1. Proposal
I will make a music magazine named ‘EDMission’ based around electronic dance music and the people who listen to it. Inside will be
the latest releases of popular artists and a review of each song. There will also be pictures relating to the artists and a picture of a
person whose comments will also be included in the magazine. The theme will be slightly scruffy and deranged as this informal
magazine is meant to look as exciting as possible. The colour scheme will be red, black and white because those three colors work
well together at standing out.
The front cover will have promotions such as free posters, artist names, a large portrait as the background, a rhetorical question and
a quote to get attention.
The audience will be for anyone above the age of 16 and this is because the content of the magazine might not be appropriate or
appealing to anyone younger than this. For no particular reason, I have decided to give this particular magazine the title “Produce and
lose” and have an article about the lack of success of a successful artist. My primary audience will be people with an interest in
electronic music, which are typically under 25.
On the double page spread, there will be an interview, a couple of reviews, an article, more pictures and a second short article all
composed in an unorganized manner with a scruffy theme.
Text boxes will have a black fill with sketchy edges and a lot of them will be at a slight random angle while the text will be white and
the background will be black, white and red. I want to use this colour scheme because it is not very popular but it looks nice in music
magazines and using a lot of darkness makes the text more flashy and appealing to read.
While the layout is meant to look busy, it is also minimal but the patterns of the theme will fill the space and make the pages more
crowded. The style of images I will use will be mainly photographs of people with dark backgrounds. The front cover, on the other
hand, will have a white background to contrast with the black text boxes I will be using.
In terms of font, most of the text will be a legible but non-standard font in white, which would not look out of place on a rock
magazine. The Magazine name will be in red and so will titles, which will also be bold to stand out from the rest of the text and make it
easy to tell what you are reading about.
This font is ‘Chalkduster’ and it is the font I plan to use in my magazine.
I chose red, white and black as the colour scheme because my music magazine will focus on less than peaceful concerts therefore
the black illustrates the typical darkness, red illustrates blood from mosh pits and I’m picking white to brighten it up slightly.
