In this presentation I have described how I produced my Poster using key skills and techniques I have learned through research. I also explain how I was creative and what my influences were

2. Final product
The house style has remained the same
throughout all the media texts we were
asked to produce.
The use of the cartoon depiction of the
artist is also used on the digipack which
illustrates the link to house style.
The overall layout of the poster was
successful however some features such as
a the font were changed due to software
issues and impacted the mood and
representation of what we're trying to
canvey as the font we used seemed more
formal than we had desired.
3. Development and conventions
Our poster was not inspired from one piece of artwork, style or even artistic
angle, but an assortment. This was essential as in order to come up with an
original idea we had to find what was already being done but also ensure that
we understood what was necessary to include to ensure that the poster still
remained a could be identified as a poster. Our approach was to use a
minimalist cartoon to create a sense of abstraction alluding to the free
spirited nature of how indie music is crafted and what it is inspired by.The
conventions mostly applied to the traditional content and partial layout as
seen through the clear vertical layout and straplines. A small number of
colours were selected to ensure the house style was maintained but also
provide a genre specific look and maintain a focus. We have challenged
conventions through not including a photo of our artist however, our intention
for this was to continue the mysterious and abstract star image of our artist.
4. Research
When designing the poster a small amount of research was
conducted to decide what type of cartoon we should use. A
more traditional outlined comic style cartoon (left) or a
more artistic original impression (right). We discovered the
cartoon on the right to be the most popular amongst our
target audience and so decided to use this.
5. Editing
The basis for our poster was created using photoshop. After using
and developing my skill range in photoshop since AS I was able to
produce much more creative images and artwork. I used an image of a
wall which is used when showing the artist in our music video so,
this artist is only ever seen in front of this wall so the wall is
symbolic of the artist. I then used the magnetic lasso tool to
outline and produce my cartoon using a stencil of the artist face,
the colour picker was then used to add realistic skin tones to the
cartoon from photographic imagery. As well as this, Indesign was
used to add input the text from the production stage,
however, the fonts and scale changes to suit the layout were
generated in post-production.
6. Summary
In conclusion our poster follows some of the common
conventions when adding text and laying out the key features
of a poster however, the originality and creativity of the
artwork shines through and stands out against what is
supposedly a conventional poster, setting ours ajar from
other posters representing indie artists.
