2. The genre.
The genre of my magazine will be rock, this is why I am pitching to you as I know you are
publisher of one of the most famous rock magazines “kerrang”. The reason I have
chosen the genre is because I believe it relates to what I love ,rock. It also has one of
the biggest audience in the music business and a new addition to the genre will surely
be a hit.
An example of what a main
article page would look like in
my magazine.
3. Mode of address
I want the magazine to be intimidating but at the same time sophisticated, and so I will be
using a loud font and close images to create intimidating and then a clean layout with
a bold text to create the sophisticated. I want the audience to be drawn to the
magazine right from the shelve so that’s why I am using these features.
This is what I would like my
magazine to look like when it is
on the shelf.
4. House style
For the majority of my magazine I will use blacks and reds, this is a very conventional
colour for rock and it will really make the magazine stand out. The mast head will also
be in red and black to make it a very noticeable masthead.
An example of a
masthead style that
would be used.
5. Target audience
My target audience is teenagers and young adults ranging from 15-25, I think this is the
most popular age for this genre, as my research has shown the most popular age for
my magazine was 15-17. There was quite a difference between male and female
popularity and it seems that there was a stronger presence of the female gender,
however to broaden my market, i will keep the gender orientation equal and be
gender agnostic.
6. Content
The content of my magazine will be very similar to the current kerrang magazine,
however mine will be more interview based, finding out the personal details of the
artists. I suppose the content is swaying towards tabloid style gossip. I will also use
chart information and give current updates on where the latest rock songs are in the
charts. I am hoping that the style of writing will be relaxed so that the reader is
comfortable when reading. The images will be solely of artists and I am planning to do
a section called “a blast from the past “ where I talk about the greats of rock and some
of the fallen icons.
