this style of media and advertisement
was popular.
• The fonts I will use should have a part of tradition and originality so I will look through other
products and websites looking for retro fonts and different styles. I think the colours will be
bright and urban so purple and blue would be a good combination. I will try to keep my
style and ideas consistent.
6. Informal Proposal
Current Idea
Concept My idea is to create a fictional pop, rock band that will be different from everyone
else. The way I will do this is by creating their entire theme and image in an 80s retro
style, with bright neon colours and just classic retro. The name of this band is “Blue
Lava”
Type of
products you
would make
The products I have chosen to create is a t-shirt design, CD cover and a poster. All of
these products will be cool and awesome to create once again, as these are my
favourite products to create and design for this course. All the products will have an
image of a retro themed environment with a lava spewing blue lava and the general
theme is that every album will have a different with the same picture.
What you will
need to make
them
I will need to use Photoshop in order to edit the image and change the colour, I will
change the size for each one and adding details like a price tag or barcode with a
small print with the recording studio and producer. This would be for the CD, but for
the poster I would not include anything like that. For the T-shirt I may have to just
include the image with the albums name the T-shirt would look tacky if I included
albums names and songs, the only thing I’d include is the name of the band.
Audience My primary audience would be older teens to 30 year olds my secondary audience
could be slightly younger or older these people can listen and still be fans but I’m just
trying to keep it to a specific demographic so I can better understand how to make
7. Choices
Discounted ideas Reasons for not choosing this
project
Podcast themed similarly to “The Ricky
Gervais Show”
• I would need to many people involved
and I feel as if it would get hectic, plus
I’m not good at writing scripts or
improvising.
• I think I would also reuse jokes from the
original show.
Horror movie concept. • I prefered the blue lava band project
instead.
• Plus I would have to plan out a poster for
a movie that would include people and
I’m not so good with people on
Photoshop.
