The main image of this album cover could be
drake telling his audience that the sky is the limit.
This could also be interpreted as drake saying that
he is in his own league and nobody can catch him
due to him being very high up. The main image
includes a close up of the CN tower in Toronto
which is where he is from. The main image of the
tower shows the city background which relates to
his music.
The urban background also could suggest that
this is a rap album. The image is also very
appealing to the audience as it is quite simplistic
and makes you focus on one are. The audience
will also instantly recognize that it is Drakes
album as he is a well known Toronto figure. The incredible views from the tower could
imply that his album could be so good.
The small image of Drake on the tower could imply
that he doesn’t need to be big to make a loud song
. This may be because he is so famous.

The main image contains minority's in society and lil
Yatchy is showing that he supports them , this
shows that he is a good influence and is suitable to
be a role model to the younger generation. The
main image could also be telling young people to
embrace their differences.
The main image of lil Yatchy includes the
conventions of rap. In this album cover he includes
the expensive glasses as well as the gold jewellery ,
this is frequently shown in rap albums.
The main colour of the album (red) stands out as well
as links with his hair colour which dignifies him.
The audience will instantly recognise this is a
lil yatchy album due to him being sat in the
middle of the image. Also the audience will
also recognise his red hair.
The main image also could be
sending a message saying that he is
a minority due to him having red
hair or possibly being black
Existing Product
The main image
The main image of this album cover links and
relates to the title of the album. This is as the
image is showing him walking away possibly into
recovery. The image also makes you think about
road to recovery as of the long road ahead of him.
The placement of Eminem on the main image make
him stand out which is very important as then people
get to know who he is. The placement also uses the
rule of thirds , this appears to the audience as he is
largely placed towards on the screen
The font is simple as well as bold , the
font also stands out on the album. The
medical sign inside the O makes the title
stand out more as well as relate to the
title as recovery has conations of health
and well being.
The clothes on Eminem is very unusual for a
rapper nowadays however this was 8 years
ago. The clothes also indicate that the
album is older due to him not including
jewelry , drugs as well as wearing top
branded clothes like Gucci.

The tour poster here clearly shows the main image
of the group shows clearly states that it is a rap
album , this is because of the of the dress sense of
the group. Clothes as well as the glasses and the hats
show that they are a rap group as these are all
connotations of rap. The tour posters main image is
in black and white which also indicates that the
album is very old and possibly when there was not
color.
The poster includes all the information which is
needed for the audience to come, venue as well as
time and date.
The name of the group is also presented on the front
of the album so it is clear to the audience on who is
performing. The name is also where similar logos
originated from such as straight outta Compton. The
repeated all around the tour poster.
The font on the tour poster is bold therefore
it stands out to the audience as well as is
simple. The font is also quite unusual for a
tour poster therefore it draws people to look
at it even more.
The main image of the artist is unusual as you
cant see his face therefore the audience may
not know who it is if only looking at the
picture.
The tour poster also gives the audience all
the details and information they need , the
price , venue and when the tickets go on
sale.
The white background also makes the artist
stand out as well as the black font.
The main image on this album cover has many
connotations of rap such as drugs , glasses and fire. the
potions as well as the fumes also show that he could
possibly be high and could just be experimenting with his
music. The main image of the rapper clearly states that it
is his tour.
The font on the poster is clear and stands out. The
font also is wavy and looks like it is moving which
links back to him possibly being high . The small
men at the bottom could be showing his fans all
listing to music whilst he is feeding them his
music.
The tour poster also shows all the tour dates
unlike the previous ones I have looked at.
The bright vibrant colors make the poster stand out
from a distance as well as the white font just below
the title.

In this interview future is wearing gold and diamond jewelry as well as sunglasses
which is very common for rap artists to wear. The interview Zane Lowe also goes
into detail about his music career. The interviewer asks Future about his upcoming
album and his songs. Zane Lowe also talks about what he is focusing on and talks
about his social media.
The layout of the interview is very simple and quite easy to do as it is just 2 people
sat down speaking about his music career.
The interview also includes little clips which indicates where he has been or what is
mentioned in the interview.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oYYVrEFWE8
This interview is very similar to the last one with the interviewer asking similar
questions. The layout of this interview is very chilled and probably more informal than
formal with it being set in her garden possibly. The interviewer also asks the artist Cardi B
about topics regarding her new album and single
The masthead billboard refers to its function which
is to promote and advertise music. The white bold
font has been used to make the masthead stand
out from a distance. The colors in the middle of
the letters are used to add color to the magazine
as well as grab the attention of the audience.
The yellow highlighted sub headings are used to
emphasis's the importance of that topic. The
yellow highlighted are is also used to draw the
reader in so that they automatically look at that
specific area.
The name of the artist Drake is in fairly small font
however due to the artist being the main image on
the screen people can easily tell that this is Drake.
The pug (the sticker) is used to jump out at the
audience , this automatically draws their attention
to the sticker.
The colors the magazine is showing a grey scale.
This could be because of the artist being that well
known he doesn't’t need to be jumping out
wearing bright colors. The color may have also
been used due to drake not often wearing bright
colors ,l this could be reflecting his clothing choice.
The barcode and the date are featured on
every magazine so that the consumer can
purchase the product.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
• All the products include similar features which are all conventions of the rap music genre. Most of these products
include jewellery and accessories. All the album covers I have annotated all include titles that link to the story or
the main image of the album , for example Eminem's album Recovery links to him focusing and trying to make
himself better which is suggested in the main picture. Also all the album covers include bold font that stands out.
All the tour posters I have also annotated all include black and white somewhere on the album cover due to them
colours standing out from a distance. Also all the album covers include a name of the artist as well as a picture of
the artist , this is so that the audience can tell who's concert this is. Also all the tour posters include all the
relevant information such as times prices and where they are going to be. , Which is the conventions of a tour
poster. Finally when annotating the interviews I noticed that they where formed in an informal manner. Also all
the interviews have been about there carers and what they are up to.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• One aspect I will include when doing my album cover is including the conventions in which the artists use when
posing for there main image on the album cover , these are things such as jewellery and other accessories like
glasses and hats. Also when doing my album cover I will include a parental sign on the cover due to these
particular albums aiming at the same audience. Also when doing my tour poster I will do similar things to ones I
have annotated and looked at like using lots of colours as well as using font that will stick out. Finally I will include
all the information so that the audience will know where it is and how much it is. Finally when doing my interview
I will record this in a quiet place either in college or elsewhere in an informal manner similar to the future and
Cardi B one. I will also include similar questions about specifically there music career. Finally I will ensure that the
artist wears similar things to future , due to him being a well known rapper.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
• Observation: This shows that a large proportion of my audience like popular music the same as rap music , however them two genres could be linked
together due to some rap songs being popular. This also shows that the least favourite genres are pop and dance. This is an anomaly due to pop and dance being very
popular most of the time.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my audience most like the rap and popular music genre , therefore I will create
my products relating to that genre. Although these are both different genres they could also fall under each others with rappers such as post Malone as well as Drake
being very popular. Overall I can assume that my audience would like to see a rap or a popular music genre product due to them listing to that genre.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: From these results I can include features that will appeal to both
genres. My product will appeal to these audiences as I am going to create a mythical rapper which will be similar to other popular rappers such as Drake and Post
Malone. My product will also appeal to my audience as I will follow the conventions of both genres and include possible made up songs.
Audience research
• Observation: this graph shows that a large proportion of my audience listen to music everyday. This could mean that there are open to
new music all the time. The graph also shows that 90% of people listen to music everyday comparing to the 10% that don’t.
• What this says about my audience: this says that my audience listen to music everyday. One negative of this is
that this graph doesn’t show what music they listen to everyday however I can assume that it is either pop or rap music.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: from this graph I will create an album cover which will
look professional and hopefully interest the audience. From this quantitative data I can assume that 90% of the audience listen to music everyday
therefore I will include something that will appeal to the audience such as adding possibly more mythical songs to the album.
Audience research
• Observation: this shows that many people of my audience will buy an album however many people are not
sure , this may depend on the price and who it is. The reason why there may not be as many of my audience buying albums
could be because of music streaming services such as; Spotify , Deezer and Sound cloud.
• What this says about my audience: this says that my audience may buy an album , this
is a positive as 90% of my audience might buy an album. This shows that there is a large market for albums.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to
this audience as I will include a very appealing album cover which will look interesting as well as professional. To ensure this
I will include the conventions of a rap album cover. These are things such as bright colours and bold fonts.
Audience research
• Observation: This shows that my audience would not spend over £10 for an album . This is because most albums
nowadays are in the region of 10-15£ and with music sites such as Spotify and Deezer people are using them much more. However
there was a minority that said they would spend over £10 , this could be because they are big music fans.
• What this says about my audience: this says that my audience would rather have a cheaper album
than a more expensive one which is understandable. However with music sites such as Spotify I will have to try appeal to that audience.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience as
I will make a great looking album cover with appealing visuals and designs on this. This will make the audience want to listen to the
album as well as draw there attention to this.
Audience research
• Observation: From this graph I can identify hat 90% of people would go to a concert and 10% would not , this
could be because the 10% of people may not like common music or they may feel crowded.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my audience will go to a concert.
This also says that my audience will potentially buy tickets to go to a concert.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will appeal to
this audience as I will include features such as pricing , time and date on my tour poster which will inform my audience when
the concert is. I will also include bright colours all over the poster so that I will appeal to them.
Audience research
• Observation: This shows that there is a tight gap between the audience because on 10% more people would
pay over £30 or over on a concert ticket. The 40% who's said the would not pay over £30 could be saying this due o them
not being a big fan of concerts or them not having enough money.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my audience will go to concerts over
£30 as that is what it costs to go watch someone popular.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to
my audience I will be able to put a price over £30 for my concert on my tour poster. This should hopefully make the poster
seem popular and professional.
Audience research
• Observation: This shows that my audience notice tour posters more if they include bold fonts , appealing
designs and even bright colours. This also shows that they do appeal to most of the audience.
• What this says about my audience: this says that my audience look at tour posters and
they also notice the things on them such as colours , font and the designs. This also says that my audience will potentially be
interested in tour posters.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to
my audience as I will include bold fonts , appealing visuals and bright colours. My product will also appeal to my audience as
I will also make sure that my poster is in a visible spot.
Audience research
• Observation: This is showing that 58.33% do not listen to music interviews however 41.67% do. This isn't that big of an
issue as people may not have considered watching interviews on the news as well as programmes.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my audience may not watch music interviews , this
could possibly because of they may not have time to watch them , they could also just not be interested in music videos. This also says
that a minority of my audience do actually watch music videos , this could be because they may follow a specific artist.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience as
I will apply the things that the minority of the audience would like to see , for example I will include questions about there music carer
which is typical for a music interview.
Audience research
• Observation: This shows that my audience want to see the typical conventions of a music interviews. This also
shows that my audience want to see a well recognised artist however I do not know any of them so I will have to pretend.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my audience would watch a music
interview if it was including a highly known artist. This also says that my audience will want to hear questions regarding how
they got to where they are today , this could because they aspire to be a musician.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to
my audience as I will include questions such as how they got to where they are today. I will also include a highly know
pretend artist which I made up.
Audience research
• Observation: This shows that my audience would most like to see a rap artist on my music interview. This also
shows that there was quite a big difference between rap and all the other topics. This also shows that people would not like
to see an electric artist possibly as them not being as popular.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my audience want to have a rap artist on
the interview. This could also suggest that my audience likes rappers such as Post Malone and Drake.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will appeal to my
audience by including a rap star. This will be clear in the interview as if I decide to film this I will make sure that the rapper is
wearing what the typical rappers do such as Jewellery and designer clothes.
Interviews
Interview 1
• What would appeal to you on an album cover?
The main thing which will appeal to me on an album cover would be the designs as well as the colours which
have been used. The artist also appeals to me.
• What would encourage you to listen to someone else's album?
What the album looked like will determine wither or not I listen to it.
• What would you put on a rap album cover?
I would put a cartoon character of the rapper on the cover similar to existing ones.
• What colours would you apply to the cover and why?
Personally I would include yellow , blue and red , this is because all them colours stand out.
• What name would best suit a rap album cover and why?
• Fresh would suit this album as it is short as well as catchy and will also have a deeper meaning which will
be the album sounding fresh.
• Would you ever buy a music magazine?
• Yes this is because I want to know the latest things that are happening within the music industry.
Interview 1
• Observation: This shows that the audience want to see an album cover which will include
a cartoon character as well as bright colours such as yellow , red and blue. This interview finally shows that
they have seen previous rap album covers due to their understanding of the genre. This also shows that
people will want to buy a music magazine if I produce one.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my
audience want to see an album cover which will stand out . This also says that my audience
would like to see appealing designs on the cover. This is a must as when analysing the surveys
this was brought up very frequently.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience:
• My product will appeal to this audience as I will include very appealing designs as well as bright colours.
My product will also appeal to the audience by looking like a professional rap album cover which is what
the customer wants. The final way my product will appeal to my target audience is by adding an appealing
cartoon image similar to those including in albums such as lil skies and chance the rapper.
Interview 2
• What would appeal to you in a music interview?
The artist would most appeal to me as if it was a smaller artist I would not be as interested. This could also go
for the interviewer. The artists clothes and the background would also appeal to me.
• What would encourage you to listen to a music interview?
One thing that would encourage me to listen to a music video is the artist and what it was specifically about.
• What would you put on a rap album cover?
I would put a large image of the artist on the cover so people know who the album is of.
• What colours would you apply to the cover and why?
• Brighter colours such as blue and possibly pink as then the album cover will stand out.
• What would you call the Album?
• I would personally call the album The Mix or something similar to that as this to do with music in general ,
also the album will have a mix of songs.
• How much would you charge for a music magazine
• Under £3
Interview 2
• Observation:
• What this says about my audience:
• How will your product appeal to this
audience:
ude an appealing and interesting picture of the artist which will then
tell the audience who the album is based on. This is very necessary
when doing an album cover so that people can identify who is on the
album.
This also shows that a magazine would be a popular product if priced correctly
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
16-20 • I will appeal to this demographic by adding features on my album cover
such as designer brands. This appeals to this type of audience as when
people get older they want more expensive clothes. Another thing I will
include is adding gold and jewellery , this is also similar to the brands
one. Jewellery is also used as lots of people were gold/silver looking
necklaces or earrings. Also when making a tour poster to appeal to this
demographic I will try to include appealing features such as a well known
artist. This is vital on a tour poster as many teenagers all like popular
music and well known artists. Finally in my music video I will include
jewellery on the artist , if I decide to film it. I will also include questions
regarding the artists carer as this is ultimately what the audience want to
know about.
Gender
Male The gender is male as there seems to be more male rappers which have
more male followers. Also the male demographic seem to relate more to
to the conventions of rap , such as , designer brands as well as jewellery.
Psychographic
balanced • This is balanced as the audience I am trying to appeal to are not aiming
to achieve anything whist watching this , they are ultimately just trying
to relax.
Social Status
Middle class • This is middle class and possibly slightly upper class. This is because the
conventions of rap include designer clothing and jewellery as well as nice
cars all of which are very expensive. There is also a middle class
demographic as people can listen to albums for free nowadays and do
not have to buy them.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• For product research I look at album covers that I listen to and which I want to create one similar to them. I also looked at different kind of rappers such as Eminem who is not known for his
use of expensive clothes and accessories , therefore his album covers are different , they normally include a message.
• Strengths
• The strengths of this is that you can look at existing album covers and possibly the features from their covers , this could be things such as colours or the style of font. When looking at tour
posters you also get to look at the fonts and the style in which they are written , you also get to look at the graphics which are a big part of the poster. Finally when looking at music
interviews you get to look at the conventions such as the clothes and the jewellery the are wearing.
• Weaknesses
• One weakness of the product research is that you don’t necessarily have to look at every single thing such as the barcode. Another weakness when doing the album covers is that you might
make your album cover look exactly the same as the existing one which will then be plagiarism. A weakness of the tour posters are that they are all different so it is quite hard to follow one
specific one. Finally a weakness of looking at music interviews is that you cant follow all the artists and what they are wearing and saying.
– Questionnaires
– For the questionnaires I went on survey monkey and created a survey which included 10 questions all about the products I created , then I waited for the responses. After people responded I then
analysed the results and annotated them.
– Strengths
– One strength is that you can see what people honestly think about what you are creating. You also get to see what suggestions and what other people would include , this is a positive as then you can
steal other peoples ideas.
– Weakness
– One weakness is that some peoples ideas may not be that good , they may not appeal to that genre.
– Another weakness is that u cant add any more questions after you have added 10 , this is a weakness as you may change your idea.
– Interviews
– For my interviews I interviewed two people which both carried out five questions. When writing the interviews I changed the questions the second time so then I would get more information about
what they would include and what they would want to see.
– Strength
– One strength is that you can get other people information and opinions which can really help when creating your final product.
– Weaknesses
– One weakness is that you may not have enough time to ask the interviewer as many questions to find out there information and what the will want to see.
– Another weakness is that people may not provide you with that much detail due to it not being their work , this may leave you with possibly 1 or 2 ideas.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
For my interviews I got a very decent response of both people. These responses included opinions on
what they would call the album along with what colours they would use. The responses also included
suggestions into what they would they would want to see on an album cover along with what would
encourage them to look at a music cover. Whilst doing my second my interview I included different
questions and found out what people would want to see in a music interview as well as what people
would want for them listening to a music interview , such as a well known artist as the interview would
not be as interesting if it was of anyone. Overall I feel that I had very positive feedback as I have gained
allot of information into what people want to see.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
– The way I distributed the survey was that I got aa link to my survey after I completed the survey. I
then gave the link to the tutor and the link was then put on blackboard and I waited for people to
respond to it. The Strengths of this is that you can get on with other stages of your FMP whilst
waiting for feedback however a weakness would be that you have ti wait a while for people to
complete the surveys which can delay your FMP.

2. research 2

  • 2. Existing Product The main image of this album cover could be drake telling his audience that the sky is the limit. This could also be interpreted as drake saying that he is in his own league and nobody can catch him due to him being very high up. The main image includes a close up of the CN tower in Toronto which is where he is from. The main image of the tower shows the city background which relates to his music. The urban background also could suggest that this is a rap album. The image is also very appealing to the audience as it is quite simplistic and makes you focus on one are. The audience will also instantly recognize that it is Drakes album as he is a well known Toronto figure. The incredible views from the tower could imply that his album could be so good. The small image of Drake on the tower could imply that he doesn’t need to be big to make a loud song . This may be because he is so famous.
  • 3. Existing Product The main image contains minority's in society and lil Yatchy is showing that he supports them , this shows that he is a good influence and is suitable to be a role model to the younger generation. The main image could also be telling young people to embrace their differences. The main image of lil Yatchy includes the conventions of rap. In this album cover he includes the expensive glasses as well as the gold jewellery , this is frequently shown in rap albums. The main colour of the album (red) stands out as well as links with his hair colour which dignifies him. The audience will instantly recognise this is a lil yatchy album due to him being sat in the middle of the image. Also the audience will also recognise his red hair. The main image also could be sending a message saying that he is a minority due to him having red hair or possibly being black
  • 4. Existing Product The main image The main image of this album cover links and relates to the title of the album. This is as the image is showing him walking away possibly into recovery. The image also makes you think about road to recovery as of the long road ahead of him. The placement of Eminem on the main image make him stand out which is very important as then people get to know who he is. The placement also uses the rule of thirds , this appears to the audience as he is largely placed towards on the screen The font is simple as well as bold , the font also stands out on the album. The medical sign inside the O makes the title stand out more as well as relate to the title as recovery has conations of health and well being. The clothes on Eminem is very unusual for a rapper nowadays however this was 8 years ago. The clothes also indicate that the album is older due to him not including jewelry , drugs as well as wearing top branded clothes like Gucci.
  • 5. Existing Product The tour poster here clearly shows the main image of the group shows clearly states that it is a rap album , this is because of the of the dress sense of the group. Clothes as well as the glasses and the hats show that they are a rap group as these are all connotations of rap. The tour posters main image is in black and white which also indicates that the album is very old and possibly when there was not color. The poster includes all the information which is needed for the audience to come, venue as well as time and date. The name of the group is also presented on the front of the album so it is clear to the audience on who is performing. The name is also where similar logos originated from such as straight outta Compton. The repeated all around the tour poster.
  • 6. The font on the tour poster is bold therefore it stands out to the audience as well as is simple. The font is also quite unusual for a tour poster therefore it draws people to look at it even more. The main image of the artist is unusual as you cant see his face therefore the audience may not know who it is if only looking at the picture. The tour poster also gives the audience all the details and information they need , the price , venue and when the tickets go on sale. The white background also makes the artist stand out as well as the black font.
  • 7. The main image on this album cover has many connotations of rap such as drugs , glasses and fire. the potions as well as the fumes also show that he could possibly be high and could just be experimenting with his music. The main image of the rapper clearly states that it is his tour. The font on the poster is clear and stands out. The font also is wavy and looks like it is moving which links back to him possibly being high . The small men at the bottom could be showing his fans all listing to music whilst he is feeding them his music. The tour poster also shows all the tour dates unlike the previous ones I have looked at. The bright vibrant colors make the poster stand out from a distance as well as the white font just below the title.
  • 8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qr3_Io- q94 In this interview future is wearing gold and diamond jewelry as well as sunglasses which is very common for rap artists to wear. The interview Zane Lowe also goes into detail about his music career. The interviewer asks Future about his upcoming album and his songs. Zane Lowe also talks about what he is focusing on and talks about his social media. The layout of the interview is very simple and quite easy to do as it is just 2 people sat down speaking about his music career. The interview also includes little clips which indicates where he has been or what is mentioned in the interview.
  • 9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oYYVrEFWE8 This interview is very similar to the last one with the interviewer asking similar questions. The layout of this interview is very chilled and probably more informal than formal with it being set in her garden possibly. The interviewer also asks the artist Cardi B about topics regarding her new album and single
  • 10. The masthead billboard refers to its function which is to promote and advertise music. The white bold font has been used to make the masthead stand out from a distance. The colors in the middle of the letters are used to add color to the magazine as well as grab the attention of the audience. The yellow highlighted sub headings are used to emphasis's the importance of that topic. The yellow highlighted are is also used to draw the reader in so that they automatically look at that specific area. The name of the artist Drake is in fairly small font however due to the artist being the main image on the screen people can easily tell that this is Drake. The pug (the sticker) is used to jump out at the audience , this automatically draws their attention to the sticker. The colors the magazine is showing a grey scale. This could be because of the artist being that well known he doesn't’t need to be jumping out wearing bright colors. The color may have also been used due to drake not often wearing bright colors ,l this could be reflecting his clothing choice. The barcode and the date are featured on every magazine so that the consumer can purchase the product.
  • 11. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? • All the products include similar features which are all conventions of the rap music genre. Most of these products include jewellery and accessories. All the album covers I have annotated all include titles that link to the story or the main image of the album , for example Eminem's album Recovery links to him focusing and trying to make himself better which is suggested in the main picture. Also all the album covers include bold font that stands out. All the tour posters I have also annotated all include black and white somewhere on the album cover due to them colours standing out from a distance. Also all the album covers include a name of the artist as well as a picture of the artist , this is so that the audience can tell who's concert this is. Also all the tour posters include all the relevant information such as times prices and where they are going to be. , Which is the conventions of a tour poster. Finally when annotating the interviews I noticed that they where formed in an informal manner. Also all the interviews have been about there carers and what they are up to. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? • One aspect I will include when doing my album cover is including the conventions in which the artists use when posing for there main image on the album cover , these are things such as jewellery and other accessories like glasses and hats. Also when doing my album cover I will include a parental sign on the cover due to these particular albums aiming at the same audience. Also when doing my tour poster I will do similar things to ones I have annotated and looked at like using lots of colours as well as using font that will stick out. Finally I will include all the information so that the audience will know where it is and how much it is. Finally when doing my interview I will record this in a quiet place either in college or elsewhere in an informal manner similar to the future and Cardi B one. I will also include similar questions about specifically there music career. Finally I will ensure that the artist wears similar things to future , due to him being a well known rapper.
  • 13. Audience research • Observation: This shows that a large proportion of my audience like popular music the same as rap music , however them two genres could be linked together due to some rap songs being popular. This also shows that the least favourite genres are pop and dance. This is an anomaly due to pop and dance being very popular most of the time. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience most like the rap and popular music genre , therefore I will create my products relating to that genre. Although these are both different genres they could also fall under each others with rappers such as post Malone as well as Drake being very popular. Overall I can assume that my audience would like to see a rap or a popular music genre product due to them listing to that genre. • How will your product appeal to this audience: From these results I can include features that will appeal to both genres. My product will appeal to these audiences as I am going to create a mythical rapper which will be similar to other popular rappers such as Drake and Post Malone. My product will also appeal to my audience as I will follow the conventions of both genres and include possible made up songs.
  • 14. Audience research • Observation: this graph shows that a large proportion of my audience listen to music everyday. This could mean that there are open to new music all the time. The graph also shows that 90% of people listen to music everyday comparing to the 10% that don’t. • What this says about my audience: this says that my audience listen to music everyday. One negative of this is that this graph doesn’t show what music they listen to everyday however I can assume that it is either pop or rap music. • How will your product appeal to this audience: from this graph I will create an album cover which will look professional and hopefully interest the audience. From this quantitative data I can assume that 90% of the audience listen to music everyday therefore I will include something that will appeal to the audience such as adding possibly more mythical songs to the album.
  • 15. Audience research • Observation: this shows that many people of my audience will buy an album however many people are not sure , this may depend on the price and who it is. The reason why there may not be as many of my audience buying albums could be because of music streaming services such as; Spotify , Deezer and Sound cloud. • What this says about my audience: this says that my audience may buy an album , this is a positive as 90% of my audience might buy an album. This shows that there is a large market for albums. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to this audience as I will include a very appealing album cover which will look interesting as well as professional. To ensure this I will include the conventions of a rap album cover. These are things such as bright colours and bold fonts.
  • 16. Audience research • Observation: This shows that my audience would not spend over £10 for an album . This is because most albums nowadays are in the region of 10-15£ and with music sites such as Spotify and Deezer people are using them much more. However there was a minority that said they would spend over £10 , this could be because they are big music fans. • What this says about my audience: this says that my audience would rather have a cheaper album than a more expensive one which is understandable. However with music sites such as Spotify I will have to try appeal to that audience. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience as I will make a great looking album cover with appealing visuals and designs on this. This will make the audience want to listen to the album as well as draw there attention to this.
  • 17. Audience research • Observation: From this graph I can identify hat 90% of people would go to a concert and 10% would not , this could be because the 10% of people may not like common music or they may feel crowded. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience will go to a concert. This also says that my audience will potentially buy tickets to go to a concert. • How will your product appeal to this audience: my product will appeal to this audience as I will include features such as pricing , time and date on my tour poster which will inform my audience when the concert is. I will also include bright colours all over the poster so that I will appeal to them.
  • 18. Audience research • Observation: This shows that there is a tight gap between the audience because on 10% more people would pay over £30 or over on a concert ticket. The 40% who's said the would not pay over £30 could be saying this due o them not being a big fan of concerts or them not having enough money. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience will go to concerts over £30 as that is what it costs to go watch someone popular. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience I will be able to put a price over £30 for my concert on my tour poster. This should hopefully make the poster seem popular and professional.
  • 19. Audience research • Observation: This shows that my audience notice tour posters more if they include bold fonts , appealing designs and even bright colours. This also shows that they do appeal to most of the audience. • What this says about my audience: this says that my audience look at tour posters and they also notice the things on them such as colours , font and the designs. This also says that my audience will potentially be interested in tour posters. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience as I will include bold fonts , appealing visuals and bright colours. My product will also appeal to my audience as I will also make sure that my poster is in a visible spot.
  • 20. Audience research • Observation: This is showing that 58.33% do not listen to music interviews however 41.67% do. This isn't that big of an issue as people may not have considered watching interviews on the news as well as programmes. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience may not watch music interviews , this could possibly because of they may not have time to watch them , they could also just not be interested in music videos. This also says that a minority of my audience do actually watch music videos , this could be because they may follow a specific artist. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience as I will apply the things that the minority of the audience would like to see , for example I will include questions about there music carer which is typical for a music interview.
  • 21. Audience research • Observation: This shows that my audience want to see the typical conventions of a music interviews. This also shows that my audience want to see a well recognised artist however I do not know any of them so I will have to pretend. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience would watch a music interview if it was including a highly known artist. This also says that my audience will want to hear questions regarding how they got to where they are today , this could because they aspire to be a musician. • How will your product appeal to this audience: My product will appeal to my audience as I will include questions such as how they got to where they are today. I will also include a highly know pretend artist which I made up.
  • 22. Audience research • Observation: This shows that my audience would most like to see a rap artist on my music interview. This also shows that there was quite a big difference between rap and all the other topics. This also shows that people would not like to see an electric artist possibly as them not being as popular. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience want to have a rap artist on the interview. This could also suggest that my audience likes rappers such as Post Malone and Drake. • How will your product appeal to this audience: I will appeal to my audience by including a rap star. This will be clear in the interview as if I decide to film this I will make sure that the rapper is wearing what the typical rappers do such as Jewellery and designer clothes.
  • 24. Interview 1 • What would appeal to you on an album cover? The main thing which will appeal to me on an album cover would be the designs as well as the colours which have been used. • Fresh would suit this album as it is short as well as catchy and will also have a deeper meaning which will be the album sounding fresh. • Would you ever buy a music magazine? • Yes this is because I want to know the latest things that are happening within the music industry.
  • 25. Interview 1 • Observation: This shows that the audience want to see an album cover which will include a cartoon character as well as bright colours such as yellow , red and blue. This interview finally shows that they have seen previous rap album covers due to their understanding of the genre. This also shows that people will want to buy a music magazine if I produce one. • What this says about my audience: This says that my audience want to see an album cover which will stand out . This also says that my audience would like to see appealing designs on the cover. This is a must as when analysing the surveys this was brought up very frequently. • How will your product appeal to this audience: • My product will appeal to this audience as I will include very appealing designs as well as bright colours. My product will also appeal to the audience by looking like a professional rap album cover which is what the customer wants. The final way my product will appeal to my target audience is by adding an appealing cartoon image similar to those including in albums such as lil skies and chance the rapper.
  • 26. Interview 2 • What would appeal to you in a music interview? The artist would most appeal to me as if it was a smaller artist I would not be as interested. This could also go for the interviewer. • I would personally call the album The Mix or something similar to that as this to do with music in general , also the album will have a mix of songs. • How much would you charge for a music magazine • Under £3
  • 27. Interview 2 • Observation: • What this says about my audience: • How will your product appeal to this audience: ude an appealing and interesting picture of the artist which will then tell the audience who the album is based on. This is very necessary when doing an album cover so that people can identify who is on the album. This also shows that a magazine would be a popular product if priced correctly
  • 28. Audience Profile Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range 16-20 • I will appeal to this demographic by adding features on my album cover such as designer brands. This appeals to this type of audience as when people get older they want more expensive clothes. Another thing I will include is adding gold and jewellery , this is also similar to the brands one. Jewellery is also used as lots of people were gold/silver looking necklaces or earrings. Also when making a tour poster to appeal to this demographic I will try to include appealing features such as a well known artist. This is vital on a tour poster as many teenagers all like popular music and well known artists. Finally in my music video I will include jewellery on the artist , if I decide to film it. I will also include questions regarding the artists carer as this is ultimately what the audience want to know about. Gender Male The gender is male as there seems to be more male rappers which have more male followers. Also the male demographic seem to relate more to to the conventions of rap , such as , designer brands as well as jewellery. Psychographic balanced • This is balanced as the audience I am trying to appeal to are not aiming to achieve anything whist watching this , they are ultimately just trying to relax. Social Status Middle class • This is middle class and possibly slightly upper class. This is because the conventions of rap include designer clothing and jewellery as well as nice cars all of which are very expensive. There is also a middle class demographic as people can listen to albums for free nowadays and do not have to buy them.
  • 30. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research • For product research I look at album covers that I listen to and which I want to create one similar to them. I also looked at different kind of rappers such as Eminem who is not known for his use of expensive clothes and accessories , therefore his album covers are different , they normally include a message. • Strengths • The strengths of this is that you can look at existing album covers and possibly the features from their covers , this could be things such as colours or the style of font. When looking at tour posters you also get to look at the fonts and the style in which they are written , you also get to look at the graphics which are a big part of the poster. Finally when looking at music interviews you get to look at the conventions such as the clothes and the jewellery the are wearing. • Weaknesses • One weakness of the product research is that you don’t necessarily have to look at every single thing such as the barcode. Another weakness when doing the album covers is that you might make your album cover look exactly the same as the existing one which will then be plagiarism. A weakness of the tour posters are that they are all different so it is quite hard to follow one specific one. Finally a weakness of looking at music interviews is that you cant follow all the artists and what they are wearing and saying. – Questionnaires – For the questionnaires I went on survey monkey and created a survey which included 10 questions all about the products I created , then I waited for the responses. After people responded I then analysed the results and annotated them. – Strengths – One strength is that you can see what people honestly think about what you are creating. You also get to see what suggestions and what other people would include , this is a positive as then you can steal other peoples ideas. – Weakness – One weakness is that some peoples ideas may not be that good , they may not appeal to that genre. – Another weakness is that u cant add any more questions after you have added 10 , this is a weakness as you may change your idea. – Interviews – For my interviews I interviewed two people which both carried out five questions. When writing the interviews I changed the questions the second time so then I would get more information about what they would include and what they would want to see. – Strength – One strength is that you can get other people information and opinions which can really help when creating your final product. – Weaknesses – One weakness is that you may not have enough time to ask the interviewer as many questions to find out there information and what the will want to see. – Another weakness is that people may not provide you with that much detail due to it not being their work , this may leave you with possibly 1 or 2 ideas.
  • 31. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? For my interviews I got a very decent response of both people. These responses included opinions on what they would call the album along with what colours they would use. The responses also included suggestions into what they would they would want to see on an album cover along with what would encourage them to look at a music cover. Whilst doing my second my interview I included different questions and found out what people would want to see in a music interview as well as what people would want for them listening to a music interview , such as a well known artist as the interview would not be as interesting if it was of anyone. Overall I feel that I had very positive feedback as I have gained allot of information into what people want to see. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – The way I distributed the survey was that I got aa link to my survey after I completed the survey. I then gave the link to the tutor and the link was then put on blackboard and I waited for people to respond to it. The Strengths of this is that you can get on with other stages of your FMP whilst waiting for feedback however a weakness would be that you have ti wait a while for people to complete the surveys which can delay your FMP.
